Chapter 49: 047 Odd Three

Ding.

The elevator doors slowly parted.

Xindela was talking with a tall, slender man with a yin-yang shaved head; both stood at the elevator entrance, seemingly prepared to leave.

Upon seeing Li Chengyi and his companion, Xindela’s expression relaxed.

“Xiao Yi, you arrived just in ti. Hurry, we are heading to Zhaoshan imdiately,” Xindela said.

“Zhaoshan?” Li Chengyi seed confused. That place was at least three hundred kiloters away from Suiyang—what were they going to do there?

“I’ve just signed a young girl. She has entered a Blind Spot over there and needs our help,” Xindela explained quickly. “Put on the glasses first, I’ll send you the information.”

Li Chengyi wasted no ti in conversation, stepping aside to let the two in, and then put on the AR glasses.

Soon, lines of information stread into his device.

‘Company task: Help Zhong Ying escape from “Mist Street Blind Spot”.’

‘Mist Street Blind Spot—a dimly lit stretch of street shrouded in fog. The different storefronts along it are all firmly shut, uninhabited, and at the end of the street by the roadside, there’s a slot machine connected to a power source.’

‘Points of danger: The slot machine must be played at set intervals; failure to do so will result in unknown dangers.

After the slot machine spins, three patterns will appear.

If the three patterns are of different types, the player will lose part of their body that they own.

With two similar patterns, an unknown reward will be given. To date, Blind Spot Individuals have acquired a dagger with special functions and a bottle of special dicine with unknown effects.

The outco of three similar patterns is unknown.

The outco of two or three identical patterns is also unknown.’

While perusing the information, Li Chengyi followed Xindela, Song Ran, and Sima Gui; they had already boarded Xindela’s car, the urban SUV Mist Banner.

Song Ran drove, Xindela sat in the second row, and Li Chengyi and Sima Gui took the third row.

The six-seater’s positions were an ideal 112 distribution.

After the oppressive sound of the doors closing, the vehicle slowly accelerated, slipping into the dense traffic flow.

In the late afternoon, the howard rush hour traffic was far heavier than usual, and the car moved slowly and steadily.

Seeing the slow pace, Li Chengyi inside the car simply started asking about the situation.

“Boss, this Mist Street Blind Spot, is the key to it this slot machine?”

“It seems to be. That girl has already left it twice. It’s not as dangerous as your situation was; for now, she’s the only one inside,” Xindela answered.

“Just for now?”

“Yes, previously soone vanished during their interaction with the slot machine. So now only she’s inside.”

“So, what can we do by going there now?” Li Chengyi asked.

“I’ve preliminarily found out where this Mist Street is and need people to investigate it in detail,” Xindela replied. “You’re more familiar with the Blind Spots and can adapt better. Plus, strong-minded individuals can experience mory flashes when nearing the Blind Spot which can add details to the investigation. That’s why I’m assigning this mission to you all. Don’t feel pressured, it’s fine if you can’t find any clues.”

“What happens if you never play the slot machine?” Sima Gui, who’d been silent all along, suddenly asked.

“Zhong Ying didn’t explain, the girl’s na is Zhong Ying, but the two tis she went in, the duration of her stay increased significantly each ti. According to the inertia of the Blind Spots, I’m afraid the third ti, she might be trapped there forever,” Xindela sighed.

“How did she get out the first two tis?” Sima Gui inquired.

“Once was when the person accompanying her disappeared, another ti, she played the slot machine and was lucky enough to get two items,” answered Xindela. “Of course, it might also be that the slot machine has a high chance of winning.”

“Is there any docuntation on the Blind Spot?” Li Chengyi asked.

“I’ll send it to you; let’s create a small group to share the information,” Xindela responded.

Soon, he added the three of them to a small group with only two other mbers.

The five of them, including the two already in the group, made it five people in total.

Originally, the two people in the group were Xindela and the newly signed Zhong Ying.

“This is the profile scene image,” Xindela quickly sent a picture resembling a photo.

It depicted a hazy and murky ash-gray fog.

Within the fog, one could vaguely see a straight street extending from below one’s feet to the front and into the far distance, disappearing into the foggy abyss.

The street’s surface was made of old concrete, full of nurous cracks.

To either side nearby were old-style concrete pillar street lamps, with sidewalks and shops lining the street beyond them.

The entire street was dimly lit, deserted, with all the shops shut tight, completely still.

They scrutinized the image and noticed at the end of the street, in front of a children’s goods store, sat a worn-out slot machine.

The slot machine’s screen was powered on, emitting a faint colored light within the gray fog.

That was the only splash of color in the entire grayish street block.

“So that’s the slot machine…?” Without being told, Li Chengyi could sense sothing off about that machine.

Everything else was gray, only the slot machine was colorful, which in itself was abnormal amidst the normalcy.

“As for the specifics, you’ll investigate based on the Blind Spot’s mory flashes once you get there. mory flashes generally depend on ntal strength—the stronger the psyche, the more and clearer the flashes, and they might even affect reality along with the Blind Spot,” Xindela suggested.

“So you’re saying mory flashes are much like premonitions?” Li Chengyi suddenly realized.

