Chapter 99: Leaving
Rhea always saw herself as a decisive person, soone who never hesitated. Sotis, she would do things that made her appear blunt and sowhat heartless. She would rcilessly beat up people and walk away without any second thoughts. She always spoke her mind without considering the other person’s feelings and would act without thinking things through.
She believed that in life, there was nothing that could make her hesitate or change her mind once she had chosen a path. Nobody could ever make her stop...
However, everything started to change after she t Draven. Her principles and decisions began to shift. Now, as she gazed into his pale blue eyes, which resembled the clearest sky, and rembered his sincere words, she felt like nothing in the world could make her turn away and leave him behind. Unexpectedly, she realized that she didn’t have it in her heart to walk away and abandon this Dragon.
After all they’d been through together in the past few months, she could be cold-hearted towards herself at tis, but she seed unable to summon that sa indifference towards Draven.
Rhea didn’t even realize her tears until she felt Draven’s gentle fingers brushing them away from her cheeks.
How embarrassing!
She quickly slapped his hand away and hastily wiped her tears herself. Internally, she still blad the damn potion for the jumbled emotions she had been experiencing towards Draven. Taking a deep breath, she still wanted to leave the capital city before Cal caught up with her again. However, she didn’t want to abandon Draven, nor could she bring herself to ask him to co with her, as she was not one to go back on her word. Her pride and principles were at stake. Thus, she stated,
"No matter what you say or do, I will not help you again. The people of Birhhan already know I am in the capital, and they are accusing
of being involved in Edmund’s death. Even though these are just rumors with no evidence, I have drawn attention to myself. If I don’t leave now, it won’t be good for either of us." Rhea picked up her packed chest and walked past Draven towards the door. She paused and added, "I am leaving now... and don’t even consider following ." She hesitated slightly.
Although Rhea uttered those words and left the room, she briefly halted and turned back to check if he would indeed not follow her. Upon hearing his approaching footsteps, she continued down the stairs, only when she got down did she turn to glance back at Draven.
Despite only knowing Rhea for a few months, Draven could discern her desires from her reaction. He didn’t need to be told that she wanted him to co along with her. Without hesitation, he silently turned to follow her downstairs. He didn’t even have ti to return and gather his own belongings, as he knew that he didn’t possess much in this human world. Apart from Rhea, nothing else held significance to him in Birhhan.
As they stepped out of their part of the building, Rhea suddenly stopped and turned her head and fixed Draven with a stare, he also stopped and emotionlessly stared back at her. Her eyes fell on his empty hands, and saw he wasn’t bringing anything along. Nevertheless, she didn’t say anything and resud to walk.
Draven called out, "Rhea, you’re leaving without saying a word to your friend?"
Rhea continued walking without stopping, but she turned her head to respond, "Aria already knew I would be leaving soon. Once I reach my destination, I will send her a letter." With that, she fell silent again and kept walking, until she reached the gate of the building and stopped. She faced Draven and said,
"Let
clarify so things for you, dragon. My journey is long, and I have already told you that I will not risk my life for you again. If you want to follow , you can join , but don’t expect
to kill anyone for you. If we encounter shadow stalkers or fire controllers along the way, I will pretend not to know you and run away. And most importantly, I will not be involved in your plans for revenge against your enemies. You can do whatever you want while following , but I will not take care of you."
Draven simply stared at her, his powers had been restored but not yet fully usable in his current human form. His body was not adapting to the changes as quickly as he would like. Before he could use his powers as before, he needed his true form, which was why he had not started preparing anything yet. And Rhea was well aware of that.
Draven’s eyelids drooped slightly. "In the past, Alina sealed away everything she took from , under my greatest weakness, fire. The power of a dragon lies in their form, and without it, I cannot return to my realm. My true shape is locked away in a dangerous location, and now that you’re leaving, I cannot reach it alone. You possess my core within you, and without it, I cannot break the spells. Hence, I am unable to be separated from you, Rhea," he stated emotionlessly, eting her gaze.
Rhea was taken aback. So, he wanted her to stay with him because he still required her blood to dispel spells? For a mont, she had believed that she held so significance to him, that he didn’t want to part ways. She had completely forgotten that she still possessed sothing that belonged to him. Rhea inwardly scoffed. How foolish of her to think that Draven El-Dezeus, the mighty ruler of dragons, couldn’t bear to be without her because she held so importance to him.
Rhea couldn’t understand why she suddenly felt disappointed and had the urge to punch him in the face. She took a deep breath, calming her nerves. "You want to co along, right? Fine, then co. But rember, I will never help you retrieve anything or protect you from harm again!" With that, she stomped her feet and huffed at him before turning around and walking away.
Draven watched her resentfully walked down the path. His mouth twitched upwards montarily, but then it drooped back down as he shifted his gaze towards The Den Of Pleasure. He fixed his eyes on the window of the room where he had stayed with Rhea, lingering there for a while, before shifting his attention to Aria’s balcony. Letting out a deep sigh, he turned around and followed Rhea down the street.
On the balcony of Valen’s wings, two figures were seen in the shadows looking down at the pair as they walked away down the street. "Lord Azure especially told you several tis to not let the girl out of your sights until he was done. But yet, you’re not stopping her from leaving." Said the woman, who Rhea saw with Valen the other day.
Valen stood in the shadows of the balcony as he causally smoked a cigarette, he blew out a ring of smoke and watched Rhea and Draven leave. He smiled, then replied, "My eyes are everywhere in Birhhan. Stopping her from leaving will look suspicious, especially with that man, who is always around her. It’s better to let her go. After all, she’s going to the place Azure had prepared for her a long ti ago. She is still under my watchful eyes."
