CHAPTER EIGHTEEN : ANCIENT RUINS
Weeks turned into months.
Shen Chen grew stronger under Old Liu's tutelage, his cultivation advancing steadily. The bandits had beco his family, his brothers and sisters in arms. But he never forgot his purpose. He was still driven by the hunger for power, still determined to claim the legacy of the Blazing Sovereign.
One day, Old Liu took him to a remote corner of the Desolation, a place where the sand was red and the rocks were jagged.
"There's sothing here," Old Liu said, his voice low. "Sothing that was buried during the war. I found it years ago, but I never had the strength to explore it. Maybe you'll have better luck."
Shen Chen followed him through a narrow canyon, the walls towering above them. The air was thick with the scent of dust and ancient decay.
And then he saw it.
A massive structure, half-buried in the sand. Its walls were covered in runes, its entrance a gaping maw that seed to swallow the light.
"The entrance to a battlefield," Old Liu said. "A place where the armies of the two realms clashed. There will be danger—traps, guardians, remnants of ancient spiritual energy. But there will also be treasure."
Shen Chen stared at the structure, his heart pounding. This was what he had been looking for—a chance to grow stronger, to claim resources that would help him achieve his goals.
"I'm going in," he said.
Old Liu nodded, a proud expression on his face. "I know you will. Just be careful, boy. The Desolation doesn't forgive mistakes."
Shen Chen stepped into the darkness, his blade in his hand, his heart filled with determination.
