Tong Yao looked at her son and asked softly, "What happened?"
Tong Airui sighed lightly, "Let’s split up and leave first. I’ll tell you once we’re outside."
Tong Yao nodded, took Long Che, and left the venue first.
Tong Airui gave Tong Aino a look, and Tong Aino understood, taking Connie and exiting second.
Tong Airui glanced at Ai Ni sitting on the other side. Seeing that she was also looking at him, he mouthed, "My wife and I are leaving too."
Ai Ni watched her brother and sister-in-law leave, nudged You Jia, and asked, "Everyone’s gone, what should we do?"
You Jia squeezed her hand tightly. "No matter what happens, we cannot leave. Otherwise, the guests will be in chaos. Let’s watch the performance first, and then we’ll leave."
Ai Ni nodded.
Tong Yao and Long Che were anxiously waiting for her son. When they saw him co out, they hurried over. "What happened?"
"Shiqing is in Bert’s chamber," Tong Airui said in frustration through gritted teeth. "Bert may have slept with Shiqing."
Tong Yao’s head imdiately felt heavy. "How is that possible? Bert knows full well what kind of temperant Shiqing has. How could he still..."
"Didn’t I say it? Out of all the choices, you picked the worst one," Long Che said angrily, the veins on his forehead pulsating.
"Let’s not talk about this for now. Bert ca for our family’s affairs. Muta isn’t here, so we need to support Royce," Tong Yao said, cutting him off before he could continue, and then quickly headed toward the chamber.
Long Che clenched his fists tightly and followed behind.
Tong Aino turned to Tong Airui. "Mom has spoken; let’s head over too!"
Tong Airui narrowed his eyes slightly. "I really can’t stand dealing with these ssy things!"
Yi Luowa tugged at his hand. "Mom is right. Now that sothing like this has happened, we need to support Aunt. Otherwise, if things escalate, we won’t be able to explain anything to Muta when we return."
"Let’s go," Tong Airui said reluctantly, taking a step forward before stopping again. He turned his head toward Yi Luowa. "Should I carry you over?"
"At a ti like this? I can walk myself," Yi Luowa gave him a push.
Bert’s chamber was packed with people.
Everyone stood silently waiting in the outer room.
When Long Che and the others arrived, the servants had just delivered clean clothing inside.
From the bedroom ca the sound of clothing rustling and Shiqing sobbing.
Royce looked at Tong Yao, her eyes red, almost breaking into tears. Tong Yao quickly supported her and patted her hand in comfort.
Ni Lu had already cried herself into a stupor. This child causing trouble was one thing—after all, she gave birth to her. But today’s incident was way too serious. If it got out, how could she possibly get married in the future?
Tong Yao looked at Ni Lu with pity. She had already been worried enough over the past few weeks, and now this incident was piling on top—how could she carry on?
"Ni Lu..." Tong Yao walked over and gently patted her shoulder.
"Sis-in-law, I can’t live anymore..." Ni Lu broke down, throwing herself into Tong Yao’s arms and crying uncontrollably.
"Mom—" Shiqing cried as she ran out.
The gaze of everyone in the room turned to her.
Ni Lu released Tong Yao, turned, and looked at Shiqing, who had been reduced to tears. She bit her lip and, just as Shiqing threw herself at her, raised her hand and slapped her.
Shiqing froze in shock from the slap, clutching her face, and sobbed indignantly. "Mom, you hit ! I’m already so humiliated, and you still hit !"
Jack stood with a grim face between the mother and daughter, cutting off their eye contact. "What happened exactly? Why were you in Bert’s room?"
"Dad—I had good intentions! Bert and Lu Jia drank too much. I was worried they’d have headaches, so I asked the kitchen to prepare hangover soup. Lu Jia drank his and fell asleep, but who knew Bert would do this!"
Shiqing, clutching her reddened cheek, shouted at the crowd, "I know you all hate , but I really want to turn over a new leaf. I want to work hard to make you accept . Would you all just give a chance?"
Bert leaned against the door fra, rubbing his forehead incessantly. He had no recollection of what had happened earlier. It was Shiqing’s scream that snapped him awake. Upon waking, he found himself stark naked in the bed with Shiqing.
"Bert!" Royce coldly looked at him. "What on earth happened?"
Bert straightened his posture, furrowing his brows. "I want to know what happened too."
Shiqing gave Bert a glance and suddenly rushed toward the edge of the table. Luckily, Jack reacted quickly and grabbed her.
Shiqing struggled violently, "Dad, let die! Anyway, staying alive only brings sha to you all. This life’s debt of gratitude for raising —I’ll repay in my next life."
"Jack, let her die! I’ve had enough!" Ni Lu said, fiercely prying Jack’s hand away. "Pretend I was never her mother. Let her die! Let her die! Let her die..."
