Jane’s mother walked to the bathroom door and knocked.

"Jane Quinlan, what’s wrong with you?"

"Mom, I’m overly hungry, got hit by the aroma.

I’m going to use the restroom first.

When is the soup going to be ready? Serve a bowl, will you?"

Jane’s mother shook her head: "You child, not eating properly when it’s ti for als, now you’re in a rush.

The soup just started simring, it’s all fishy sll, that would only make you feel nauseous, wouldn’t it?

You, after a while, just eat sothing light to tide you over.

The soup won’t be ready until evening."

Jane Quinlan ca out of the restroom: "What kind of luck is this, can’t even enjoy soup when I want to."

Grumbling, she followed her mom into the kitchen and took leftovers from lunch to eat.

Jane’s mother wanted to heat it for her, but she wasn’t that delicate.

She went straight to the table ready to eat.

Jane’s mother went back to kitchen, Jane picked up a stead bun, and poked around with her chopsticks in the dish.

So strange, still feeling nauseous, what’s going on.

It can’t really be because I’m too hungry, can it?

She took a breath, biting into a stead bun.

Just as she took a bite of the dish, the nausea surged, and she hurriedly ran back into the restroom.

Since she hadn’t eaten lunch, there wasn’t much for her to throw up.

This feeling really made her uncomfortable.

Standing in front of the bathroom mirror, Jane Quinlan felt sothing wasn’t quite right.

Counting the days, her period was late.

She bit her lip, previously she thought it was just like the occasional irregularity.

But now the nausea made her suspect, could she be...

Jane Quinlan looked at herself in the mirror, gently touching her own belly.

Couldn’t be... but it’s not impossible either.

Kay Forrest has never used any protection with her.

If there’s no protection, then anything’s possible.

No good, have to go to the hospital and check tomorrow, better safe than sorry.

"Jane Quinlan, where did you run off to again?

A whole table of dishes untouched, and I have to clean up after you."

"Mom, I just rembered I didn’t wash my hands, I am in the restroom washing them.

I’ll clean up by myself in a bit."

Jane Quinlan said this as she had already opened the door and ca out.

She didn’t plan to let her family know about this before she got it checked out.

She carried her al back to the kitchen.

Jane’s mother was puzzled: "Not eating again?"

"Mhm, it’s cold, let’s eat together in the evening."

She returned to her room and started looking up early pregnancy symptoms on her mobile phone.

And how to cope with nausea during pregnancy.

The amount of information on Baidu was huge, it took her two whole hours to browse.

Before she finished, her phone rang again.

This ti the caller ID showed Kay Forrest.

Jane Quinlan picked up the phone directly: "Hello, Forrest."

Her voice was a little excited.

"Why did you pick up so quickly?"

"I was using my phone, have you arrived yet?"

"Mhm, just got into our little nest."

Jane Quinlan pursed her lips: "Weren’t you supposed to go to your dad’s place?"

"Not going tonight, didn’t sleep well last night, need to take a nap here.

I’ll go tomorrow, don’t worry, your husband is a man of his word."

Jane Quinlan chuckled, now hearing the word "husband" didn’t make her feel cheesy at all.

In the past, she always thought that couples who called each other husband and wife were insane.

They’re not actually married, what’s with the calling.

But now she didn’t think so.

Caught in the mood, what’s the big deal.

"Driving by yourself must have been exhausting."

"Tired, not so much, but every ti I arrived at the toll booth I would rember the scenes of us resting at the service station when we were together.

Guess I’m missing you, haha, even I’m impressed with myself."

Jane Quinlan covered her mouth and giggled secretly: "What, missing is not a cri."

"But do you miss ?"

"Except when sleeping, always thinking of you."

"Sleeping? Don’t tell you’ve been sleeping since I left."

Jane Quinlan chuckled, and Kay Forrest sighed: "You heartless thing, you can sleep without holding you, huh."

"I really should have had trouble sleeping.

But you wore out good last night, didn’t you.

I didn’t feel like sleeping ntally, but my body was so honest — it fell asleep as soon as it touched the pillow."

Kay Forrest chuckled and rolled over to lie on the bed: "Fine, now I’m on the bed too."

"You’re not taking a shower then?"

"I got infected by soone. Suddenly discovered that not taking a shower indeed doesn’t kill a person."

Jane Quinlan snorted a laugh; that was her classic line.

