Chapter 335: More Allies
Caddel could still recall how the Queen had dragged Alain by his arm into the secret chamber. He had been skeptical on whether it would be wise to reveal himself or not, refusing to act based on just his nudging emotions, but before he could decide on what motion would work best, the little boy had bit Carla by her wrist, eliciting a sharp cry from her throat.
"Argh!! Why you little–!!"
The children in the cage had shrunk back due to her painful cry, and that gave Alain’s friends the opportunity they needed to get out of their cage before she noticed.
However, Caddel was montarily awestruck to see Carla bleeding from the bite, only for her to release the boy harshly. The little boy’s eyes had switched from brown to the shade of blood, there was nothing humane about it, but what grabbed his curiosity was the blankness in his gaze.
Carla was already enraged by the boy’s audacity to bite her with his sharp canine, but there was not a glimr of fear in his crimson eyes.
"I will kill you!!" She nearly scread in a fit of rage, but before she could put her vile intention into action, sothing swift had moved past her in a blur, and when she blinked, the little boy was gone. Taken aback by who might have taken him with such unprecedented precision, she turned around in alarm, but what she never saw coming was her hands which were imdiately shackled to one of the bigger iron bars behind her, and her pupils dilated when a man who shared the sa features with the little boy was looming in front of her.
"You..." her pupils constricted when she noticed the rage in his eyes. Slowly, her attention shifted to the little boy who was standing at a safer distance, his eyes back to the normal Amber-brown shade that everyone was familiar with– except, she knew what she saw, and that boy had turned into a vampire and bit her!
Was it the effects from the blood moon?
Witnessing her turmoil, Caddel imdiately thought of his sister and stepped out of his hiding spot to locate her, but the aura in the air had been charged by the vampire whose hand was around Carla’s neck. He had the intention of choking her till she could no longer breathe, but to his unfortunate, bad-timing, his senses were still conscious of the little children watching, and that was the only thing that saved the witch who dared to threaten his son with death.
"Release
this instant! Guards!!" Carla cried out for her royal guards, but due to Marius’s change in the fortress, half of her guards had been crushed during the tamorphosis. They were able to get all the children out of the cage, leaving Carla behind, but was she still there when the fortress exploded?
That he could not predict.
Snapping his mindset back to reality, his eyes were now on Ivan who had lit a fire on a dry wooden stick. It burned brightly, forcing everyone to take a cautious step back, and then he turned to one of the grotesque guards.
"Hold him." Ca his command, and two guards imdiately stepped forward to hold the grotesque guard.
"What is this?? Let go of !! What are you doing?? What are you...!!" Ivan opened his armored helt and pushed in the burning stick, only to hear the anguished cry of the guard. The sound of his cry terrified the rest, and one could visibly see the smoke coming out the holes ant for breathing. The helt began to lt, and due to the fact he was still held, there was absolutely nothing the guard could do to take it off, and with that, his head imdiately caught fire.
Caddel’s eyes narrowed, feeling at loss at what he was witnessing. He looked at Ivan who lit another stick and was heading towards the second guard, yet his intentions behind why he was doing this remained odd to everyone. The look on his face was neutral, he neither seed amused or angry, and that bothered Caddel.
"Stop." The grotesque guard panicked when he saw that he was the next to get burnt in the face, but he was held down by Ivan’s guards.
"The Queen never gave us a taste of her potion, we’re not immune to fire!" He blurted out, whilst making Ivan pause in his elimination. "She selected a few people she could try it on, she was going to et with them after completing the ritual with that boy but... she told us we’ll get our share once she returns! This conversation happened before the explosion! Wait!! I promise this is what I know!! Have r–"
And Ivan shoved the burning stick into its armor helt, closing it up.
"A few people?" Ivan finally contemplated on the guard’s words after killing him, his expression thoughtful. "So she has other allies aside from Marius. In that case, I hope she survives the explosion."
"Huh? May I ask why?" Caddel arched a confusing eyebrow.
"She can’t die if she’s immune." Ivan uttered, "If she’s still out there, she’ll certainly co back for Marius, he is her plug to the top at the end of the day."
"I understand your point but I’m still confused on why you want her alive." Caddel pointed out his concern, and Ivan turned to look at him.
"Death is a simple punishnt." Quipped Ivan, "she doesn’t deserve a simple punishnt, so I need her alive. Tell the guards to keep searching, and see if they can find her body."
"Your Majesty," Herbert stepped into the tent, and he lowered his head in a bow. "Her Highness wishes to see you."
"She’s awake?" The empty look in his eyes vanished at the ntion of his wife, and he quickly pointed at the rest of Carla’s guards. "Take it from here, the both of you." His words were directed at Caddel and Herbert who nodded in unison. Already aware of what they had to do, they stepped aside and made way for Ivan to exit the tent.
Samantha waited outside due to Herbert’s innocent request, and her gaze lingered on the working soldiers only to feel soone drape a warm coat on her shoulder. Already familiar with the scent emanating from the coat, she turned around with a smile and t his softened gaze.
"Aren’t you susceptible to cold?"
"I wear one just in case you don’t." Answered Ivan. "Did you sleep well?"
She nodded, "can we go for a walk, there’s sothing I want to share with you...but if you’re busy I can–"
"I’m sure what you have to say to
is more important, shall we?" Extending his hand forward, Samantha placed her hand in his. He took her away from the tent, leading her to the shore where they could take a walk together.
The early light of dawn painted the horizon as they strolled along the quiet shore, hand-in-hand. The waves whispered a soothing lody, but an unspoken tension lingered between them. Samantha halted, her eyes fixed on the rising sun, and she turned to the quiet vampire with a determined gaze.
"Ivan."
"Hmm?"
"I’ve been thinking, and I want you to promise
sothing." She hesitated on her next word, her voice laden with what he predicted to be fear. He could sense she was building up the strength to speak when she took a courageous breath.
"If... If I lose control of myself in the future, don’t hesitate to kill . I want you to promise
that no matter what happens, innocent lives won’t be hard because of , even if it ans sacrificing my life for it. Will you do that for ?"
