The Lucerne army, full of vigor and flushed with energy, was like having been injected with adrenaline. They roared as they pushed forward a bizarre war formation of intersecting hamr and sickle towards the stationary Naga forces. The left sickle-shaped formation’s main force was comprised of 250 saber-toothed beast chariots and 1,000 wolf-legged spider chariots, forming a crescent frontline. anwhile, the thickest part of the right hamr-shaped formation’s head consisted of a square formation of 50,000 heavily armored Gray Dwarves. These intersecting sickle and hamr formations were like an enormous pair of scissors.
"This is called the ’Double-fly Formation,’ my own creation," Roml exuberantly introduced his tactical setup to all the spectators present: "It’s a cocktail formation, a blend of two battle arrays! When engaging, the hamrhead made up of Gray Dwarf soldiers in the hamr formation stabs into the enemy’s center with superior numbers, rapidly breaking the balance of the Naga forces and separating them. anwhile, the sickle formation’s chariot units swing around the periphery to enclose the opponent tightly!"
Liu Zhenhan looked at him, half-laughing and half-crying.
"This seems like a formation intended to annihilate the opponent..." A knowledgeable human military advisor promptly raised professional concerns: "However, isn’t the greatest test of a formation the capability of the commanding officers rather than the understanding of grassroots officers? Training an army to master a battle formation takes a long ti of practice and drills. Aren’t you worried that using such a complex combined formation might be beyond the capabilities of the grassroots officers to manage such complicated formation transitions?"
That question hit the mark. In the advancing ’Double-fly Formation,’ the intersecting parts of the sickle and hamr handles had already beco chaotic due to personnel overlaps. Any observant person could see that this army had not undergone targeted training for the ’Double-fly Formation,’ and it was purely makeshift.
"It’s not a problem; the intersecting parts mainly consist of River Immortals. They aren’t lee units, so a bit of chaos doesn’t matter," Roml laughed. "The essence of the Double-fly Formation lies in the chariots and dwarf infantry flying in tandem. Their circular and square formations are prominent enough to prevent chaos, and that’s sufficient."
Old Liu, with his hawk-eye telescope, focused on those River Immortals. These subterranean natives, whose eyes could emit ’Gamma Rays’, had about 30,000 dispatched to the battlefield today, mostly positioned at the thick sickle handle. What surprised Old Liu sowhat was that these River Immortals seed to have all donned goggle-like eye protectors, for reasons unknown.
Many people were secretly laughing: the na "Fox of the Desert," Roml, had already spread to other races through the mouths of the Beamon. But seeing is believing. Judging from Roml’s performance today in battle formation, it seed he was not yet a renowned commander.
Especially with that hilariously old-fashioned chariot—no one expected Lucian’s fallen elves still maintained such an antiquated military unit. History has long proved that chariots have so lethality against infantry, but they are dead at when faced with nimble cavalry!
It finally beca clear to everyone why Roml chose this asphalt-rich wasteland as the main battlefield — if it were any other grass-knee-high wasteland, the chariots might get their axles stuck, how would they then charge the enemy?
Seeing the mocking glances from everyone, Old Liu felt a bit indignant on Roml’s behalf.
Lucian’s army was clearly trained by fallen elves; it’s the fallen elves who strived to maintain the chariot structure. Roml usually didn’t manage their training situations, so it’s already pretty impressive to spur them into morale on such short notice.
As expected, the Naga forces swiftly made adjustnts, massing their center and deploying a wedge-shaped attack formation on both flanks. The Naga commander must have observed the chaos at the intersection points of the ’Double-fly Formation’ and aid to exploit the Lucian army’s vulnerabilities with the sharp vertex of the wedge formation, intending to make a central breakthrough after the battle comnced.
A few forthright human advisors kept gasping that the situation was dire. If the Naga broke through the chaotic middle junction of the ’Double-fly Formation,’ wouldn’t the mage units stationed in the rear be in deep trouble?
"Does this guy want to bleed Lucian a little?" Liu Zhenhan glanced suspiciously at Roml. The latter was silently observing the battle, seemingly oblivious to the opponent’s reactions.
The two Drow Matrons and the Blood Elf Prince who ca to oversee the battle had already moved with the main force. Although they did not intervene in the formation, rely accompanying the personal guards from a distance to secure the rear, preventing retreat, they, being in the midst of it all, were unable to see clearly—the fallen elves had perhaps placed too much trust in Roml’s commanding capabilities.
"Why hasn’t the air force been deployed yet?" Mourinho, who had held back for a while, finally couldn’t help but ask the calm Roml: "Isn’t it a waste to have a hundred-thousand-strong air force as a reserve? Why not take advantage of this opportune mont to harass the enemy formation? After all, these Sea Clan warriors don’t have long-range units!"
"That too is thanks to Richard. He showed the reconnaissance topographic map without revealing everything, forcing to co up with such a rash plan, slowly figuring out the characteristics of the Naga troops while fighting," Roml adjusted his bronze lookout device and zood in: "Look! The Naga’s chariot units have co out! I wouldn’t have known what their chariots were like without prior observation!"
The Naga chariot units surprised many. During the last sea-land war, the Naga had very few vassals. This ti, they’ve completely upgraded!
A chariot unit composed of 20,000 sea lion warriors rumbled out on the wasteland. They aggressively rushed from the rear formation, adopting a diagonal flight formation on two wings. Their tactical intent was quite apparent—to attack the flanks of the Lucian army from both sides.
This chariot unit was not ordinary; they were two to three-ter-high round stone balls. On each massive stone ball stood four plump and robust sea lion warriors, pedal like they were on a water wheel, pedaling the stone balls—this was a brand-new type of chariot unit, with no drivers, no saddles, and the warriors carried no weapons, relying entirely on the centrifugal force generated by their pedaling to roll and kill!
These embroidered ball chariots were certainly not for long-distance mobility, but for short-range impacts, just seeing the formidable montum generated by their rolling motion was enough to know how terrifying they were!
Liu Zhenhan had long seen the stone-hued embroidered balls among the supplies pulled by giant eels on the magical topographic map. He had also observed these sea lion warriors training daily but deliberately did not inform Roml of the Naga having such units, just to see how this beautiful commander would respond.
The scene of 5,000 stone balls rolling across the wasteland was spectacular. An initially sowhat decent Lucian army began to experience large-scale chaos, and the entire battle line resembled a twisting earthworm with massive undulations.
"These stone ball chariots may seem powerful, but once the sea lion warriors pedaling them are exhausted, the immobile stone ball chariots beco nothing more than fish belly waiting to be slaughtered." Roml chuckled at Old Liu and grabbed a bone-linked treasure box, yelling at the Eagle-Bull officer on the other side of the coordinates: "Deploy a ten-thousand-strong team! Force those sea lion soldiers pedaling the stone balls back! Rember! Just push them back!"
"Why not kill them?" Old Liu rolled his eyes.
"Because I intend to recruit these fallen elves," Roml smiled faintly, harmless as a dove: "Don’t forget, Lusen City is a Paradise Holy Land established by fallen elves."
