After several years away, as Faye approached the cetery, her heart felt a bit sore.
She held flowers in one hand and grasped Darnley’s hand with the other.
From afar, seeing her parents’ tombstone made her nose tingle.
At so point, two red rose bushes had been planted on either side of her parents’ gravestone.
It was sumr, and the roses were in full, fiery bloom.
She walked up, placed the roses in her hand down, and gazed at her parents’ photos on the tombstone.
"Dad, Mom, I’m back.
It’s been so many years since I last visited you, you aren’t mad at , are you?"
She finished speaking and pulled Darnley to her side, wrapping an arm around his shoulders.
"Mom and Dad, this is Darnley, my son, your grandson..."
As Faye spoke, she bit her lip, her eyes stinging, and she took a deep breath and said to Darnley, "Darnley, greet them, grandpa, grandma."
Darnley looked at Grandpa Townsend’s photo, then turned to look at Grandma Townsend’s photo, and finally bowed politely, "Hello, Grandpa and Grandma, I am Darnley.
I have seen your photos before.
Faye put your photos in our ho.
Faye says you went to heaven because you were good people."
Faye watched him chatter away with his grandparents, her eyes turning red, tears welling up.
If only her parents were still alive, Darnley would surely have gotten along with them so well.
Her parents had been busy all their lives, without much ti to enjoy life.
If only they could have waited till this day.
Isn’t a house full of grandchildren every elder’s wish?
"Faye, why are you crying?"
Faye crouched in front of Darnley, "Darnley, can you wait for at the little path ahead for a bit?
Let talk to your grandparents for a while, then we’ll leave."
"Okay."
Darnley glanced at Grandpa and Grandma Townsend, "Grandpa, Grandma, I’m going ahead, let my mom talk with you."
After saying this, he walked to the entrance of the row.
Faye turned her head and could still see him.
As she withdrew her gaze, she glanced at the roses on the left side.
"Mom, Dad, these years in Switzerland have been good for .
I successfully earned my bachelor’s degree and helped out in Forrest’s new company.
When you were alive, I didn’t manage to beco an excellent daughter, consud as I was by a love for a man who wasn’t ant for , leaving myself wounded.
I’ve always regretted waiting until after you were gone to co to my senses.
If you were still here, I would have made you so proud and fulfilled.
Mom and Dad, rest assured, I am now a mother too.
I understand life, and I know how to be an outstanding woman too.
Now, I won’t be obsessed with love, and in the future, I’ll always strive to be the daughter you can be proud of, even in heaven."
Faye tilted her head back to prevent tears from falling.
She couldn’t cry in front of her parents; she couldn’t let them worry.
As she left the cetery, Faye had already cald her emotions.
Back in the city, Faye took Darnley straight to the hotel.
The weather outside was exceedingly hot, the air almost on fire.
Faye could tell Darnley really wanted to go out and play, but she really couldn’t stand the heat and ignored his expectant little eyes.
At noon, Oliver Turner arrived at the hotel to have lunch with the two of them.
Since the board eting was canceled last minute, he had no other engagents in the afternoon.
"Faye, where are you going this afternoon? Let take you out to have fun."
"In such hot weather, it feels like there’s no interest in going anywhere."
Darnley put down his chopsticks and raised his hand, "Dad Oliver, I know a place I’d like to go."
Faye turned to look at him, "How is it that you’re interested in everything? It’s very easy to get heatstroke in such hot weather."
"Faye, you can’t miss out on beautiful scenery just because of the heat."
Darnley widened his eyes, "You need to be a little braver."
Hearing Darnley say that, Oliver Turner laughed, "Darnley speaks to my heart."
"Fine, since both of you have such energy and aren’t afraid of the heat, go ahead.
Anyway, whatever I say, I’m staying in the hotel today to pretend to be dead."
"All right, Darnley, will you go out with Dad Oliver to play?" Oliver Turner ruffled Darnley’s hair.
"Sure thing." Darnley grinned so widely that his lips almost reached his ears.
After lunch, the two of them left.
Faye returned to her room alone.
Seeing the blazing sun outside, Faye felt a bit worried.
Is it really okay to let them go out like this?
As she hesitated, Forrest called her, "Didn’t you previously ntion doing a jungle adventure style tourism project?
Yesterday, I found an extre survival expert and went for an on-site inspection of a forest.
It covers approximately 0.2 hectares and is free of dangerous animals and plants.
And quite a few resources for wilderness survival are available.
Its relatively small area makes it easier to control, ensuring visitor safety.
I stayed up late making a contract for you to review."
"Understood."
Faye hung up and opened MSN to check the contract.
As the MSN ssages flashed, Faye clicked them open and saw it was Danielle adding her as a friend.
