Chen Xishan’s surgery is over.
Her life was saved, but her legs were not; a high amputation.
She will have to live in a wheelchair from now on.
When the nurse pushed her out of the operating room, she had not woken up.
VIP hospital room.
Huo Shaoting stood by the bedside, watching Chen Xishan.
The two children were crying incessantly.
Huo Shaoting was troubled and restless, being a man, he wasn’t good at comforting children.
Miss Yan placed her hand on his shoulder, considerately saying, "Shaoting, you stay and take care of things here. I’ll take the two kids ho first! Brother Ling has school tomorrow, and Brother Ji should be getting to bed."
A softness filled Huo Shaoting’s heart.
He hadn’t expected his wife to be so understanding, his throat tightened: "Yanyan!"
Miss Yan reached out a finger to his lips.
She whispered, "I understand, Shaoting! Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of Brother Ling and Brother Ji, and I’ll hand them over to their mom when she’s better."
Huo Shaoting was touched, though it wasn’t the ti to express it.
He softly embraced his wife’s shoulder.
Then, he arranged for the kids to go ho with Miss Yan, and since there wasn’t a servant specifically to look after the kids at ho, he asked Lu’er to go along.
Lu’er was quite timid.
It was only when Huo Shaoting ntioned her that she dared to cover her mouth and cry.
Miss Yan sensed sothing was amiss, but she kept quiet and silently took them ho.
The Huo family’s house was large enough to accommodate a few more people.
After settling the kids, Miss Yan called over Lu’er.
Assuming her role as the lady of the house, she questioned Lu’er, "How did your mistress get hit by a car? Lu’er, you weren’t truthful in the hospital."
Lu’er was slippery by nature.
She initially tried to muddle through.
But Miss Yan was different now, as if she had been guided by a wise person.
Lu’er had no choice but to confess the truth.
She recounted the incident at the other courtyard to Miss Yan.
Then she added, "After we left Third Young Master He’s house and were walking into the street, my mistress and I ran into soone."
Miss Yan pressed further, "Who was it?"
Lu’er softly replied, "Yingzi."
Miss Yan knew who Yingzi was; she was the plaything Chen Xishan had given to He Jitang back in the day!
Miss Yan then asked what happened with Yingzi.
Lu’er’s gaze beca fixed, looking as if she had been frightened.
Miss Yan handed her a bottle of iced water, and she finally murmured, "She went crazy! She chased after my mistress, saying over and over again that if it weren’t for my mistress, she wouldn’t have ended up like this... Saying soone nad Chen Er wanted to harm her!"
Miss Yan was taken aback, unable to speak for a long ti.
Lu’er softly said, "Miss Yan, my mistress has already suffered enough, please... I beg you to let it go."
Miss Yan gave a faint smile.
She told Lu’er, "Stay here in peace! When your mistress is discharged, Shaoting will arrange things for you."
Lu’er wanted to kneel and apologize.
Miss Yan didn’t allow it, speaking softly, "You’ve been quite loyal to her."
...
A couple of days later, Huo Shaoting returned from the hospital.
He had been caring for the patient for two days, looking slightly haggard, his clothes were crumpled.
Miss Yan felt imnse pity.
She personally prepared his bath, added so bath salts to help him relax.
After finishing, she walked back to the bedroom.
Huo Shaoting stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, smoking, his brows furrowed, looking unhappy.
"What’s the matter?" Miss Yan embraced him from behind, gently asking.
Huo Shaoting patted her hand.
He said, "It’s nothing, just a bit tired!"
Miss Yan urged him to take a bath.
Huo Shaoting turned around, gazing deeply into her eyes.
Miss Yan softly said, "Get cleaned up and then we’ll talk, two days without seeing each other, you’re quite a sight."
Her words were filled with concern, how could Huo Shaoting not know?
He held his wife’s delicate chin, huskily asking, "Missed these days?"
Miss Yan blushed, softly humd in response.
Yet he wouldn’t let her off, wrapped his arms around her waist and teased, "What did you miss, huh?"