Every ti Kay Forrest asked her to take a shower when she didn’t feel like moving, she would say, ’Oh my, I won’t take it today, not showering won’t kill a person, right.’

"Laugh it up, I really want to hold you now."

Jane Quinlan leaned back into bed: "Co on and hold then."

"Then I might really co over, okay? I’ll have the driver take there, it’s just in ti to spend New Year’s at your place."

"I was joking," Jane Quinlan cried out at once: "What’s with you... bullying at every turn."

"Hmm, wives are there to bully, but only I can bully you, nobody else."

Jane Quinlan huffed: "Alright, I know you had a tough day today, go get so sleep, my family’s going to have dinner soon, and you rember to eat properly too."

"Um, let’s hang up."

After Jane Quinlan hung up the phone, she felt a sudden loss; hearing his voice just made her miss him more.

Kay Forrest said he was poisoned, but she felt like she was really the one poisoned okay.

It couldn’t be more tragic, missing him too much.

During dinner, Jane Quinlan sat down at the dining table.

Looking at the food on the table, she had no appetite, inexplicably just wanting to eat so smashed cucumber.

Seeing that she didn’t start to eat, her grandmother kept serving her dishes.

"Child, you didn’t eat at noon, why aren’t you eating properly now.

Look how thin you are; you need to eat more."

"Grandma, I’m just not that hungry."

Grandfather laughed: "Little Jane is yearning for Forrest, you old lady don’t understand this stuff."

Grandmother gave grandfather a glare: "Just you understand it then."

Jane Quinlan chuckled and then turned to her mother: "Mom, do we have cucumbers at ho?

I want to eat so smashed cucumber."

"Yes, go smash it yourself."

Jane Quinlan stood up and headed to the kitchen, humming a tune and tying on an apron as she smashed and munched on the cucumbers.

So refreshing.

Just cucumbers and stead buns, even though she felt a bit uncomfortable after eating, it was still better than not eating at all.

Not eating would leave her hungry.

Returning to her room, she saw the phone’s indicator light flashing persistently.

Jane Quinlan picked up the phone and saw that the missed call was from Kay Forrest four minutes ago.

She called back right away: "Hey, how co you’re not sleeping?"

"I’m really tired, but just can’t fall asleep, I keep thinking about you, what should I do."

Jane Quinlan thought for a mont: "Then close your eyes and lay there, and I’ll chat with you. Whenever you fall asleep, I’ll hang up, how’s that?"

"Have you eaten?"

"Hmm, just finished and ca back to my room."

"Then good, keep company for a bit." Kay Forrest closed his eyes: "Anything’s fine, as long as I can hear your voice."

Jane Quinlan thought for a bit: "Adriana Golden called today, Rowan Golden and Savannah Golden are getting a divorce.

She originally invited to join their gathering tonight, saying it’s to comfort Rowan, but I didn’t go.

I think I didn’t need to go, after all, it would be kind of awkward with where I stand."

"Right, I get it."

"Although their marriage failing has nothing to do with us, Savannah must have been provoked because I found a good boyfriend.

I feel like we were a catalyst that sped up the breakdown of their marriage."

"That’s because their fate wasn’t deep enough. Did we not also have people ddling in our relationship?

We’re still doing fine."

Jane Quinlan thought about it, and that seed to be the point, indeed.

The two of them chatted sporadically, and gradually, there was no response from the other end of the phone.

She listened to his breathing sounds, feeling utterly content.

Confirming he had fallen asleep, she then hung up the call.

Not having had enough sleep in the afternoon, she turned over and nestled into the blankets, and it wasn’t long before she also fell asleep.

The next morning, Jane Quinlan woke up early.

Her mother, who was making breakfast, got startled by her own daughter.

She usually wouldn’t get out of bed until after nine o’clock when she returned ho.

Now it was only seven fifty, and she was already up.

"Mom, I need to go out for a bit."

"So early? Breakfast is almost ready."

"I won’t eat, I’m heading out."

Jane Quinlan backpacked and went outside, and by the ti her mother ca out of the kitchen, she was already far away, so her mother decided to just let her be.

Jane Quinlan arrived at the intersection and took a taxi directly to the hospital — she needed to see if she was really pregnant.

There was an inexplicable tension in her heart, filled with both anticipation and fear, a strangely eerie feeling.
