Emily paused. Her expression turned that of a confusion at that mont. She stared at Arwen, trying to see any hint of envy or displeasure in her gaze, but no matter how she looked, she couldn't find even a hint of it.

Could it be that Arwen was not at all bothered?

The thought didn't settle well with Emily. She frowned, shaking it away. The title of a wealthy heiress is well sought. There was no way Arwen would really stay nonchalant knowing what once belonged to her was no longer hers.

"What do you an, Arwen?" she asked, crossing her arms in arrogance.

Arwen stared at her and smile. "What else could I an, Emily?" she asked keeping smile intact. "I congratulated you for finally getting what you have always wished for. I am really happy for you."

"You think I will believe it?" Emily scoffed, already agitated.

But still Arwen never faltered. She simply shrugged and said, "Whether you will believe it or not —that's up to you. But I will present you the token of my congratulation."

Before Emily could understand what that ant, Arwen turned to attendant and instructed, "Put her today's bill on my tab today."

The attendant nodded with a polite smile and Arwen turned back to look at Emily. "Your celebrations today are on . So, don't hesitate. Go ahead." She didn't an to do this charity but her ntal peace was worth it, so she didn't mind.

With that, she turned and left.

Behind her, Emily mood turned grumpy. She watched Arwen silhouette disappearing at a distance and stomped her feet. "Who wants you to pay? You think I don't have the money? Hmph!"

"Ma'am, your bill."

Just then another attendant ca holding the bill folder in her hand.

Emily heard her and glanced at her briefly. Her gaze shifted briefly at the bill folder in her hand and then handed her the card she brought with herself. "Settle it with this," she ordered, and the attendant took the card to swipe it.

But just next second, a beep od decline was heard making both of them frown.

"Ma'am, this card is not yet active, it seems," the attendant said, extending back the card.

Emily frowned. "Not yet active?" she echoed. It was the card sent by Catrin to her. How could it still not be active?

She gritted, feeling the humiliation burn her skin.

"I have another card," she said and then tried to look for another in her bag, only to realize she wasn't carrying any other spare card. She had wanted to flaunt herself in front of her friend, but —

"What's wrong, Ma'am?" the attendant inquired when she saw Emily's brows tightly drawn together. She didn't want to doubt her, but the amount on the bill was too large to be at ease.

Emily glared. "Don't look at like that. I am the heiress of Quinn family. Do you think I can't afford a al in your restaurant?"

"Ma'am, I didn't an that," the attendant flinched, not daring to offend soone she cannot afford. "I was asking to see if there was sothing I could help you with."

Although she put it like that, Emily had seen the evident doubt flicker in her gaze. "No need, I can manage." With that she pulled her phone to make the call and after a few rings, the call was answered. "Mom."

"Emily, what's wrong? Why are you calling . I am out with my kitty group," Mrs. Brown said, sounding irritated.

And hearing that irritation in her voice only made Emily's infuriation flare. "Mom, if I am calling you, it would be important, right?"

"Fine, tell what is it? I can't stay forever on call. I need to get back to them and gloat a little more. They are —"

"That's enough, Mom. I don't need to know what you are going to do. Just send soone with the card. I left it back at ho and I need to pay."

"Your card?" Mrs. Brown asked as if she couldn't understand. "Didn't you bring one with yourself? Pay with that, don't save."

"I can't pay with that, Mom," She gritted, feeling her patience thinning. "That card is yet not active. So, send my card, so that I can pay and leave this place."

"But sweetheart, your cards don't have money. Even if I send soone with it, you won't be able to pay."

Emily frowned. Her card has no balance. How can that be possible? She had so savings. She was sure she would be able to pay with it.

"Mom, what do you an? I clearly have a million in my card. Aunt Catrin has given it to so that I can practice well to be the heiress.

Lady Brown chuckled lightly through the line before she said, "That … dear, I used it to order a dress that I wanted for a while now. I would be wearing it to the event of your introduction. I know you won't mind."

"But Mom—"

"Oh, don't be dumb, sweetheart," Mrs. Brown laughed but it didn't hold a humor. She just ant to dismiss the thing. "Instead of calling , you should now grow the habit of calling your adoptive mothing. She would be able to pay your bills. Go and call her, and I am sure she would help."

Before Emily could say that she can't do that, her mother hung up the call, leaving her to hear the rude beep of disconnection.

This …

How could she call Catrin? She had already upsetted her enough. She could dare to upset her more.

But then, if not her then who else she could seek help from?

Just as she was raking her brains, she saw the attendant who had previously left with Arwen returning. She didn't want to but, she had no other choice.

Hence, she said, "I don't need to pay the bill today."

The attendant that was assisting her looked up at her confused. "What do you an, ma'am."

Emily pointed her hand to the attendant who was drawing close. "You can ask her. My bill has to be put on soone else's tab."

The attendant looked at her peer and she nodded. "Another guest offered to pay this lady's bill. You can let her go."

"But it's the bill of thousands?"

"It's fine. The lady seed kind and willing to do that charity." The previous attendant said, looking Emily with gentle polite smile. "Don't mind my words, ma'am. That's what the other guest nad it as. I can't bear to offend you."

Emily gritted. But she had nothing to defend herself with. Stomping her feet, she just left, not noticing there was soone watching her all the while with disdain clear in her eyes.
