"Did he tell you anything? Did he give you a golden, scale-like thing?"

"No."

Ronan shook his head. Not to ntion communicating with Dragon Witch Chief Bahafus, or receiving the "Gift" from him, he hadn’t even truly approached him in that dreamlike space just now.

This result wasn’t particularly surprising to Ronan. His soul quality itself wasn’t outstanding, and according to Ewaqu, Dragon Witch Chief Bahafus was the most strict and picky of the twenty-four Witch Leaders.

To be acknowledged by him... now that would be strange.

"Then it seems it was a failure..."

Ewaqu patted Ronan’s shoulder to console him, then turned to look at the other statues surrounding them, saying, "You can try with other Witch Leaders..."

"Forget it."

Ronan shook his head, refusing. He didn’t want to go through an experience like the one he just had again; he wasn’t particularly interested in the Spirit Witch’s heritage.

After all, the decline of the Ancient Spirit Witch is a fact. No matter how glorious it once was, history has shown people that the end of the Spirit Witch... is ultimately a darkness.

Why risk a path destined to lead to a cliff?

"Alright."

Ewaqu saw Ronan’s firm attitude and said no more.

The two of them walked to another statue on the square, this one a massive black wolf statue.

The appearance of this statue reminded Ronan of the genius competition before, when Ewaqu’s final move was to transform into a semi-transparent Ghost Wolf form in their duel.

Perhaps, this is the Spirit Witch ascension route he chose.

"Wolf Witch Chief."

"Like Dragon Witch Chief Bahafus, he’s one of the three Grandmasters of the Spirit Witch Soul Spirit Transformation System..."

"The one who gives this inheritance test is also him."

Ewaqu faced the enormous wolf statue, hands clasped together, an unprecedented look of reverence and devotion.

"Next, I’ll officially enter the test..."

"What do I need to do?"

Ronan finally asked Ewaqu about the real reason he was invited here.

Ewaqu took out sothing shaped like a stone mill from his Space Ring and said to Ronan, "While I’m taking the test, watch over my soul plate.

If the soul plate falls, adjust it back to its original position for ..."

"That simple?"

Ronan felt a bit surprised.

Ewaqu shook his head and, after a mont of silence, looked at Ronan with utmost seriousness and said, "Forgive , Damien, there’s sothing I haven’t told you.

The process of adjusting the soul plate will consu so of your soul lifespan, but not much, at most about ten years per ti..."

"Consumption of lifespan..."

Ronan paused, realizing the true reason Ewaqu had always been so kind and eager towards him.

He helped him ti and ti again, generously exceeding the true depth of their friendship...

As it turns out, he wanted to consu lifespan to help him.

"I’m sorry, Damien, really sorry..."

Ewaqu’s face was filled with guilt, and he couldn’t even look Ronan in the eyes.

"The Wolf Witch Chief’s test is difficult. It allows three failures per trial, but the price is having soone sacrifice a portion of their lifespan each ti...

I’ve already failed many tis, and the elders of the Uta Clan are exhausted because of it. Originally, I didn’t want to seek help from an outsider Wizard; I’ve been carefully nurturing XX..."

Ewaqu ntioned a na, the girl in the white wolf skin dress Ronan once saw in the Uta Clan settlent.

Ewaqu appeared incredibly pained.

"...but ti is too short for , and I only have this one chance left to take the test...

Damien, I... I..."

Ewaqu went from incoherent to almost speechless, looking at Ronan with a desperate plea.

Ronan could see the longing in his eyes. Before this, Ewaqu had always said, "He still has ti to regret," but now, he no longer said that.

Ronan remained silent for a long ti, then slowly said, "Three chances to fail, which ans I need to turn the soul plate for you three tis, consuming a total of thirty years of soul lifespan..."

"If I can pass on the first try... you don’t need to make any sacrifice."

Ewaqu sensed the change in Ronan’s tone and quickly said, "If your soul lifespan is consud, afterwards, I will do my best to make it up to you.

At least I can help you replenish twenty years of lifespan. If you don’t believe , we can make a contract..."

Ronan didn’t respond, just looked at the soul plate in Ewaqu’s hands, and suddenly said, "What if your soul plate is damaged?"

Ewaqu was taken aback, then calmly said, "If the soul plate is damaged, my trial will imdiately fail, and my soul will suffer irreversible damage..."

"I understand."

Ronan nodded, glanced at the gigantic black wolf statue beside them, and said lightly, "Then... please proceed quickly."

Ewaqu said nothing more, only thanked him seriously, then left the soul plate in his hand, which resembled a rough stone mill, and turned to walk towards the black wolf statue.

He approached the statue, recited a spell in a low voice, and imdiately black ripples emanated from the base of the statue. Ewaqu glanced back at Ronan and resolutely walked in.

In the vast Stone Statue Square, only Ronan was left.

After Ewaqu entered the trial, the soul plate he left behind seed rooted to the void, and Ronan couldn’t move it.

Ronan observed the surface of the soul plate, noting that the rough stone mill was faintly glowing and slowly rotating in a clockwise direction.

Ronan suspected that Ewaqu also needed to pay a certain amount of soul lifespan as the price for undertaking the trial.

There’s no such thing as a free lunch, selfishness is human nature, especially for those who are already on the path to demise.

Understanding this, Ronan’s feelings of awe and admiration for the black stone statues around the plaza disappeared significantly.

He even felt that those silent, shadow-casting statues exuded a cold and cruel aura.

"Not every wizard is called Schiper..."

Ronan silently sighed in his heart.

With Ewaqu gone, leaving only him, he now seed to have nothing to do.

The soul plate concerned Ewaqu’s safety and the success or failure of the trial; Ewaqu must have made nurous sacrifices secretly, so Ronan didn’t want to be distracted by other matters. Thus, he wandered aimlessly around the soul plate out of boredom.

Of the only eight statues remaining in the plaza, Ronan was most interested in the statue of the Giant Dragon Witch Chief Bahafus.

Next was the humanoid statue located in the very center of the twenty-four statues.

The latter seed to Ronan the most ancient of all the statues, but the main reason he often glanced at it—was the nurous defects and cracks on this humanoid statue.

He had the feeling that this statue might collapse before his eyes at any mont, and he would have witnessed the complete demise of an unimaginably ancient and powerful wizard’s soul.

After circling around, Ronan’s gaze fell back on the gigantic black dragon statue.

He couldn’t help but recall the conversation he overheard in the statue’s inheritance space.

"Two people... one was a woman, seed like Bahafus’s true form..."

"Then who was the other person? One of the other seven Witch Leaders?"

Ronan pondered, the aning revealed in that conversation seed like another person was inviting the Dragon Witch Chief Bahafus to do sothing together, but Bahafus rejected it.

Bahafus’s attitude towards the other person was very negative, seeming extrely disdainful...

Ronan didn’t co to any conclusions; in fact, he couldn’t even determine if this conversation was real.

It could be his auditory hallucination or possibly a special thod of the Dragon Witch Chief Bahafus to test inheritors?

He was unsure.

While he was pondering suddenly.....

"Gurgle gurgle—"

In the vast square, a strange sound like stone wheels rolling over the ground echoed.

Ronan quickly looked up, instinctively checking the soul plate Ewaqu left behind.

The soul plate showed no anomaly, still rotating slowly without making any noise.

Ronan’s expression imdiately turned serious.

He took a gentle breath, squinting his eyes as he surveyed the surroundings.

Now he was the only one here, the Witch Leader statues wouldn’t move, so...

Where did the suddenly appearing sound co from?!
