Kelly’s POV
Snow is fine now. The doctor said it was just a fever and nothing complicated. And although I don’t want to leave her in the hospital, I need to go to work today. Besides, today I’m gonna et the person that will represent in the shareholders’ eting at my dad’s company. I won’t allow Klay to reign in my father’s company anymore.
“I’m just gonna et soone,” I told Mary, whose forehead imdiately creased.
“Hmm...” She humd suspiciously and smirked.
I just shook my head and grabbed my bag before I walked towards the elevator. As long as I’m not setting her on a date with Luke, she won’t stop teasing . I know she’d shut her mouth once she faced the guy she likes.
I ca early to the karaoke bar where I asked to et her. She’s a party animal, so no one would suspect that she’s eting soone here.
While I was sitting on the couch, I was scrolling on my phone, reading articles about Klay and his leadership. The public doesn’t know what kind of a person he is. The fact that he’s a leader of a mafia organization remained a secret to the public. No one knows. And he’s powerful enough to hide his real identity.
“You’re so early for soone who doesn’t need help.”
I lifted my face and looked her in the eyes. “I didn’t say I don’t need your help.”
She scoffed and lit a cigarette. “I didn’t feel the need of help when you ignored my ssages.”
I shook my head and poured a drink on hers and my glass. “You could’ve just stated your na on that ssage.”
“You have no sense of thrill.”
I just smirked and crossed my legs. “I need you to represent at the eting next week, Emily.”
Right! The sender of the anonymous ssage was Emily. I was right when I thought it was her. No one, except for her, knows what happened to . And when I ca back, she imdiately learned it all because she’s monitoring all these years. I also learned that she’s been luring Klay’s private investigator and has been playing with him about my whereabouts.
I don’t have the power to do that and Emily’s family is powerful enough to play with Klay like that. If not because of her, Klay would’ve found long ago.
“You can just reveal yourself. That would shock him.”
I shook my head. “I can’t. Not now. You know him, Emily. Klay can get away with anything. Even if I successfully cut his limb, he can find a way to rise again and make my plans backfire on . I can’t let that happen.”
“What about your father’s case? You can use that to put him behind bars.”
“I will really do that, but while doing that, I need to find evidence that could prove that he’s the leader of a syndicate. That would definitely cut his wings and he won’t be able to rise from the dirt anymore.”
Emily nodded slowly and sipped on her drink before she smirked at . “Smart. So, that’s all I need to do.”
I nodded. “Yes.”
She cocked an eyebrow, staring into my eyes. “That’s all? Where’s the thrill in that?”
“The thrill is you’re gonna anger Klay with what you’re about to do.”
She chuckled and lifted her glass again and sipped on it. I grabbed my glass and lifted it in the air.
“Congrats on your wedding, by the way. How is it living with a devil?”
She rolled her eyes and shook her head. “How did you last a few months living with him?”
I took a deep breath and rested my back on the couch. I massaged my neck and stared at the ceiling.
“He loves ,” I answered in between the deafening silence. “But his love was too toxic. It ruined .”
I squeezed my eyes closed and rembered the happy mont I had with Klay. He was caring and soft to . But that was all. He ruined my father’s life and mine too. I couldn’t forget it. I can’t forgive him for doing that to us. Added to the fact that he planned to harm my child and I know that it’s because it was Pierce’s child.
“He’s obsessed with you, Kelly. He’s using my father’s connection to find you. He’s now powerful and I don’t believe that he hasn’t found out about the identity of the new shareholder of your father’s company. I know that he knows it’s you.”
I looked at Emily again. “I know. That’s why I rushed my plans.”
She smirked and shook her head. “He was so in love with you that he didn’t sabotage your plans. He must be thinking you’ll still accept him if he lets you do this.”
I pressed my lips together. I know that. I definitely know that. I’m not an evil person who can do everything without worrying about other people. The fact that I can’t do this alone doesn’t an I’m incapable, but because I still lack so things—like evilness within.
Emily pulled herself up and looked at . “I’m leaving now. Wait for my ssage before you leave this place. Klay’s n are always following around.”
I looked her in the eyes and smiled. “Thank you, Emily.”
She winked at . “I’m doing this for your child.”
A smile remained plastered on my lips even after Emily disappeared from my sight. I grabbed my glass again and sipped on my drinks. Emily will not let down. I know it. I hated her at first because I see her as my enemy, soone who’s like Lexi—self-centered and all the negative, but I was wrong. Emily could be my friend and she proved it to when she ca on the night I was losing hope.
When I got to the hospital, Snow was sitting on the bed while playing with her doll. Luke was sitting on the chair beside the bed while scrolling on his phone. I walked towards them silently and my forehead creased after I saw what Luke was doing on his phone. He’s looking at the photo on my old social dia account. It was a photo of when I was still in college.
“Mommy!” Snow’s bubbly voice startled Luke. He accidentally threw his phone on the bed but he was quick to collect it back.
I smiled at Snow, pretending not to see anything. I don’t know why Luke was looking at my picture but if the reason in my head is right, then it justifies his loyalty.
“How’s my pumpkin?”
I sat on the bed beside her and hugged her. I looked at Luke and he couldn’t look in the eyes.
“I’m gonna leave now, Miss Kelly.”
I nodded. “Take care, Luke.”
I watched him as he left and when I looked at Snow, I thought he’s watching Luke either but I realized she wasn’t. She was looking at the father and daughter that walked past the room before Luke closed the door.
I bit my bottom lip. She’s now curious about the other kids having a father.
“Mommy, do I have a daddy?”
