Kelly’s POV
I saw Phoebe sitting on the couch while staring at the opened television. She looked bothered and I felt the burden she’s carrying. If Emily’s hunch was right. That she’s actually in love with Caleb, I don’t know how to make her feel better. All I could say to her was forget about her feelings but who am I to say that when I can’t even forget about my feelings for Pierce. When after all these years...it’s still him.
I sat beside Phoebe, earning her attention. She looked at and turned the television off.
“Did you call your parents?”
She shook her head. “I don’t want them to feel that I have a problem.”
I sighed. “Phoebe, they are your family. You can talk to them.”
“They won’t understand.”
“Pierce will,” I said without even thinking. I guess my instinct was to always trust him and it grew in .
She looked at and smiled sadly. “He understood, but I can’t tell him everything. I’m...afraid of what will happen.”
Fear. It’s always what’s stopping us from doing things we want to do. I can’t bla her. Fear is a strong enemy. It’s unbeatable if we’re not brave enough to fear the consequences.
“What will you do?”
She looked down, played with her fingers and bit her bottom lip. I can see her frustration. Her eyes are mirroring her pain.
“I...” She paused and sucked her breath. “I’m thinking about moving abroad. A-After this school year...I want to transfer school.”
I nodded and held her hand. Sohow, I felt her calming down. “What’s important is you know what to prioritize.”
She looked at . There’s still fear in her eyes. “K-Kelly, I...I gave m-myself to him.”
My heart raced. What? I was taken aback by what she said. I couldn’t take my eyes off of her. I don’t know what to say. I got pregnant with Snow and it’s not part of my plans. Snow makes happy even when she’s unplanned but Phoebe’s a different case. She’s still so young.
I swallowed hard. “Tell he used protection and you visited a doctor for a contraceptive injection.”
She looked down and sobbed. My eyes widened and I felt suffocated.
“I-I was so impulsive. I don’t know what’s gotten into . I just...I just woke up next to him and...oh my God!” She faced and cried harder. “W-What if I get pregnant?”
I pressed my lips together and pulled her closer to . I sucked my breath and caressed her hair. She cried in my chest.
“I d-don’t know what t-to do, Kelly. Dad and mom will get hurt. Pierce will be disappointed. I don’t...I don’t wanna hurt them...”
I hugged her tighter. “Shh! Did you use a pregnancy test already?”
She shook her head. “I-It hasn’t been two weeks s-since it happened. I’m...scared.”
I cupped her cheeks and made her look at . I wiped her tears. “Let’s wait for another week before we get a test, okay? Also observe your nstrual period. Update if you’re late or what, okay?”
She sniffed and nodded. After swallowing hard, she wiped her tears and fixed her hair. I went to the counter and got her a glass of water. She drank it all and put the empty glass on the coffee table before she buried her face in my neck again.
I caressed her hair. “Go and sleep beside Snow. I’ll call your brother to tell him that you’re staying here for tonight.”
“What about you? Where will you sleep?”
I smiled and caressed her hair. “I’ll sleep with Emily. Don’t worry about and sleep beside Snow.”
She nodded and slowly pulled herself up. She brought the glass she used to the sink and washed it before she went to the bedroom. I sighed and took my phone out and dialed Pierce’s number.
[Hello, Kelly?] He answered after two rings.
I pressed my lips together. “Uh, Pierce... Phoebe’s with . She uh...wants to bond with Snow. so... I called to tell you that she wants to stay for tonight.”
[Is she okay?] He sounded so worried and that’s when I realized that he knew sothing. Phoebe must’ve told him sothing but not all of it.
I licked my bottom lip. “She’s okay, Pierce. She’s just...stressed out.”
[Please talk to her, Kels. I’m worried. She has a problem and she won’t tell anything.]
“I’ll talk to her, Pierce. Don’t worry too much.”
I heard him let out a sigh of relief. [Thank you, Kels. I don’t know what to do if you’re not here. She just...won’t tell anything.]
I pulled myself up and rested my back against the kitchen counter. “Pierce...”
[Hmm?] He whispered as if he’s expecting sothing. He also sounds happy and nervous at the sa ti.
“Do you...have any idea about Phoebe’s problem?”
There was a series of deafening silence between us. I won’t tell him anything. I just want to know if he knows sothing.
[The only thing she told was she...gave herself to the man she loves. S-She tried to hide it from but I caught her. Please make her speak, Kels. I-I don’t know if she’s telling the truth when she told she wasn’t forced...I’m...so worried.]
I sighed and nodded. “She wasn’t forced, Pierce. At least she admitted it to . She wanted what happened but she didn’t tell about the...guy”
It’s Caleb. Emily’s words got stuck in my mind and now I think she’s right. It’s Caleb Walter and it’s too complicated because I know that her parents would never allow them if ever Caleb took the responsibility. Phoebe is just 21 years old and Caleb is already 36. Plus Phoebe is still studying.
I’m just praying she won’t get pregnant at a young age.
[I wanna know who the guy was but...I don’t wanna interfere with her personal life. But Kelly, I-I don’t know. She’s too young to be in a relationship. She’s still in college.]
“It’s natural for you to worry, Pierce. But you can’t stop her from falling in love. It’s like a natural disaster. A beautiful disaster.”
I heard him sighed. [Yeah...I guess so...]
I smiled. “She’ll stay the night and I promise she’s safe.”
[I have no doubt when she’s with you, Kels—Pierce, my panty’s wet!]
My lips parted and my heart raced and ached at the sa ti. I...know that voice. They’re together?
[Just fcking go and don’t disturb again!] He cleared his throat after that. [Uh, Kelly. I’m sorry about that—]
“You seem busy. I’m sorry for interrupting.”
[W-What? No! It’s nothing—Fck! Stop it, Lexi—]
I ended the call with a blank face. They’re together. I glanced at the screen of my phone. And it’s already freaking 9:45 PM.
I swallowed the lump in my throat as I saw an incoming call from Pierce. I stared at it until the call ended. He didn’t stop though. He called again which I didn’t answer. He sent a ssage but I didn’t read it and just turned my phone into silent mode.
What are you doing, Pierce? Are you doing it again? I thought we already talked about this? I caught you with her once and I let it slide. But now... Really? Panty? Wet? I gripped my phone as I felt anger in my heart. I feel like I want to burn them alive together.
