Chapter 730: Chapter 495 Buying a House (Part 1)

"Purchasing comrcial housing to acquire East Sea household registration is like a contagion—it spreads!

My elder sister, upon hearing that Sister Zhang Lan was coming to East Sea to house hunt, surprisingly ca along.

Speaking of which, she and her husband really do have money.

Over the years, her family hasn’t made any big expenses, didn’t even buy any particularly expensive appliances, not even a motorcycle. They’ve been waiting for the housing reform from the Port Authority, intending to buy the two-bedroom apartnt they’re living in now and didn’t participate in the collective housing construction by Changhang Bureau.

Their father ran boats, their mother fard back in their hotown; they didn’t need to take care of them—in fact, their parents provided them with grain and oil, even money...

Had she not insisted on coming to look at houses, I would never have known she and her husband had quietly saved up 110,000 yuan over the years!

Despite this, before coming, she still called up Big Uncle and Second Uncle.

Big Uncle and Second Uncle’s attitudes were very clear, telling her to bravely look, and to call them directly for any amount she wished to borrow.

Han Yu didn’t have the courage to speak to Big Uncle and Second Uncle, and after tossing and turning all last night, hesitating whether to call Xiao Yu, she finally made up her mind this morning, only to have Xiao Yu and Yu Zhen call them first.

"How did you find out?"

"Sister Zhang Lan told us, Brother Salted Fish, since you’ve decided to buy, get a bigger one, in a better location. Don’t worry about money, if you’re short, just give

a call, and I’ll wire it to you."

"How can I accept that?"

"We’re not outsiders, what’s there to be embarrassed about?"

Yu Zhen turned back to look at Xiao Yu and, after thinking a bit, laughed and said: "That’s what we told Sister Zhang Lan too, just look, and let

know how much money you need after you find a good one."

Han Yu subconsciously asked: "Did Sister Zhang Lan borrow money from you?"

Before Yu Zhen could speak, Xiao Yu had already snatched the phone and said with a laugh: "Master Brother just called us. It’s just a loan, what’s our relationship? We’re just like real brothers. He was too embarrassed to speak up, beating around the bush for half a day, and only at the end did he ntion that Sister Zhang Lan wanted to help Yuanyuan buy a house and get a East Sea household registration."

It seems Sister Zhang Lan had set Master Brother on a fundraising mission...

These won have gone mad, willing to do anything to help their children buy a house and get a East Sea household registration.

Han Yu was completely convinced and asked with a wry smile: "You’re lending to both of you, do you really have that much money?"

"Yes, business has been good this year."

"Alright then, if it’s really not enough, I’ll give you a call."

...

The poorest family had now beco the wealthiest, even becoming the strongest support for Master Brother and

in this matter of buying houses.

As Han Yu was filled with emotions, the couple Huang Jiangsheng arrived.

"Salted Fish, why are you by yourself? Where are aunty and Ningning?"

"They went to the toilet, they’ll be here shortly."

Huang Jiangsheng glanced at the heap of luggage beside him and asked with a smile: "Did your sister and sister-in-law also co?"

"They did, it’s almost like a house-hunting group!" Han Yu said helplessly with a smile and curiously asked, "Brother Huang, sister-in-law, how did you find out we were going to look at houses?"

"Zhang Erxiao called us this morning." Huang Jiangsheng’s wife Li Hui took out a stack of newspapers with real estate ads from her bag and said with a smile: "Salted Fish, we just happened to be free today, so we’ll join you."

"I borrowed a van from a friend and we can surely all fit."

"How can we impose like this?"

"We’re not strangers, what’s there to feel embarrassed about?" Huang Jiangsheng retorted and said, patting his arm: "It’s good to buy a house in East Sea, and once you have it, we can continue to be neighbors."

"Houses are too expensive in East Sea, I really don’t want to buy."

"You’re already here, take a look first anyway."

Huang Jiangsheng bent down, picked up a bag, and said looking up: "Don’t worry about money, if it’s not enough, we’re here for you."

Bailong Port is where the Huang Family made their fortune. Li Hui had known Salted Fish nine years earlier, and along with her husband, treated Salted Fish and Xiao Yu as close friends, saying with a beaming smile: "Salted Fish, you don’t need to stay at a hotel tonight, just stay at Zhang Erxiao’s place. Though he and Master Gao don’t co back much, I always go to clean up whenever I have the ti; the bedsheets and quilts are all clean."

"Is their house far from yours?"

"Not far, we bought in the sa complex."

While they were talking, my classmates, elder sister, Sister Zhang Lan and her mother-in-law ca back from the toilets.

All old acquaintances, naturally, there was a warm exchange of greetings.

However, the long-distance bus station was not the place for chatting, so everyone quickly picked up their luggage and crossed the street to board the Jinbei van that Huang Jiangsheng borrowed from who knows where.

"Sister-in-law Li Hui, where shall we start looking from?"

"Ningning, take a look at the ads, wherever you think is suitable, we’ll go there first."

"The down paynt is only 9,000 yuan, enjoy the bustling Pudong... This East Gully Seven Village is not bad, only 2,000 yuan per square ter!"

"Don’t just go for cheap, consider the location too. It’s best not to buy in Pudong if you can buy in the city center, transportation there is inconvenient."

As Han Xiangning was about to speak, Zhang Lan said with an embarrassed face: "President Huang, sister-in-law, we don’t have your kind of strength, we’re just looking at cheaper options."

Han Ning felt it was true and, looking at the newspaper in Han Xiangning’s hand asked, "Where is East Gully Seven Village?"

