“You are too kind, my dear General.” Richard took the waterskin made from the bladder of a Larza Beast, tilted his head back, and drank several gulps of cool water. After three continuous hours of fighting, he was indeed a bit thirsty.
“Where did such cold water co from in this hot weather?” Wiping the water droplets from his lips, Richard curiously looked at the waterskin and asked again, “By the way, Reyes, how are the east, west, and north city walls holding up? Any casualties?”
“Witherspoon had dug countless wells months ago, just in case of a siege. This is well water, so of course, it’s refreshing and tasty.” The Fox Tribe General took back the waterskin from Richard, guzzled several gulps unceremoniously without even wiping the rim, and exhaled in satisfaction: “Your Majesty, rest assured! The other three city walls are well-defended, with General Eriksson from the Southern Province, General Elwin from the Southeastern Province, and General Rohan Pinto from the military headquarters leading the defense. Our reserves are well-organized. The enemy tries to attack in waves, and we counter-attack in turns. Not long ago, His Majesty the King led so elite guards from Sabak to reinforce the west gate. These enemies haven’t posed any trouble at all! Those who climbed the walls were swiftly repelled! The south gate is the most crucial. As long as we hold it, the other walls are of no concern! The Haemu alliance attacking the other three walls lacks mages and archers, charging in bare, as if they could take Witherspoon easily, that’s absurd!”
“Now you can rest assured, as I’ve destroyed all the wood the enemy could use to craft siege engines.” Richard laughed heartily: “Where is His Majesty? Is he still at the west gate? I’ve been worried since I haven’t seen the king, aning there could be a massive siege at the Royal Capital. Now that he’s here, I feel relieved.”
“His Majesty is probably chatting happily with Elder Andulan at the west wall.” General Reyes moved aside for two Vassal Clan workers carrying dirt, smiling at Richard: “Elder Andulan and Madam Ruona arrived in Witherspoon with five hundred Koutao rfolk and Enrida just in ti to et His Majesty, and they went to the west gate together. You might not know, but the Sea Clan attacking the west gate is relatively small in numbers and primarily consists of Mulanese soldiers, who are quite fierce. We must comnd you, Your Majesty. The Koutao rfolk brought by Elder Andulan and the two magical beasts brought by Enrida added significant magic firepower to our city defense system!”
Richard was amused; could the water arrows of the Koutao rfolk truly be considered powerful? If it weren’t for the Mulanese lacking iron armor, or mages and archers at the west gate, those Koutao rfolk would be nothing!
“Organize the armory!” Seeing that the enemy showed no intention to attack for the ti being, Staff Chief Rovi ordered, and all the Sumr Palace guards discarded their armor with a clatter, removing the ostrich feather plus from their helts to wipe the bloodstains, chipped with flesh pieces, blown onto the city wall by magic, resembling dappled sunlight through leaves.
“Everyone, endure a bit, and we’ll reward you accordingly later!” Nedved politely clapped his hands at the Vassal Clan warriors carrying dirt up to reinforce the roots of the War Ancient Trees and Gravitational Pulse Citron Trees: “That’s about enough dirt, now bring water over and water the plants!”
“Mingyao, co here!” Richard beckoned to the tallest and strongest Giant, “How are Helen and Nirwinke now?”
“The boss lady is fine, she just received a psychic ssage from the magic pet, now she’s tending to that Nir… Nir… what was it again?” Mingyao hefted his brightly bladed spade, his eyes scanning for injured soldiers, “That big fellow was hit with a highly addictive poison; we just treated him with a boiling blood prayer. He’s sleeping now, but he’ll likely make a fuss when he wakes up.”
“Bloody Mary.” Richard sneered, “The daring of those fallen elves is truly not ordinary, trying to control a Netherworld commander; I salute all their won…”
“Your Majesty, would you like to see His Majesty first? It’s said he has so great news to share with you!” General Reyes interrupted Richard with a smile, “Our enemies are reorganizing now, showing no sign of returning to base camp for a break. I believe they are nine out of ten likely to attack again shortly. If you’re busy with military affairs and can’t leave, I can fetch His Majesty here…”
“Oh… it seems I really can’t leave now.” Richard saw the fifth prince of the Tang Zang Empire leading a group of guards, ascending the city wall from the stone slope, and opening his arms to greet them.
“War is a money burner, I brought five thousand elixirs, all full replenishnt.” The fifth prince warmly returned Richard’s hug, “My dear brother, as soon as I heard you had an excellent Phantom Beast for , I swiftly reported it to his imperial highness and rushed here!”
“Little Five, have you co to help this ti also planning to play that ga of hiding your strength and light? The enemies in Witherspoon aren’t as formidable as those in the Southern Cross Star Forest last ti!” Richard glanced at the nagerie brought by the Tang Zang prince, noticing that apart from a wine line Dinghu Immortal Master, the rest were all godly archers carrying gilded Vermilion Bird Bows, and frowned.
“Wasn’t it busy driving rogue warriors into the Demon World? All of Tang Zang’s court mages were dispatched for support! It’s not that I don’t want to help this ti, but my hands are tied as I need to settle the Jade Emperor and them safely first.” The fifth prince quickly explained, seeing Richard’s thoughts.
“Alright, I’ll take you down to see firsthand the Phantom Beast I’ve sourced for you! But you’ll have to capture it yourself; I rely make the introductions, no delivery included.” Richard summoned a young priest and patted the fifth prince on the shoulder, “Don’t bla for not warning you, you’ll probably need to summon reinforcents from ho.”
“No worries, even with just our small team, we should have no problem capturing a few Divine Beasts lacking magical attack capabilities.” The fifth prince clung playfully to Richard’s arm, “Brother Richard, there’s another matter His Majesty urgently asked to inquire about: when will you help our Tang Zang Empire ensure the Great Magician, ‘Welcoming Guests with Beard’, safely ascend to sagehood?”
“Soon, don’t worry!” Richard was about to take the fifth prince down to the city, but saw in the fiery glow of the distant horizon, nurous Sea Clan warriors pushing a tall shadow towards Witherspoon, and quickly put on his bronze lookout device.
A tower? Richard raised his eyebrows in surprise; could this be the Sea Clan’s secret weapon?

Since I started writing Blood of the Beasts, I designed the natural environnt of the Donau Wasteland to have significant advantages.
The tal-rich soil can only sustain specific kinds of weeds and cannot support large vegetation.
This has troubled the Beamon but also prevents invaders from profiting.
So everyone shouldn’t worry too much; currently, even if they had 1.4 million or 14 million troops, without siege engines and adequate suppressive firepower, they’d gain nothing against a large city fully prepared for war and with abundant strategic reserves…
Honestly, if I were given a rope to climb a 25-ter-high city wall, I wouldn’t make it up even without rolling stones or logs dropping on …
A decade ago, I might have climbed up, but after ascending, let alone swinging a sword, I’d have to catch my breath just breathing… The awkwardness of the Haemu alliance is quite similar to mine…
In the imminent battle, another epoch-making war song from the Beamon is about to erge, but it won’t originate from Richard; heroes should co forth one after another… Not just humans, Beamons also have talents…
