Chapter 9. Mother-in-law: My Daughter and Son-in-law Are Remarried!
She raised her phone.
After the yacht sailed into the sparkling blue sea, Bai Xiyi took a few selfies and snapped so photos with her girlfriends.
Finally, she posted the pictures to her social dia feed.
[Out on the sea, feeling fabulous!]
A caption paired with a slightly exaggerated expression quickly drew a flood of comnts under her post.
“Wow, you went out to sea without inviting !”
“Looks like you’re in a great mood today!”
“Your friends are all pretty, but you’re still the prettiest!”
“Wow! Xiyi, you look stunning!”
“…”
The comnts section was filled with praise.
Reading these ssages, Bai Xiyi felt even more delighted.
Sitting on the yacht with her friends, enjoying the sea breeze and eating salad, she couldn’t have been more relaxed.
However, in an ordinary neighborhood in Shanghai, a still-charming middle-aged woman in her fifties scrolled through Bai Xiyi’s social dia, then checked Ye Chen’s feed. Her face lit up with excitent.
“Haha! Old man, co look! Xiyi just posted about going out to sea!”
Nearby, a bespectacled man with an intellectual air lifted his eyelids.
“What’s so special about going out to sea?”
The woman huffed. “What if I told you Ah Chen just posted about going out to sea too? And the two posts were only a minute or two apart?”
Clang!
The man imdiately jumped up from his chair, snatched the phone, and frowned at the screen.
Then, a satisfied smile spread across his face.
“Hmph! That stubborn girl finally ca to her senses.”
The woman snorted. “It’s all your fault! You spoiled her rotten since she was little, just look at that princess attitude of hers! Ah Chen has such a good temper, he’s capable, handso, and patient, and she still managed to drive him away!”
The man chuckled awkwardly, scratching his head. “Can you really bla entirely? Besides, hasn’t she already co around and made up with Ah Chen?”
The woman sneered and glanced at the phone again.
Then she scolded, “And you still have the nerve to talk! Look at your daughter, does she have no sense?
“She finally reconciles with Ah Chen, and they go out to sea together, but she brings along all these other won? Doesn’t she know how attractive a man like Ah Chen is to other won? Is she trying to create problems for herself?”
The man gulped quietly and nodded in agreent.
“You’re right! That girl really has no brains. How could she bring so many won along on a trip with Ah Chen?”
The woman exited the ssaging app, opened her contacts, and dialed Bai Xiyi’s number.
On the yacht,
Ding-ding-dong,
Bai Xiyi’s phone rang.
She glanced at the screen and imdiately felt a headache coming on.
“Xiyi, it’s your mom’s call,” one of her friends reminded her.
Bai Xiyi pressed her lips together and shook her head irritably.
“Forget it, we’re here to have fun today. Whatever it is, we can talk about it later!”
She hung up and quickly sent a text back:
[Mom, let’s talk when I get back. I’m out having fun right now!]
Lin izhi read the ssage, her face twisting in anger.
“Hey! Old Bai, look at the daughter you raised!”
“That brat doesn’t respect at all!”
“Hmph! And Xiyan, that other brat, just up and left for abroad without a word and hasn’t even co back to visit us!”
“Ungrateful! Neither of them gives any peace!”
Bai Cheng’s lips twitched, but he didn’t dare defend his daughters.
Instead, he echoed, “You’re right! Those two ungrateful girls, not even bothering to visit us!”
“And Ah Chen too, after getting back together, he should’ve called us right away! How could he just quietly go out to sea without a word?”
“No! I’m calling him to warn him not to get any funny ideas!”
He pulled out his phone, but Lin izhi smacked it out of his hand.
“You really are a clueless old scholar.”
“The two of them just made up, and now you, as the father-in-law, want to call and nag at Ah Chen? That’ll just make him resent you!”
“Besides, it’s obvious our daughter invited those won. Why are you calling Ah Chen? Are you out of your mind?”
Bai Cheng shrank back, not daring to argue.
Lin izhi sighed.
“Fine! Children have their own lives to live! Let them figure it out themselves!”
“I’m going out for a beauty treatnt. You stay ho and watch the house!”
With that, she changed her clothes, grabbed her purse, and headed out.
Humming a tune, her mood was clearly overjoyed.
As she walked, neighbors greeted her curiously.
“Elder Sister Lin, what’s got you so happy?”
“Oh, it’s just that my troubleso daughter and son-in-law remarried.”
“Xiao Lin, you’re so cheerful, going to dance at the square?”
“No, no, I’m off for a beauty treatnt. My daughter and son-in-law remarried, and I can’t let myself look shabby and embarrass my son-in-law.”
“Elder Sister Lin, it’s been a while! Oh dear, your skin’s looking a bit rough, you really need so work!”
“Do it, do it! Whatever you suggest! My eldest daughter remarried her husband, today’s a happy day!”
“…”
Convinced that her daughter and son-in-law had reconciled, Lin izhi was in such high spirits that she told everyone she t.
Her joy was written all over her face.
Before long, most of the elderly folks in the neighborhood had heard the news.
Their reactions were mixed.
“Well, who’d have thought they’d remarry!”
“That Bai family girl might be foolish, but Sister Lin is sharp. Ye Chen is such a catch, there’s no way they’d let a son-in-law like that slip away!”
“Tsk, I was just asking around to introduce my daughter to Xiao Ye.”
“Your daughter? Please. Would Xiao Ye even look her way? My niece would be a better match, she’s a Peking University graduate!”
“Hah! A Peking University graduate ans nothing if she’s plain-looking. Do you think Xiao Ye would settle for that?”
“Pah! The ancients said, ‘Marry a virtuous wife.’ What do you know?”
“Old fool, did you forget the next line? ‘But take a concubine for beauty!’”
“Hey! Are you looking for a fight?”
“…”