"In Pudong, on the north side of Lujiazui, still a bit far from Lujiazui itself."

""

"Brother Huang, is it opposite to Fuxing Island on the river?"

"Right, it’s quite close to Fuxing Island."

"President Huang, this Jiangnan Shanshui is also in Pudong and doesn’t look too expensive."

"Properties in Pudong are not expensive. They’re also developing in the area where Shao Lei lives. If you are considering buying in Pudong, you can take a look over there later."

"Are there any developed properties over there?"

"Yes, Sanlin Garden, it’s pretty big."

...

The fact proves that East Sea people have their reasons for not liking to buy houses in Pudong.

The environnt is pretty average, roads are being constructed everywhere.

Transportation is very inconvenient; today we had Huang Jiangsheng driving us. If we were to take the bus, the constant transfers would make you dizzy, and you wouldn’t cover many neighborhoods even in a whole day. And if you took a cab, you might spend a month’s salary in just one day.

In short, although many new neighborhoods have developed in Pudong, they are far from both Huangpu River and the Oriental Pearl Tower and don’t attract many buyers, seeming lonelier than the next.

After a whole day of hassle, we had dinner and stayed over in the three-bedroom apartnt that Zhang Er bought in Xuhui District.

Han Xiangning brought a calculator and started crunching numbers as soon as she sat down.

The East Sea governnt’s policies are really tricky, with clear regulations regarding the application for the blue-stamped Hukou.

You must purchase a comrcial ho in central areas like Huangpu, Nan City, Jing’an, Hongkou, and Xuhui District for a total price of at least 350,000, or buy a comrcial ho in Little Lujiazui area of Pudong New District for no less than 320,000 to apply for an East Sea blue-stamped Hukou.

To apply for a Hukou by purchasing a comrcial ho outside the central tropolitan but within close suburbs, the total price must reach 160,000.

For Zhuangming Island, the requirent isn’t that high; a total price of just 100,000 is enough to apply for a Hukou.

But Pudong can’t even be considered part of East Sea, let alone Zhuangming Island. What’s the point of buying there?

Han Xiangning calculated for a long ti with a bitter face and said, "Mom, Sister, if we want to apply for two Hukous, we need to buy two properties like in East Gully Seven Village or Sanlin Garden."

Xiang Fan asked with a smile, "How much for two properties?"

"If we buy 80 square ters each, one is 160,000, and two would be 320,000."

"The East Sea Hukou policies are really sothing. Even if we buy one, we hardly have a chance to live here, what’s the point of buying two?"

Han Ning looked up and asked, "San’er, you have many friends in East Sea, could you make a call and check if we can only apply for the children’s Hukous?"

Han Yu answered without hesitation, "Surely not, you are police, after all. How can a child have a separate Hukou by themselves!"

...

Huang Jiangsheng realized that they weren’t here to buy properties as a group, but to buy the East Sea Hukou, and he suddenly couldn’t offer any good advice, as their needs were different from others.

Huang Jiangsheng’s spouse laughed upon realizing that the East Sea Hukou, which was once just a pocket item, was actually so valuable, "Auntie, Ningning, you must be exhausted after running around all day. How about we rest now and continue looking tomorrow?"

"It seems like no matter where we look, for properties in less desirable areas we need to buy two to get two Hukous, and for the desirable ones, it would cost at least 640,000 for two Hukous. We don’t have that kind of money."

"A child’s Hukou follows their mother. President Huang, Li Hui, tell , if Ningning gets an East Sea Hukou first, can she later transfer Han Han’s Hukou over?"

"I don’t know, we really don’t understand these things."

"San’er, why don’t you call your friend to ask?"

"Alright."

After the mother-in-law spoke, Han Yu had no choice but to pluck up the courage to call Director Xiao from the Marine Police Bureau.

Director Xiao was not very familiar with the managent of the blue-stamped Hukou, so he helped to contact friends from the Local Police to inquire and eventually called back saying theoretically a child could move to be with their mother, but there were no rules yet regarding the blue-stamped Hukou as it was a new concept.

"Uncle Xiao, does this an the blue-stamped Hukou isn’t an official Hukou?"

"You can’t say it’s not official. Anyway, it’s currently a case-by-case basis, and there is no arrangent yet for family reunions or children moving to be with parents."

"Alright, thank you, Uncle Xiao. We will consider it further."

"Wait a minute."

"Uncle Xiao, what is it?"

"Since you all are here, let’s have a al together tomorrow."

"Uncle Xiao, we don’t want to trouble you. We have many people, and we’re short on ti. My mother-in-law and my sister will have to work the day after tomorrow, so they’ll need to go back tomorrow night."

"How long could a al possibly delay you? Besides, I’m not just inviting you for a al; I can also show you so properties."

"Where are these properties?"

"Gongping Road Pier has a nice apartnt building across from it, not far from Qichang Pier, Xinhua Pier, and East Sea Shipyard."

"Pudong?"

"Uh-huh, on the Jiangnan side, you should be quite familiar with that area."

"Our passenger ships used to dock on the North Bank. I haven’t been to the opposite bank much and am not very familiar with that area. Uncle Xiao, you just ntioned an apartnt. Are apartnts considered very fancy?"

Director Xiao opened the window, gazing at the several newly completed high-rises across the river, and laughed, "It should be the most high-end property in Pudong right now, developed by the South Sea real estate companies for external sale. It’s just a bit out of luck. The developnt ca too late and it’s in Pudong where the location and transport aren’t so great. Now they can only shift from external to dostic sales, selling what was ant for external buyers to the local market!"
