Matt’s POV
I was cleaning my own wound on the cheek when mom went down the stairs and gasped upon seeing our faces.
The new house was huge and good but I don’t like it here. I still like to stay in the province rather than in this crowded city.
“What happened to the both of you?” He went to and touched my face before she checked Mason’s bruised eyebrow and lip.
“It’s nothing, mom,” I answered, not wanting to make this an issue.
“Nothing? That’s not nothing, Matt! Who did this to you? Huh?”
I shook my head. “We’re no longer kids, mom.”
“It’s Kelly’s boyfriend. The President of ADE.” Mason said and looked at with a hardened expression.
I hissed.
“That bitch again?” Mom scread. Her neck and face were red. Tsk!
“Did you still visit Ava’s grave?” Mom growled as she looked at .
I stared at her blankly. “Yes.”
“Matt!” She scread. “I told you don’t ever try to see them!”
I shook my head. “I just wanna know what kind of person they are.”
“Kelly is a gold digger, Matt! She’s stealing everything that belongs to us!”
I pulled myself up and faced her. “Mom, we can settle this without ruining the family—”
“She’s not part of the family, Matt! Who knows if she ‘s even Eva’s biological daughter? What if she’s just pretending?”
“Didn’t Attorney Lee confirm it? We’re listening during the reading of the last will and testant, mom. It was clearly said there that Eva Foster’s daughter should inherit the family business and all the properties of the Foster.”
‘Then what about us?” She spat back. I gritted my teeth. I never wanted wealth. I want a simple life but my family doesn’t have the sa opinion on this. They want the company. They want the lands and everything that was under the na of Foster.
“This will just make things worse, mom.”
“That bitch Kelly is making it worse, Matt! Can’t you see? She kicked out father out of the company? Matt, wake up!”
I looked sharply at Mason. “The girl you’re calling a bitch is our cousin, Mason.”
“She’s not! Mom said she might be an impostor—”
“Don’t be ridiculous!” I growled. “Kelly has money. She doesn’t even need the Foster’s wealth.”
“Then why did she steal the company from us?”
I pressed my lips together. I don’t know Kelly’s reasons so I have nothing to say now. I just want to make them realize that Kelly is not an enemy. Clearly, that girl is lonely. She lost both of her parents. Her step brother seed obsessed with her and her stepmother killed her father. I don’t think she’d put herself in a tough situation like this if she doesn’t have reasons.
Mom slowly shook her head, looking at with disappointnt. “I can’t believe you’re taking her side, Matt. You are my son! Your father was aggrieved. You should be siding with us and not defending that woman!”
“I have free will, mom. I will believe what I want to believe and in my eyes...Kelly’s not what you’re claiming her to be.”
“MATT!”
I kept my straight face as I walked past Mason and went upstairs. New house, new life? Nah! This is tougher than before. Why are they even fighting over a company? Mom and dad have enough savings. Besides, I have work and Mason too, though that bastard doesn’t like working.
Ah! I should just stay at the ancestral house. That’s the most peaceful place now that my family is in the city.
*** Kelly’s POV
“What will you do now?” Pierce asked worriedly.
I pressed my lips together and took a deep sigh. “I actually don’t know... I don’t know anymore.”
“Why don’t you start getting yourself checked and get so rest. You shouldn’t stress yourself too much.”
I stared at his face. “Can you let Snow stay at your house for the anti?”
He clenched his jaws. “Whatever you want for her, but I’m worried about you too. I can’t just leave you here especially after you told about your situation.”
I smiled and caressed his arm. “I’m fine, Pierce. I still have to work and besides, Emily and Yara are here.”
“Do you want to send Ana back here? So you have another person to rely on?”
I shook my head. “She should stay with Snow.”
He sighed and shook his head. “I’m just really worried.”
“I won’t tell you to stop worrying but I assure you that I will take care of myself. I won’t get hurt.”
“Promise ,” he whispered as he stared into my eyes intensely.
“I promise.”
He moved closer to and gently cupped my cheeks. He rested his forehead against mine and I squeezed my eyes closed at the contact. After all of these, I will tell him everything and will not leave anything. I will accept whatever his reaction would be. Be it anger, pain, disappointnt or what.
The next day, I decided to visit the sunflower plantation of the Fosters. I learned that there’s a helipad at properties of the Fosters in the province so I decided to use a helicopter. It was Emily’s actually and she’s with .
It didn’t take us long until my eyes feasted on the beautiful sunflower farm. Even Emily looked very fascinated because of the beautiful flowers.
I want to know the citation of the farm that’s why I visited here. I’m heiress of the Fosters’ riches but I don’t really need this. I just heard that most of the residents of this province knew my mom’s family. So are even old workers. I’d fish information from them and I’m gonna start now.
“That’s the ancestral house of the Foster family, Miss Kelly. The current housekeeper is the daughter of the previous housekeeper.”
I looked at my bodyguard. “The previous housekeeper knows my mom, right?”
“Yes, miss. According to the information I gathered, she was your mom’s previous nanny.”
I took a deep breath and nodded. I started walking towards the ancestral house. The housekeeper opened the door for and the maids imdiately bowed their heads as soon as they saw . They’re lining up in front of and I admit it makes uncomfortable.
“Good day, Miss Kelly. I am Felicia, the current housekeeper.”
I nodded and gave her a small smile but my smile imdiately faded when I saw the man standing in the middle of the staircase, resting his arm against the railing.
He imdiately flashed a smile after seeing . “Hi, cousin.”
My forehead creased. “What are you doing here, Matt?”
He shrugged his head and started walking down the stairs. He was whistling until he stopped in front of . “The city is toxic and I prefer fresh air. How ‘bout you?”
I gritted my teeth. “I won’t trust you, Matt.”
He glanced behind and smiled. “That’s a good defense. Why don’t you just introduce to the beautiful lady behind you?”
My forehead creased again. I heard Emily’s exaggerated groan.
“Why don’t we get inside now and get straight to our intention of coming here, Kelly? I think this place has beco polluted too. Too bad for the flowers.”
Matt chuckled and looked at again. “I can help, Kelly. I’m not as bad as you think.”
I lifted my chin and looked him straight in the eye. “Prove it, Matt. My trust has been shattered so many tis. Prove to that you will help seek justice for my mother’s death. That way I can trust you.”
His lips parted. It seems like he doesn’t know that there’s foul play in my mother’s death but why was he at my mother’s grave, then? I don’t know his intention, but I will not give him my trust that easily.