“They’re similar. But there’s a fundantal difference. Premonitions will definitively pull you into the Blind Spot, and you’ll suffer harm within the premonition. mory flashes won’t; they are simply images, remnants of the scene, traces of the Blind Spot. Unless you’re extrely ntally strong, they generally won’t cause you any harm,” Sima Gui calmly explained.

“In that case, for those with strong psyches, is there a way to differentiate between the two?” Li Chengyi asked, frowning.

“No, it’s all up to you to judge.” Sima Gui glanced at him, “Based on my personal experience, an on will pull you into the Blind Spot wherever you go. A mory flashback, however, only affects you when you leave a fixed location; you won’t encounter the designated Blind Spot’s influence again.”

Li Chengyi suddenly rembered the two tis during college and at the noodle shop.

Those two tis, looking back now, were very likely just mory flashbacks, not ons.

“Heard you want to beco a cha Engineer?” Sima Gui suddenly changed the topic and looked at Li Chengyi to ask.

“Yes. What does Mr. Sima want to ask?” Li Chengyi didn’t understand why this guy suddenly brought this up out of nowhere.

“With so much money, wouldn’t it be better to splurge and enjoy yourself? Instead, you’re throwing it into a bottomless pit.” Sima Gui shook his head.

“Strengthening oneself is always the right move,” Li Chengyi replied.

“Anyway, people like us won’t live very long, so it’s better to do more of what we want, things we didn’t dare do before. For example, do you have a girl you like? A sport you want to play? Or maybe try so new hallucinogen?” Sima Gui said disdainfully.

“This…”

“What ‘this’? We’re all soon to die, so do whatever you want. Dying in the Blind Spot or outside, it’s all the sa.” Sima Gui spoke carelessly, “I even know a few who blew up several malls right before their end.”

“Why blow up malls for no reason?” Li Chengyi couldn’t understand.

“Annoying to look at, I guess.” Sima Gui chuckled, “Living day by day, with death possibly around the corner—seeing all those happy, smiling faces in the mall. It’s quite normal to do sothing outrageous.”

“Those types of people are in the minority,” Xindela interjected.

“Truth be told, I often think the sa way,” Sima Gui said with a smirk.

Xindela fell silent. Blind Spot Individuals linger on the edge of life and death, too many are neurotic, he had seen plenty during his search for his son.

Even his own son was a similar case.

“To live one more day is a day gained, to experience what you want without any concerns, that’s it. If anyone annoys , I’ll be sure to return the favor,” Sima Gui said with a laugh.

Li Chengyi, upon hearing this, was lost in thought.

Indeed, if everybody was going to die, who would be concerned with the usual formalities, politeness, rules—all cast aside.

Just like when he was at Grecius Parking Garage, the troublemakers from Ash Real Estate approached him, and he didn’t hesitate to deal with everyone swiftly and decisively.

At that ti, his ntality was exactly as Sima Gui had described, ‘Since I might die at any mont, I’m too lazy to overthink anything. Just do it and talk later!’

For a mont, the car fell silent, seemingly subdued by Sima Gui’s words.

Finally, the car had left the city area and was headed towards the outskirts.

“So that’s why Zhong Ying would rather turn to us than to the authorities,” Xindela slowly said.

“Yeah, for people like us, the authorities would lock us up the mont they catch us, to prevent any trouble from soone having an episode,” Sima Gui nodded.

“The more it’s like this, the less people want to be discovered by the authorities,” Xindela said.

Li Chengyi watched the scenery flash by the window in silence.

Suddenly, he realized sothing.

Blind Spot individuals like them, without any status or identity, might indeed be nothing but pitiful creatures. They belong to a group marked by extrely high social instability, akin to terrorists.

Yongnian Town.

The headquarters of Ash Real Estate.

The scene had already been surveyed by the police, the bodies removed, and bloodstains cleaned up.

At night, crickets chirped incessantly, the entire Ash building was quiet.

After so many had died one after another, the surrounding people now viewed this place as an absolute death trap.

Even getting a little close, it seed as if one could sll the faint scent of blood wafting from inside.

Nightti.

A tall woman in a gray and white coat with a black scarf around her neck slowly approached the iron gate outside the Ash building, peering inside.

In the darkness, the only source of light was the bright moonlight of White Star.

But the woman seed to have night vision, her gaze sotis moving, sotis still.

Every place her gaze rested was where Li Chengyi had struck down Ash security before.

“Found any clues?” a voice inquired next to the woman’s ear.

The sound ca from a tiny earpiece in her ear.

“Found a trace. I’m going in for a look,” the woman replied softly.

“I’ve found so information here. Recently, the only company that has had a conflict with Ash Real Estate is a newly established pharmaceutical company in Suiyang City,” the male voice in the earpiece continued.

“What’s the na?”

“Hongjin, should be related, you check it out later,” the male voice said.

“Right. I’ll go in for a closer look first. This guy… his strength and speed, it seems he’s an experintal subject created by a private capital or a small nation.”

The woman looked around, then sprinted forward, her hand lightly grasping the closed iron gate, and scaled the over two-ter tall gate like a monkey.

After landing lightly, she didn’t pause, following the path Li Chengyi had taken straight into the lobby.
