Gu Yao clicked on several reports in succession, patiently scrolling through hundreds of comnts but still couldn’t figure out what was happening at that mont.
How badly was Shangguan Yu injured, how did the surgery go, was he out of danger—none of it was clear.
This is a military website, where all the military-related reports have been verified before being released, with no room for fabrication. Yet, at this mont, Gu Yao desperately hoped this report was fake, concocted or exaggerated by unscrupulous journalists and authors for attention and traffic, but that was impossible.
Because they wouldn’t dare.
Gu Yao exited the website, turned to the contacts, and found Shangguan Yu’s phone number.
This number had been in her contacts for two years now; even when she decided to let him go and went abroad, she couldn’t bear to delete it.
She rembered thickening her skin while asking Shangguan Yu for his private number, but he didn’t give her it. She then asked Shangguan Yu’s adjutant for it, but still didn’t get it, and finally got it from her big brother.
When she first got the number, she held her phone like a fool in her room, thinking about what to say after getting through. She practiced over and over how to start without sounding abrupt, but ultimately, when she mustered the courage to call, Shangguan Yu directly hung up upon knowing who she was.
She was stunned at the ti, couldn’t believe her call was hung up just like that by him. She didn’t expect Shangguan Yu, who was well-educated, to be so rude and unchivalrous, neither publicly nor privately should he have directly hung up her call.
To know, she hadn’t even managed to say her na; as soon as she opened her mouth with, "I’m Gu Li’s sister," the other side directly hung up.
Unwillingly, she redialed, but was never answered. In the following two years, Shangguan Yu never picked up her calls.
She had no idea how many careful calls she made to Shangguan Yu in these two years, only knowing not a single one was answered.
Every ti after a long wait, all she got was the disappointing reply: "The number you dialed is temporarily unavailable, please try again later."
She thought if it weren’t for the Gu Family’s sake, Shangguan Yu would have long blocked her.
So sotis, after being frustrated by Shangguan Yu, she’d return ho feeling unwilling and angry, muttering curses at Shangguan Yu while boldly dialing his number again and again.
She only did this to vent, but once the anger subsided, she wished so much that he would pick up.
At tis, she truly admired Shangguan Yu’s patience; her calls often occupied the line for an afternoon, yet he never blocked her and would never ntion this during his monts of impatience caused by her.
However, Gu Yao had no idea how many tis Shangguan Yu was just like her, holding the phone like a fool, watching the endlessly ringing phone, tornted by the desire to answer but daring not.
She made calls all afternoon, while he held the phone listening to the ringing, staring at that string of numbers all afternoon.
Watching the call end automatically, only to start ringing anew until Gu Yao stopped.
Knowing he wouldn’t answer, Gu Yao still dialed the number.
"Beep beep..."
After an anxious and tortured wait, it ultimately changed to that so familiar cold female voice.
"Sorry, the number you dialed is temporarily unavailable, please try again later."
This sentence, over the past two years, was heard countless tis because of Shangguan Yu.
