401: Chapter 88 The Whet of a Knife_1 401: Chapter 88 The Whet of a Knife_1 Master Otigha had been planning for this escape for quite a few days.

After the Battle for the territory, all the prisoners of war were kept confined in the large cave on the second level of the Red Earth Highland.

Slaves and mbers of the vassal clans took turns in guarding them in three shifts; there was no door to the cave entrance, but a rough line was drawn with chalk.

Any prisoner who crossed this line would have to bear the severe consequences— as the ones who tried found out when their bodies were torn to pieces.

Master Otigha and his apprentice, due to their unique statuses, were kept in a separate cave under the watch of four Bear Goblin slaves who simply stuffed food into their mouths at al tis.

Confining a mage is not the sa as restraining an ordinary person.

The enemy had made a small mistake due to the lack of individuals skilled in this task.

Restraining soone by stuffing a wooden wedge in their mouth and binding them to a cross would prove effective against a Hill Giant, but it was ridiculous to use this thod on mages who specialize in creating miracles.

Besides the Bear Goblin slaves, two bulky Pier warriors were appointed to keep an eye on Master Otigha and his apprentice.

The figure that intimidated Master Otigha the most was the Pier warrior.

A re glance from the Pier’s gaze would prick him like a spear aid straight at his forehead, leaving him with an overwhelming discomfort.

The period when the Pier warriors left to have their dinner offered Master Otigha an opportunity.

His pretense of weakness over the past few days had lowered the guards’ vigilance.

The Bear Goblin guards weren’t particularly diligent, and while they behaved well in front of the Pier warriors, they beca incredibly lazy the mont they left.

After feeding Master Otigha and his apprentice, these four lazy Bear Goblins didn’t bother stuffing wooden wedges into their mouths, they leaned against the wall and dozed off.

Soon, the cave echoed with the sound of their collective snoring.

“I want water!” Master Otigha shouted.

The snores of the Bear Goblin continued with the sa rhythm.

“I want food!” Master Otigha shouted again.

His calls were answered with snores, smacking lips and grinding teeth.

“xi!” Master Otigha whispered to his apprentice who was tied beside him: “Our chance has co!”

xi nodded and shouted for the guards a few tis to check their response.

The sleeping Bear Goblins only turned over, offering their backs to them.

Once they were sure the four goblin guards were sound asleep, Master Otigha silently invoked a small Fire Elental spell – the “Illuminating Finger Fla”.

This was a basic magic that a rookie apprentice learned.

As the na suggests, the spell produces a candle-like fla on one’s fingers.

It requires minimal Magic Power, and for a mid-level Mage like Master Otigha, it was as easy as lifting an arm or moving a finger.

Being a spell summoned by the mage himself, it resonated with his elental abilities so it wouldn’t burn him.

Master Otigha confidently used the “Illuminating Finger Fla” to burn the rope binding his wrists.

Having observed his master, the clever apprentice, xi, also followed and released himself.

But xi had not yet reached the level of casting “Illuminating Finger Fla” silently.

However, he managed to perform it after an incantation amid the guards’ snores.

It was not for nothing that the human race on the Aegean Continent was considered the smartest.

Master Otigha’s move was reminiscent of the Priest who used his Holy Light Healing not for healing, but for illumination when attacked by Green Demons.

Although it may not be the intended use of the skill, it did work in their favour.

Their wrists secured to the cross were quickly released.

The burning sll that Master Otigha was worried about did not wake up the four Bear Goblin guards.

Thanks to the fierce drafts, the sll of the smoke got carried away quickly.

The four Bear Goblin slaves were sound asleep, drooling all over.

Master Otigha and xi carefully shook off the rope that was charred into two pieces and rubbed their wrists.

Then, they proceeded to burn the rope tied around their ankles.

When the master bent down to do this, the intense chest pain from the beating of the past two days brought tears to his eyes.

Just as they were done untying their feet, they heard frantic footsteps coming from outside.

Nervous, Master Otigha quickly crouched and dragged his apprentice to hide behind the Bear Goblin guards.

The Bear Goblins were twice the height of humans and had robust bodies.

Although using these four snoring Goblins as a shield wasn’t the best choice, the Master and his apprentice had no other alternative in this crisis.

Fortunately, the sound of the footsteps gradually receded.

It allowed Master Otigha, who was ready to launch an attack spell, to finally breathe a sigh of relief.
