"Guilty? Because of that Isla Linton?
I think you’re not guilty; you’re just bored out of your mind.
What’s her business got to do with you anyway?
Your uncle didn’t even figure it out himself, why should you feel guilty?
Those two were just not ant to be, it’s not your fault.
Ah, forget it, talking to you is pointless.
I’m at work now, won’t talk to you for now, I’ll co to find you after work, let’s have dinner together."
Chloe Wilder hung up the phone, leaving Ivy Miller flustered since she hadn’t finished speaking.
But oh well, other people have jobs and she doesn’t, can’t always be bothering them.
Thinking about work, Ivy suddenly stood up, oh no, she forgot the important thing.
Didn’t her father-in-law say yesterday that she should drop off her resu at the company today?
The resu wasn’t done yet, so she imdiately turned around into the bedroom, opened her computer, and started working on it.
She only managed to submit her resu application in the afternoon.
After everything was sorted, she called Damian Sullivan to tell him she had submitted her resu.
On the third day, she received an interview call from the Twilight Group.
On the way back from the group interview, she called Henry Sullivan.
This was the second ti she called him since he left.
Henry was coincidentally not busy and answered the phone, asking, "Have you had lunch?"
Ivy looked at the ti in the car, it was already eleven forty: "Not yet, just got back from an interview at Twilight Group."
"You went for the interview today?"
"With Dad around, of course, it was quick."
Henry nodded: "Don’t stress too much. You’re just going to work as a junior employee, just do your best."
"I know."
"Which departnt did you apply for?"
"Translation Departnt, English translation."
Henry knew she graduated from a teachers’ college and her English was pretty good: "That work can be exhausting, you might find it frustrating at first."
"Everything is tiring, being in the army is tougher, yet you never complained about it.
I’m a Military Wife, I have that mindset alright."
Henry nodded and chuckled; her mindset was comndable.
In her first month at the company, Ivy felt like she was nearly drained of life.
Not because she wasn’t working hard enough, but because what she learned in school was hardly applicable here.
There were too many technical terms, and she had to learn a lot on the fly.
Initially, she spent ten nights cramming vocabulary deep into the night.
Because her translations were either too slow or full of errors.
Which led to her being consistently called out by the Translation Departnt’s leadership.
She’s been thick-skinned since childhood, so she wasn’t afraid of criticism, but she was terrified of getting picked on by her father-in-law.
So she had to put more pressure on herself.
After a dozen or so days, she stopped making professional errors.
But due to her lack of social experience and inability to flatter, compared to the other two new translators, she was clearly isolated.
Every ti work was assigned, the team leader always gave her the toughest manuscripts to translate, making her work overti every night.
Today, after receiving her salary in the afternoon, everyone chipped in for a group dinner, but she couldn’t make it because she hadn’t finished translating the docunts, and the leadership told her to complete the work before leaving.
But whatever, she didn’t want to eat with people who didn’t like her anyway.
This is what they call "awkward conversations are too many."
At around eight, her phone rang, seeing it was Henry calling, Ivy was delighted and imdiately answered: "Hey, Uncle."
"Where are you? You sound excited."
"I’m... at ho."
Henry raised his eyebrow: "Hesitating at ho? Co on, did you sneak off to a bar again?"
"No, what do you take for? Work has been exhausting lately; I don’t have the energy for bars."
Henry figured she wouldn’t do that, and Owen Lennon hadn’t called about her frequenting bars either.
"Well, take care of yourself, get so rest, don’t overwork.
The idea behind sending you to the company wasn’t for you to suffer."
"Yes," though he said that, with her being there, how could she not endure it, she thought jokingly.
As they were chatting, footsteps were heard at the door, followed by a man’s voice: "Ivy, you’re really still here."
Ivy got tense for a mont, looking towards the door, Henry’s displeased cold voice ca through the phone: "What’s happening? Why is there a man at ho?"
The visitor was unaware of the situation over the phone and just walked up to Ivy: "Before I left, I saw you were still working late, thought you’d probably haven’t eaten, so I brought you so food."
"Thank you, Jack," Ivy said as she took the dinner nervously, covering her phone: "Did I interrupt your dinner gathering? I’m sorry."
"No problem, everyone already ate and left, I just ca up as I was passing by.
How’s it going, haven’t finished the docunts?"
Ivy furrowed her brows, why hasn’t he left yet, her uncle might think she brought a man ho.
"Just one more page to translate and I’ll be done, once I finish, I’ll head back.
Jack, it’s getting late, you should head back too."
Jack Jude gave her an ambiguous look, nodded, and smiled: "Alright, but if you don’t understand anything, give a call, you’re just a young girl, don’t stay too late."
"Okay, thanks."
Once Jack left, Ivy sighed in relief and put the phone back to her ear: "Hey, Uncle."
"Are you still working overti at the company?"
Ivy thought thankfully she hadn’t hung up, otherwise, she couldn’t explain it.
"Yes."
"Then why did you lie to saying you’re at ho?"
"I just didn’t want you to worry about ."
"Now that I know, I’ll still be worried."
Ivy chuckled lightly: "Alright, no need to worry about .
My car is parked right by the elevator door.
I’ll go downstairs and get in the car, very safe.
Besides, I’m living at your place now; the security in that complex is good, rest assured."
Henry listened to her comforting him and felt a bit guilty.
She said she wouldn’t go to work, but he insisted, and now...
"Forget it, starting tomorrow, you don’t need to go to the company, just stay ho, I can support you."
"Co on, it’s not that serious," Ivy thought, it’s just working so overti.
"Enough, just listen to on this. I thought having you work at the company was to pass the ti, I didn’t expect them to actually put you to work."
"No one’s bossing around, this is my job. As long as I do my job well, I won’t feel guilty; if anyone thinks they can bully , that’s not gonna happen, I’ll protect myself."
She’s not fully up to speed with the job yet; she can’t bla others for that.
"Who was that man who brought you food? He sounded a bit overly concerned."
