Kelly’s POV
Pierce ca back with a cake. I smiled when he prepared it and gave a piece on the plate. He was staring at my face again and since he’s been doing that all this ti, I didn’t confront him about it.
“Kelly...”
“Hmm?” I drank the water he gave .
“I saw Klay Carver.”
My chew slowed down until it completely stopped. I lifted my face and looked at him worriedly.
“Are you okay? Did he say or do sothing?”
He shook his head and extended his arm, giving a flash drive. “He wants to give this to you.”
My forehead creased as I dropped my gaze to the small and black rectangular thing on his palm.
“What’s that?”
He shrugged his shoulders and gently put it in my hand. “I’ll ask my assistant to bring my laptop or ipad here.”
I nodded and looked at the flash drive in my hand before I looked into his eyes again. “Did he say sothing bad? Did he...”
He held my hand, stopping . He smiled and caressed my cheek with his other hand.
“Don’t worry, Kels. He didn’t co to fight. He wants to...check on you.”
I blinked thrice before I nodded and sighed. “He said he regretted what he did to . Should I...believe him?”
“Can you feel his sincerity?”
I bit my bottom lip because of his question. I can feel it but...I’m afraid of trusting Klay again.
“I know I shouldn’t compare but if you forgave even after the cruel things I did to you because you felt my sincerity, why can’t you do the sa to him?”
My heart ached. He was right. If we look at it, it’s just the sa. The pain they brought to was the sa but I forgave Pierce. So why can’t I bring myself to forgive Klay? Was it because I expected too much from him because I know he gave all of him to ? Or was it because he also hurt the little child in who should rely on him as my step brother?
“Forgiveness is up to you, Kelly. If your heart wants to give him the forgiveness he’s seeking and if it will make you feel better...then forgive him.”
I stared into his beautiful brown eyes. He’s always so kind even to the people who don’t deserve his kindness.
*** Pierce’s POV
Kelly wants to forgive him. I can see it in her eyes but she’s afraid that he’ll hurt and disappoint her again. I can’t stand seeing that look in her eyes. I feel...guilty and pained.
I asked dad to visit the police station to get an update about the shooter. I was waiting for him outside Kelly’s hospital room when I saw Emily walking towards .
“How’s Kelly?”
I stared at her as dad’s words crossed my mind again.
There’s a traitor among the people I trust. I don’t know who exactly is the traitor but I have to be careful.
“Pierce!” Emily snapped her fingers before my eyes and flipped her hair.
“She’s resting,” I said coldly.
She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. “You don’t want to visit my friend? Really?”
I sucked my breath and clenched my jaws. “I’ll be honest with you, Emily. You’re one of the people I’m doubting.”
Her forehead creased. “Doubting? You an soone’s a traitor?”
I gritted my teeth and pressed my lips together. She took a deep sigh and looked at her shoes.
I don’t know if she’s trying to hide her eyes or she’s thinking. Whatever it is, I don’t care.
She sighed and grabbed her bag. She gave a mory card as she spoke. “I copied the voice recording in this mory card. I’ll try to collect more evidence like video or photo so when she decides to file a case against Attorney Lee and Connor Foster, they won’t be able to get away.”
I lifted my chin with a blank face. “Are you only saying this to get away from my suspicions?”
“I don’t care about your suspicions, Pierce. It was Kelly I care about.”
She put the mory card on my palm and combed her hair using her fingers. “I’ll be gone for a while.”
My brow shot up. “For what reason?”
She sighed. “I’ll try to find Matt Foster.”
“What?”
“I need to find him, Pierce. We need him to testify against his father.”
I shook my head. “You can just ask your n to search for him, Emily. Why do you have to do this on your own?”
She laughed sarcastically. “Are you sure you’re doubting ?”
“You’re Kelly’s friend,” I answered. “She’ll be devastated if she loses you.”
“She won’t lose this way, Pierce. But if Matt dies this way...she’ll really lose .”
“What do you an?”
She shook her head and sighed before she turned her back and started walking away. My forehead creased as I stared at her back.
Dad appeared right after Emily disappeared from my sight. I sighed and shook my head before I dropped my gaze to the mory card she gave .
I don’t know how to tell Kelly about this or...should I tell her? She’d be worried.
“Pierce...”
I lifted my face. “Dad.”
“Follow to the chapel. I’ll talk to you about sothing.”
I nodded and told the guards to keep Kelly safe before I followed dad.
When I entered the chapel, he was staring at the altar before he faced with a serious face.
“The shooter is dead.”
My lips parted in shock. “What?”
He sighed. “You can’t trust the police. You can’t trust so influential people in this country. The only people you can trust are those who once belonged to the world of evil but chose to find the right path.”
“You an...”
“Team up with people more powerful than the legal authorities. Emily and Klay Carver share the sa goal as you. They’re your allies.”
