Neither of them had much of an appetite. After ordering a steak, a salad, a few desserts, and two glasses of waterlon juice, they started chatting.
Clara held her waterlon juice in one hand, while her other arm rested against the table as she propped her head up and gazed out the window.
"Faye, I haven’t gone traveling in ages.
Once I’m better, let’s go on a soul-searching trip, girlfriend to girlfriend."
Faye let out a dramatic gasp: "Since you’ve extended such a warm invitation, how could I refuse?"
Clara chuckled and shot her a playful look: "You act like this every day. Aren’t you afraid Hunter’s going to pick up your bad habits?"
"What are you talking about? Clearly, it’s who’s been corrupted by him.
Did you not notice? I used to be the picture of grace and kindness back in the day."
Clara laughed and nodded: "Oh, absolutely. And now?"
"Now? Now I’m still graceful and kind."
Faye couldn’t help breaking out into laughter after finishing her sentence.
The steak arrived, and Faye casually cut up Clara’s steak for her, sliding the plate in front of her.
Clara raised her brows: "Such a stunning beauty suddenly displaying boyfriend energy? I think I might have a crush on you."
"Crush away... Wait—not so fast. I actually ca here with an agenda today.
You can’t be fawning over just yet, because I’m here to introduce you to a man."
Clara burst into laughter: "Are you kidding ? Look at right now. You’re trying to introduce to a man? Don’t ruin this poor guy’s life, okay?"
Faye spoke while carefully slicing her steak: "This isn’t about what you want; I have to tell you anyway. It’s called fulfilling a request faithfully."
Clara tilted her head, confused: "Is my Uncle Oliver asking you to help find a husband?"
"What? This has nothing to do with Oliver.
A while back, Hunter took to one of his friends’ gatherings. There, I t the grandson of the forr mayor.
You might’ve heard of him. He’s one of the rising stars in the business world and is doing really well in the industry.
He now owns several listed companies, and his assets already exceed a billion. He’s definitely a promising catch."
"I think I’ve heard of him, but I don’t know his na or what he looks like.
From what you’re saying, though, he does seem pretty impressive."
"Absolutely. I’ve t him in person. While he’s not as refined as your Uncle Oliver, he’s definitely outstanding as far as n go.
Oh, and his na is Sean Lennox. He’s quite tall—taller than your Uncle Oliver. By my estimate, he’s at least six foot two."
It was Faye’s first ti matchmaking for soone, and honestly, she was a little excited.
If she succeeded in pulling it off, should she consider switching professions in the future?
Clara sighed, looking at her seriously.
"Listen, I get that you want to help , but don’t push such an amazing man into a pit of fire just because I need care.
Look at —what am I capable of giving soone in terms of happiness?
Physically, I can’t. Emotionally, I can’t either. Rather than burden soone, wouldn’t it be better for to avoid harming them altogether? Don’t you agree?"
Faye eyed her intently: "What’s wrong with you? From my perspective, you’re perfectly fine.
Besides, I’m not forcing him onto you.
He ca to of his own accord, asking for help with matchmaking.
Apparently, he saw you once at an event by chance and instantly fell for you.
He told he was deeply concerned when he learned about your car accident.
He even visited the hospital several tis, but unfortunately, your room was restricted, and visitation wasn’t allowed without permission.
He knew you weren’t acquainted with him and didn’t want to disturb you unnecessarily."
Clara sneaked a laugh: "Really? So back when I wasn’t injured, I was this charming? How co I never noticed?"
"Hey, focus." Faye shot her a look. "Seriously, consider it. Don’t trap yourself inside your own mind.
You’re at the pri of your life, and eting a man who genuinely loves you is a blessing.
Regardless of whether anything pans out, you should at least et him and see.
If you don’t like him, you can still be friends—it wouldn’t hurt.
Hunter is excellent at judging people. He says Sean is a good guy, so I think it’s worth considering."
Clara hesitated for a mont, then grew serious and shook her head: "I won’t et him."
"Why?" Faye was surprised. She thought she’d made a pretty compelling case.
"To be honest, Faye, I... I don’t plan to get married.
Now that I think about it, living solo is fine too.
Who knows when my body will fully recover?
I don’t want to drag anyone down or be anyone’s burden.
I enjoy my current freedom and the carefree feeling of being alone."
"Do you truly enjoy it?" Faye raised a brow at her: "Clara, I lived on my own with two kids for five years.
I know what so-called freedom feels like.
Freedom for your body doesn’t necessarily an freedom for your heart.
I think, even if others don’t understand what I an, you do, right?"
Clara looked down, pressed her lips together, then glanced up with a joking expression: "You love shattering my delusions, huh? Can we even still be friends at this rate?"
"You know I’m doing this for your own good," Faye said with a laugh.
