"You don’t have to return the money, Abigail. But please co to the eting to et the client. I promise I won’t bother you again after this." Ryland said.

When Ryland didn’t hear a response from Abigail, he continued to convince her. "Just consider the money I paid for your grandmother’s hospital fees as a fee for being the architect of this project. Please don’t refuse my kind and sincere gesture, Abigail."

Abigail’s hand clenched her cell phone tightly, but no words left her lips.

"If you hate , don’t think about this for my sake but for the nearly hundred employees who now work at Urbangrid. I know you know many of them, and I know you wouldn’t do anything to hurt them. Am I right?" Ryland’s words were enough to shake Abigail’s soft and kind heart.

Even though Abigail despised this man, what he said made sense. However, she didn’t rush to answer him. She tried to think over his words countless tis.

’My design is indeed expensive if soone asked to draw. And the $10,000 he offers as a fee makes sense. Should I accept? I only t the client once, and he won’t ask anything else... right?’

Abigail felt confused. The matter weighing on her mind now was: Can she trust this man again after what he did to her? After his painful betrayal?

It felt like Abigail was at a crossroads. Her heart refused to deal with Ryland anymore, but her mind seed to tell her that she needed money to pay the hospital bills.

’God! What to do? Should I accept it?’ she gritted, her teeth feeling confused.

"Abigail, if you want to issue a letter of agreent stating this is the last ti I ask you to do sothing for the company, I will issue it now and send it to you. How is it?" Ryland offered.

He could sense Abigail’s confusion; she didn’t speak but also didn’t end the call.

"Hello, Abigail. Are you still there? Please say sothing, will ya!? I promise I won’t bother you again when this is all over."

Ryland’s pleading voice on the other end made Abigail waver even more with his offer.

"You can send the draft to . And also add a sentence that says, ’You won’t revisit my grandmother; if you do, you will not refuse if I put you in jail!’"

No response from the other end made Abigail worry again. Was this man just bluffing? Now, she felt she was too naive to trust him.

"Do you agree or not!? Or are you afraid to state those words?" she asked.

"Agree... I agree! Okay, I will send the agreent to your email imdiately."

Abigail was shocked; he agreed. She silently smiled before saying, "Good! You can bring the letter on the eting day with Mr. Bennet. And I don’t want you to bring that slut. Or you can forget what we just talked about!"

She didn’t want to et Vanessa, afraid she would be unable to stop herself from slapping her hard.

"Abigail, she is your little sister—"

"Beep!" She imdiately hung up the phone, not wanting to hear Ryland’s voice any longer, as his voice felt like a dagger hurting her ears.

Taking a deep breath, Abigail turned off her phone. She might explode in anger if he called again, so it was better to avoid him now and only et him later at the eting.

"Miss Abigail, please wait—"

Abigail’s steps halted when she was about to open the gate’s small door. She turned to look back and saw Brody coming out from behind the guard room door.

’Do they have an underground room?’ For a mont, Abigail was stunned. She hadn’t seen anyone there when she passed the guard post building earlier. But why did this man suddenly appear from that room?

"I’m sorry, Miss Abigail, for stopping you," Brody said, stopping a few steps away.

"It’s fine, Mr. Brody. May I help you with anything?" Abigail answered with a thin, friendly smile.

"I apologize in advance, Miss Abigail. When we t this morning, I forgot to give you this envelope," Brody said while handing her the white envelope.

Abigail didn’t imdiately take the envelope; she looked at him again and asked, "What is this, Mr. Brody?"

"This is an envelope from Mr. Peters, Miss. I should have given it to you when I brought the docunt this morning, but I forgot. So stupid of ," Brody said, smiling awkwardly. He couldn’t afford to repeat his mistake, or his boss would scold him badly.

Brody, noticing her reluctance to accept the envelope, continued, "Miss Abigail, I don’t know what’s inside this envelope. But please take it. It would really help if you take it now. As for the content, please ask Mr. Peters about it."

He pushed the envelope closer to her.

’Is it the overpaid money?’ Abigail thought. She rembered Peters saying he would return the money she had transferred. ’It must be the money, right?’

She didn’t want to make Brody feel awkward and in trouble, so she took the envelope and said, "Thank you, sir..."

"Please just call Brody, ma’am," he corrected her.

Abigail smiled, nodded, and excused herself. However, Sawyer’s face flashed through her mind before she moved to the gate.

’Should I ask for a visit permit for Sawyer?’ Abigail wondered but worried Brody would refuse. After a second, she sighed deeply and dismissed the idea.

"Miss Abigail, anything else you wanted to ask?" Brody could see she wanted to say sothing but was hesitant.

"Yes, Brody," Abigail silently sighed deeply before saying, "A male friend of mine is going to visit . Can I get permission for that?"

Brody was surprised to hear that. This was exactly what his boss had instructed him to allow; he needed to permit her request. However, sothing concerned him, and he needed to confirm that the person she was asking for was his boss.
