Chapter 32. “You Didn’t Even Have a Wedding?”
After playing two more rounds of gas, Ye Chen walked out of the study.
Outside, Bai Xiyan had just finished her phone call.
“Hubby, it’s settled! We’re eting at the Sheshan campsite tomorrow morning to catch up, then camping overnight to watch the teor shower and sunrise the next day. Does that work for you?”
Ye Chen nodded indifferently. “Sure, it’s the weekend anyway—no work for .”
Bai Xiyan giggled, wrapped her arms around his, and called Qin Banruo to confirm their shopping plans for the afternoon after next. Once that was settled, she hung up.
Then—shower.
Howork.
Lights out.
Sleep.
anwhile.
Among Bai Xiyi’s circle of girlfriends, the prettiest one, Nini, hugged her phone and sent a WeChat ssage:
“Girls! The news says there’s going to be a teor shower at Sheshan the day after tomorrow! Should we go?!”
Instantly, the group chat exploded with replies.
“A teor shower? That’ll be gorgeous—count in!”
“ too! Let’s head up tomorrow and camp overnight!”
“Roll call! Who’s coming?”
…
“OK, looks like everyone’s in! Let’s divvy up the prep work.”
“I’ll bring the tents!”
“I’ll handle the cooking gear.”
“I’ll pack the food.”
“I’ve got the telescope.”
…
In under two minutes, the tasks were assigned.
Bai Xiyi hugged her phone, her mood lifting.
“A teor shower!”
“I’ll make a wish—for Ye Chen to go b—no, for Ye Chen to divorce that brat Xiyan!”
Alone now, she let her true feelings show, resentnt twisting her face.
She hated Ye Chen—but she also hated Bai Xiyan.
If not for her, maybe she could’ve reconciled with Ye Chen!
“Whatever. Ti to sleep.”
Shaking her head, she pulled on an eye mask and lay down.
The next morning.
Ye Chen and Bai Xiyan packed their camping gear and drove to Sheshan in his beloved G-Class.
By 10:30 a.m., they arrived at the campsite.
“Wifey, go ahead and greet your classmates. I’ll hit the restroom first.”
Ye Chen got out and headed for the toilets while Bai Xiyan skipped over to her gathered classmates.
“Xiyan! Long ti no see—you’ve gotten even prettier!”
“Seriously, what skincare do you use? Your complexion is flawless!”
“Zhang Kai, why are you hiding now that Xiyan’s here?”
“I heard you were at Harvard—when did you get back?”
…
As Fudan’s forr campus belle, Bai Xiyan instantly beca the center of attention.
The girls buzzed around her enviously, while the n lit up with excitent—and a hint of restless ambition.
A well-dressed man in his twenties spoke up politely.
“Xiyan, how long are you staying in Shanghai? After two years abroad, you must’ve missed a lot. I’ve got free ti—if you want a tour guide, I’m happy to help.”
“Xiyan, did you know? Zhang Kai’s now a partner at Luyan Law Firm! He’s won several high-profile cases this year—he’s basically Shanghai’s star lawyer now.”
“Yeah, successful career, great family background—if he hadn’t rejected , I might be ‘Mrs. Zhang’ by now.”
Two girls giggled, playing wingman.
Bai Xiyan smiled politely but awkwardly. “I’ve finished my studies at Harvard, so I’ll be in Shanghai for a while.”
Zhang Kai’s eyes sparkled.
“Really? That’s perfect! Luyan’s actually short-handed right now. With your credentials, you’d be a great fit as a partner.”
The other classmates gasped enviously.
Luyan was Shanghai’s top law firm. Becoming a partner there was every lawyer’s dream.
But Bai Xiyan shook her head. “Sorry, I’m setting up my own firm. Thanks, though.”
Zhang Kai blinked, then pressed on. “Oh? Then what about ? Could I join your firm?”
His persistence made Bai Xiyan frown.
“Sorry, but my husband’s handling the setup, so—”
She trailed off, sparing his pride.
But the n—especially Zhang Kai—looked like they’d been struck by lightning.
“Wh—what? Husband?! When did you get married?!”
“Did you marry soone in the U.S.?”
Even the girls gasped.
“You’re married?!”
“Since when?!”
“Why didn’t we know?!”
Just as Bai Xiyan started to explain—
Tap. Tap. Tap.
Footsteps approached. Ye Chen walked up and slid an arm around her waist.
“Wifey—”
Bai Xiyan exhaled in relief and grinned at him. Then, cheerfully, she announced:
“Everyone, this is my husband—Ye Chen!”
Turning to him, she added, “Hubby, these are my Fudan classmates. This is Zhang Kai, Ye Qiling, and—”
She introduced them one by one.
Ye Chen shook hands with each, smiling warmly.
By the ti the greetings ended, her classmates were still processing the shock.
“Oh my god, Xiyan—this is your husband?!”
“So handso! He looks like a celebrity!”
“You two are such a perfect match!”
“And his aura—definitely not an average guy.”
“Obviously! Xiyan’s husband couldn’t be ordinary.”
The girls gushed, while the peacock-like n deflated, hearts broken.
These were all high-achievers who didn’t follow livestreams, so they didn’t know the details of Bai Xiyan and Ye Chen’s relationship.
But that didn’t stop the n from shooting him envious looks.
“Damn it! Soone beat us to her?!”
“Who is this guy?!”
“Xiyan’s actually married?!”
In the crowd, Zhang Kai gritted his teeth, forcing a smile.
“Bro, you’re sothing else. Xiyan’s the most beautiful girl Fudan’s ever had, and she married you.”
“But co on, wasn’t it a bit unfair? Marrying our campus queen and not even throwing a wedding?”
The atmosphere instantly turned awkward.
