15: Chapter 15: Nightmare Erge from the Flas 15: Chapter 15: Nightmare Erge from the Flas In the world of swords and magic, the tale goes that, a knight valiantly saves the princess, who was kidnapped by an evil dragon.
The knight then brings the princess back to the kingdom, and they live happily ever after.
Despite being a fabricated tale, it is not without basis in reality, only that the evil dragon is replaced by a powerful kingdom, the knight by a band of rcenaries, and the princess by power and wealth.
mbers of the royal family can lead a carefree and luxurious life if their kingdom is strong.
But if their kingdom is weak and poor, they beco victims in political struggles.
Princes are taken as hostages to be dispatched to powerful sovereign realms, becoming attendants to the princes there.
Princesses, if lucky, may spend a peaceful childhood within the palace.
If unlucky, they can be sent away at a very young age.
In a world where each city-state is a country relevant only to the extent of its ard might, the royal families of weak nations may lead lives worse than ordinary rchants.
Under such circumstances, an entity with an extraordinary existence, the Glorious Noble, arose in the interstice between the powerful empire and the independent kingdoms.
These nobles usually held titles above the rank of an earl.
They controlled impressive armies and owned vast land, privileges that few nobles under typical Imperial rule could possess.
Though they venerated the emperor, their ranking was on par with his, but they weren’t monarchs of the various minor independent cities either.
A millennium of perpetuity enabled these families to accumulate remarkable wealth and vast networks of influence.
A scholar once boldly conjectured that if these Glorious Nobles joined forces in a war, the continent would not be as fragnted as it is today.
However, the question of who among them would ascend the Imperial throne after the war would never be resolved, so this horrifying war remains an audacious speculation on paper, never seeming likely to co true.
Not only their wealth and power but also their proud noble lineage dating back hundreds of generations sets the Glorious Nobles above others.
To them, any lineage fewer than fifty generations is vulgar nouveau riche, and kings who may lose their kingdoms within a few generations are the epito of such vulgarity.
Their pure lineage was far nobler than those of the dirty emperors, who, seeking peace and tranquility, surrendered their daughters to filthy rcenaries.
In history, more than once had such events happened where a kingdom fell overnight due to the joint rebellion of various Glorious Nobles, its throne easily usurped by the traitors.
Or else, a sovereign, trying to appease these powerful nobles, squandered vast lands, severely damaging the interests of those who fought with him for the kingdom, causing his erstwhile companions to backstab him and the entire empire to plunge into chaos and unrest.
Regardless of the outco, it was all profit and no loss for the Glorious Nobles.
From beginning to end, they devoted themselves to expending their family influences, unswayed by any changes in dynastic rule.
Possessing military might, financial power, and a thousand years of glory, they remained unaffected.
In the entire continental milieu, the ruling body barring the Supre Magic Council’s terrifying power was the rcenary Guild ubiquitous throughout, created jointly by the Glorious Nobles as a profitable venture.
Like complexly intertwined trees, they extended their influence into every corner of the continent.
Anywhere treasure and items of value could possibly be found, the silhouette of rcenaries would be spotted, and behind these rcenaries stood a powerful noble.
They used their noble lineage as infinite glory, refusing rcenary duties deed to be unrefined.
But their greed for wealth ultimately made them incapable of refusing the gluttonous feast laid right before them.
Therefore, they would spend a fortune tempting and hiring powerful rcenary guilds to perform tasks they deed beneath them, tasks which might dirty their hands.
Of course, Violet had no way of knowing which Glorious Noble was backing the operation of the Bronze Shield this ti.
However, she had absolute dominating ans to handle them forcefully despite knowing who was behind the manipulation.
Glorious Nobles, so be it!
The skeleton monster ‘cleaned’ the entire rcenary camp at a speed that amazed Violet.
After all, they were just ordinary people.
Even the elite fighters with a certain level of strength couldn’t resist a skeleton monster equipped with an artifact.
When the camp quieted down, Carl, full of doubts, parted the bushes and carefully peered out.
However, the sight before his eyes horrified him.
Bodies were strewn everywhere within the disorderly camp.
A kicked-down bonfire had ignited a nearby tent.
The burning tent rapidly spread the flas to the other tents around.
Soon, thick smoke erged from the encampnt within the forest.
The bodies together with the encampnt were reduced to ashes amidst the blazing fla.
The fresh leaves and shrubs turned into white smoke under the heat of the flas, quickly rendering the area inhospitable.
Violet couldn’t help but frown.
Though she did want to kick the Bronze Shield’s butt, on seeing the scenery before her, she couldn’t help but sigh.
These guys…
were too weak.
It was rely a Sixth Tier Skeleton monster.
If they couldn’t defeat it, why didn’t they run instead?
Not only did they sacrifice their lives in vain, but look at the soaring flas!
If the forest wasn’t this damp and hot, the blazing fire would be enough to turn the entire forest into ashes.
Moreover, the plants growing here have for long been immune to magic, making them more sturdy and fire-resistant.
So overall, except for the big fire that was sowhat beyond Violet’s expectation, anything else was still under control.
The intensifying heat from the flas quickly made the vicinity unbearable for anyone to stay.
And the skeleton monster coming out of the smoke and flas didn’t seem to be greatly injured.
The artifact armor it was wearing was indeed insurmountable, unless the opponent was so unprecedentedly genius monster.
And amidst the flas, the burning fire had covered its body in a layer of grey dust.
Still, the armor remained bright, and the Crimson Spear it was holding was not affected in the least.
He walked out from the flas like an undead coming out from hell, eliminating all the living beings in the fury of the dead.
Even though Violet did not give a slaughter order, it still did so instinctively.