After Faye added her, Danielle imdiately sent her a ssage.
"Faye, are you there? I have so good news to share.
I contacted nine classmates last night, and they all said they will attend the reunion.
We should be able to hold it soon."
Faye sent a smiley face, "You’re quite effective.
"Yesterday I forgot to ask, are you married? Will you be bringing your boyfriend or husband?"
Faye hesitated, "What about Zenia? Is she bringing anyone?"
"I coerced her into it, and she agreed to bring her boyfriend."
Really, Faye smiled lightly, "Then I will also bring soone; the more, the rrier."
"Okay, I’ll count you as two people then."
"Alright, Danielle, I’m a bit busy right now, let’s chat more when we have ti."
She exited MSN and called Forrest back.
"How about it, are there any alterations needed?"
"I think it’s pretty good, I’ve sent you a few clauses I want to add.
Have a look, and if it’s okay, we should seal the deal on this project early.
Younger people are into adventures these days.
Although it’s not real, it still satisfies their curiosity.
I’ve conducted market research on this project; it certainly won’t be a flop."
"You’ve made so much money over these years.
I completely trust you on this.
How did today’s board eting go?"
"Second Master Warren had to travel for a sudden matter, so the eting was canceled."
"Oh boy, that guy seems born to be your foil."
"Why do I detect a hint of schadenfreude in that?"
"You can tell from that far away?
Guess I was too obvious, hahaha."
Faye rolled her eyes, "Alright, stop joking around, finish reviewing the contract and get so sleep."
"Understood."
Hanging up, Faye stood up and tied up her hair, initially intending to wash her face.
She had only taken two steps when her phone rang again, and she helplessly turned back, thinking this man sure knows how to chatter.
But when she picked up the phone, her heart suddenly felt uneasy.
How intimately familiar she was with this number.
No matter how she tried to forget, those eleven digits had once been engraved in her veins over the past eight years.
But oddly, how did he get her number?
Right now, she truly found the ringtone sowhat grating.
After hesitating for a mont, she decided to put the phone back on the coffee table and act like she hadn’t heard it, turning to the bathroom to wash her face.
As the faucet turned, the ringtone stopped.
Faye let out a sigh of relief and splashed water on her face.
Looking at her face, sprinkled by water in the mirror, she was perplexed how he knew her number.
It shouldn’t be.
As she exited the bathroom, the ringtone, like a relentless tune, started again.
Faye went over to take a look, unsurprisingly, it was still him.
What on earth did he want?
Why did he call her?
She sat before the couch and stared at the phone with conflicting emotions.
She couldn’t answer; they had nothing to do with each other anymore.
Why should she take his call? No, she shouldn’t.
Faye turned toward the bed, grabbed her iPad, plugged in her earphones, and played music, ignoring the phone’s persistent ringing, refusing to react whatsoever.
Oliver Turner and Darnley returned a bit after seven.
Darnley was a bit excited, "Faye, we went to the amusent park.
The park has a children’s the park, it’s so much fun.
Dad Oliver says the the park was newly built over the past few years, and you haven’t been there either.
Dad Oliver even booked the whole place for today, I had so much fun."
Faye looked at Oliver Turner, "You booked the place?"
"The kid wanted to play, so naturally, I had to let him play to his heart’s content."
Faye shook her head and laughed, "You’re seriously spoiling him."
She ruffled Darnley’s hair, "Look at you, your hair’s soaked. Go wash up."
Darnley giggled and ran into the bathroom.
She poured Oliver Turner a glass of water, "Really, thank you for today."
"It’s nothing, having the chance to spend ti with him was very fun for too.
I haven’t had such a relaxing day in years."
He took the water Faye handed him, "How was your day? Did you get so rest?"
"Not bad. Since having kids, there are few opportunities to nap during the day.
Over the years, I’ve gotten used to it. The rare free ti today, and I couldn’t fall asleep."
"Didn’t you waste a whole afternoon then?"
Faye shrugged and smiled, "Not really, I spent the afternoon listening to music, and I’m in a pretty good mood."
"Should we go down to eat later, or have them send the food up?"
"Let’s have them send it up.
And... do you want to take a shower too?
Honestly, since knowing you, I haven’t seen you like this."
Faye said, eyeing Oliver Turner’s current state from top to bottom.
He indeed seed quite exhausted today.
Honestly, taking care of a child is nowhere near as easy as imagined.
"Do I look a ss now?"
Faye lowered her gaze and smiled, "Not a ss, just not as sharp as before."
"Is it convenient?"
"Huh?"
"Is it convenient for to shower here?"
Faye laughed, "What’s inconvenient about it? It’s not like we’re planning anything."
