Zayne kicked the door open and stepped out. He tried to put her down, Everlyn however, wrapped her legs around his waist, lips drawing a line of grin.

"You think I’m that easy?" she questioned, seeming offended. "What makes you think I’m just going to let you pick up like that and put out here?"

"So, what?"

His eyes crinkled along with his amusent.

"You think this is going to stop ? That I can’t get you off if I want to?"

"I want to see you try. I grew up with two assholes for a brother. Don’t think that I’m that easy to deal with."

She reached for his shoulder, grabbing and gumming herself to him. Her hold was tight, fingers locked. Her voice brewed into his ear, "I’m not going to whatever guest room you ntioned, Zayne. Since I might lose, I don’t see what’s wrong with getting used to you. Married couples are supposed to share a bed, I believe it’s best we start now, don’t you think?"

She laughed softly. "See, the only option is to share this room of yours with , and that doesn’t exclude your bed. You’re not getting off you, not unless I want to, and the only way that’s happening is if you take back in there and close this door."

Zayne gripped the back of her shirt. He pulled, to rip her off him, she, however, held tight, grunting.

"This is pointless." She glared daggers at him. "Even if you do get off you, I’ll break this door. You better choose wisely!"

The man dropped his arms to his sides, throwing his head back to face the ceiling, eyes shut.

"You’ve got to be kidding ," he breathed out, stepping back inside and closing the door.

He walked to the bed, peeled her off him, and threw her into the soft material. "We don’t have to sleep in the sa bed. But since you want it so badly, you can have the bed."

"aning what?"

"I’ll have the guest room."

"Oh co on, do you seriously not want to share the bed with ?" Evelyn got off the bed and followed behind him. "It’s not like I’m going to bite you."

Zayne reached for the door handle. "At this rate, you might! It’s been what, one day, one day, and you’re driving out of my mind."

"Does that an you no longer wish to marry ? If so—"

He turned, grasping her chin.

She blinked at him and he leaned in, saying, "Listen here, Evelyn, I agree you do have a talent for getting on my nerves. But if you think this little act of yours is going to make let you go...it’s all but wishful thinking. You don’t know . This is far too little to make impulsive."

She forced her head up, eting his penetrating gaze. "Never say never, peacock."

He physically felt himself twitching at the na.

Peacock...

A look of disgust he couldn’t hide crossed his face and he turned, pulling the door open.

Evelyn knew the na got on his nerves, but that only made things better. The goal here was to drive him insane—make him miserable while at it. He’s got to be the one to lose, not her.

Wearing a satisfied smile, she followed behind him, walking down the hall. At so point, he ca to a stop and she did as well.

He walked.

She did as well.

He stopped.

She did.

Zayne’s hands clenched. "What are you doing?"

"Sticking to my future husband. What’s the problem?"

He glanced at her fra behind him and she wiggled her brows at him.

"Hi..." she drawled.

The man dragged a palm down his face. Maybe if he closed the door quick enough, he’d escape her.

And so, he hurried his steps.

Evelyn ran after him, slipping into the room before he could slam the door shut. It closed with a heavy thud, the sound piercing.

He quickly looked at her.

"Are you fucking with ?"

"I don’t know what you’re talking about." She shrugged.

Fuck, she was annoying. If she wasn’t his mate, he’d tape her to a wall or sothing and leave her right there.

He’d only t her once with her father, and he’s sparked with her. She was his mate, and naturally, he’d want the woman that was his. He didn’t care that she was human.

When Sage Darkwood had ntioned he was going to pen her down as his successor, he knew her siblings were going to tear her apart and he was the only one who would be able to protect her.

It’d been one of the reasons having her as his wife was all he wanted in return for assisting Sage. But he also wanted her because she was his mate.

He, however, didn’t think she was this kind of a headache.

"What are you thinking so hard about, Zayne?"

"You talk a lot, do you know that?" he said.

She t his gaze head-on. "That’s one of the perks of having as a wife. It’s all up to you. If you want soone quieter, you can have that. All you have to do is—"

"Go to sleep." Zayne walked past her towards the bed.

She turned, staring as he got into the mattress, wrapping his toned arms around the pillow he had his head on.

She slipped in next to him, keeping her eyes on his face.

A frown was etched on his forehead.

"Quit looking at , you little shit."

He turned to the other side, facing away from her.

Evelyn bit down at the grin that threatened her lips.

This was going to be easy.

Oh, he wouldn’t be able to survive two months of her.

"Goodnight, peacock," she said with the widest smirk on her face. "Sweet dreams."