Clara exhaled loudly: "But do you really think I can make soone happy?"
"The question isn’t whether you can make soone happy—it’s whether you’re willing to accept happiness from soone else.
If you are, then be brave and embrace it.
Learn to love yourself and give others the chance to love you.
Slowly, as you fall in love with soone again, you’ll realize... having soone who truly understands you is one of the best feelings in the world."
"Easier said than done. You speak from privilege, Miss Content-with-Life."
Faye chuckled: "Exactly. That’s why I’m serving this hungry soul by pitching her a good man. Why don’t you just say yes already?"
Clara was still hesitating, so Faye seized the mont: "Hey, at least give yourself a chance.
The thing is, Sean’s sincerity is undeniable. I think you should really give it a try.
The world is incredibly vast, constantly changing, and so are people’s hearts. Who knows? You might actually et the right person by a stroke of luck."
Clara raised her brows slightly and smirked: "Maybe I should bravely et Master Sean despite my physical challenges?"
Faye clenched her fists in excitent, practically jumping for joy: "I can already sll bridal flowers in your future!"
Clara rolled her eyes: "If you’re this over-the-top, I should’ve been married ten years ago."
"Ten years ago? No way. That would’ve been illegal. Now hurry up and eat; your steak’s getting cold."
Later that afternoon, after finishing a eting, Hunter returned to his office and noticed a missed call on his phone.
He called back, and Owen’s voice quickly ca through on the other end.
"Finished with work, Hunter?"
Hunter flipped open the file on his desk absently, responding with a casual "Hmm."
"Did you find anything out?"
"You were right. The results of my investigation align with your predictions.
Eight years ago, Sebastian did indeed transfer five million dollars to Walter Hansen’s account.
On top of that, I’ve uncovered sothing even more intriguing."
Hunter’s brows arched into an elegant curve, and his hand flipping the file paused. "Tell ."
"Walter’s company has two major shareholders. One of them is a mystery—no one has ever seen them, and they never attend company etings.
Their voting rights are all handed over to Walter Hansen. Rumor has it this mystery shareholder is soone with the last na Sheldon... and it’s a woman."
Hunter let out a soft snort, finding the whole situation amusing.
"Hunter, it seems we’ve seriously underestimated Sebastian all these years.
Turns out, she has a much more hidden side than we thought."
"Owen, make sure Faye doesn’t find out about this for now."
Owen laughed: "Don’t worry. You two can share your little marital secrets yourselves; I won’t ddle.
If you need anything else, just let know. But for now... I’ve got work to do."
"Alright, you take care."
After hanging up, Hunter set his phone aside, his gaze narrowing in quiet contemplation.
When his phone rang again, he glanced over and saw it was Faye calling. He answered imdiately.
"Hello."
"Hunter, I’ve got great news—Clara’s agreed to et Sean Lennox!"
"Now that really is good news."
"But I don’t have Sean’s number. Can you send it to ? I’ll pass on the good news to him."
"I’ll tell him myself."
Faye pouted: "That’s so inconvenient. I’ll still need his number to arrange future etups. You can’t always stay in the middle passing ssages, can you?"
"Why not? I don’t intend for anyone to have access to my wife’s phone number anyway."
Faye couldn’t suppress a giggle: "Hunter, you’re so childish."
Hunter’s mischievous grin didn’t bother with her opinion.
At the party that day, Sean had called to tell him: ’Hunter, your wife is truly a goddess—she’s a hundred tis more beautiful than any photo.’
That was when he realized taking her out to public events might not have been the best decision.
His wife was stunning, so it was probably better to keep her hidden and avoid letting other n admire her. Otherwise, he’d feel very displeased.
"This isn’t childish. It’s being a responsible gatekeeper for Sean Lennox; he should be grateful."
Faye couldn’t stop laughing.
Hunter knew what Faye was laughing at but didn’t mind. Instead, he asked her: "What do you think about Sean Lennox?"
"Hmm... I don’t know much about him, so I can’t say.
But you said he’s a good person, so I trust you.
That’s why I introduced him to Clara—I don’t let just anyone pass my scrutiny.
He’s good-looking, but as for his character, I’m going off your recomndation."
"Good-looking, huh? Is he more handso than ?"
Faye pursed her lips, struggling not to laugh: "I’d say... it’s about even."
"If you dare, say that to again. I promise you’ll regret it when I get ho tonight."
"Let think..." Faye humd.
"Hunter, isn’t it funny? I seem to be experiencing selective amnesia.
I absolutely can’t recall what I just said. Could you repeat your question for ?"
"I asked if I’m more handso than Sean Lennox."
Faye grinned: "You’re the most handso—the ultimate, unbeatable, universe-destroying kind of handso."
