Sorayah's heart pounded like a war drum in her chest. She tried to push Dimitri off, but he was too heavy, too strong. His smirk deepened, twisting into sothing dark and triumphant, his erald-green eyes gleaming with an unsettling excitent.
"You're... you're insane," she spat, forcing steel into her voice even as her pulse raced with fear.
Dimitri chuckled, his breath hot against her skin, sending an involuntary shudder down her spine. "Maybe," he murmured, his lips brushing the shell of her ear, his voice laced with sothing dangerously playful. "But you're going to find out just how insane I can be."
His hands road lower, rough fingers grazing the fabric of her skirt. With a slow, deliberate motion, he shoved it up, baring her fair skin to the cool morning air.
Panic surged through her. No. She refused to let this happen. Not like this. Not with him.
Her mind worked furiously, desperation sharpening her instincts. And then she moved.
Before she could second-guess herself, her fingers closed around the cold steel hidden beneath her robes, the knife she had stolen days ago, waiting for the perfect mont.
Dimitri lood over her, confident, unbothered, completely convinced that she was powerless beneath him.
Fool.
With a sharp inhale, she twisted her body and struck.
THUD.
The blade sank into his chest, just inches from his heart.
Dimitri jerked, a sharp breath escaping his lips as blood blood across his tunic. The thick, tallic scent filled the air, warm liquid spilling over her fingers.
The room fell into a stunned silence.
Sorayah froze, staring at the weapon still embedded in his flesh, her own heartbeat deafening in her ears. She had done it. But it wasn't enough.
She should have gone deeper. She should have aid to kill.
But she hadn't.
Not because she lacked the will. Not because she feared him.
But because she knew killing him now would doom both her and Lily.
At the door, Liam stiffened. His hand flew to the hilt of his sword, every muscle in his body coiled and ready for action. But he hesitated.
Dimitri had given him one order before shutting the door behind him.
No matter what happens, do not enter.
Dimitri had dismissed Sorayah as a re human.
And yet, she had just driven a blade into his chest.
Then a low, dark chuckle rumbled from Dimitri's throat.
The sound sent a shiver through her, not of relief, but of sothing far worse.
Dimitri tilted his head, the corners of his lips curling into an amused smirk. His erald gaze, sharp and knowing, locked onto hers.
"You really are sothing, aren't you?"
His voice was smooth, almost approving, as though she had just amused him rather than wounded him.
Sorayah's grip on the knife tightened. He should be in agony. He should be gasping, struggling. But he wasn't.
He was toying with her.
Dimitri exhaled slowly, his gaze dropping to the dagger still lodged in his side. He reached down, wrapping his fingers around the hilt but he didn't pull it out.
Instead, he let it stay there, as if the wound was nothing but an inconvenience.
"You knew exactly where to strike," he murmured, a hint of admiration lacing his tone. "A little deeper, and a human would have died instantly. Even a wolf would have suffered a fatal wound."
Sorayah swallowed, her breathing ragged.
He knew.
He knew she hadn't gone all the way.
"So what?" Sorayah snapped, her voice sharp with defiance. "Let go of , or I might just drive this knife straight into your heart instead.
Her body was tense, coiled like a spring, fury burning in her veins.
Dimitri let out a low, amused chuckle. His smirk widened, his erald-green eyes flashing with intrigue.
"Nice one," he murmured, tilting his head as if analyzing her. "A lot of people hate , but no one has ever dared to show their hatred so openly let alone drive a blade into my chest. They're always too afraid, trembling just at the thought of being near . But you... you keep surprising . And that only makes want to keep you even closer."
His voice lowered, sothing dark and almost delighted lacing his words.
"I love it when people challenge . And the fact that you, a re human, are the first to do so?" He exhaled, his smirk deepening. "I can't help but think this is going to be so much fun."
And just then..
Without warning, Dimitri lifted a hand and, to her shock, he shoved the blade deeper into his own chest.
A sharp gasp escaped Sorayah's lips.
Blood gushed from the wound, the crimson staining his shirt at an alarming rate. Yet his expression never wavered. If anything, his smirk widened, his breath leaving him in a slow, asured exhale.
His eyes glead dark, unreadable as they stayed locked onto hers.
"You know exactly where to strike. You're not just so helpless little maid, are you?"
Sorayah clenched her jaw, refusing to react, but the way his gaze bore into her sent a shiver down her spine.
Dimitri humd thoughtfully. "Well, yes, I did hear from the eunuch that you learned so skills in the human kingdom self-defense, was it?" He leaned in slightly, his tone turning almost teasing. "Tell , Sorayah... just what kind of dirty business were you up to?"
She stiffened, her heartbeat hamring in her chest.
"Let go of ," she spat, trying to shove him away.
Dimitri, unimpressed by her struggle, grabbed her wrist with ease, his strength overwhelming hers. He yanked the blade from his chest in one swift motion and tossed it to the floor with a soft clang.
Blood dripped freely onto Sorayah's chest and the sheets beneath them, warm and thick. Yet, to Dimitri, it was nothing.
He acted as though it were no more than spilled wine.
Then, with an infuriating slowness, his gaze drifted downward.
A long, exaggerated sigh escaped his lips.
"Hmm." He exhaled, his smirk curling wickedly.
Sorayah watched, confused for a brief second until he spoke.
"Like I said earlier," he drawled, his tone mocking, "I'm not interested. They're too small. Too flat."
Silence.
Sorayah froze.
For a long second, her mind went blank.
Then pure, blistering rage.
"You bastard!"
Without thinking, she lashed out, kicking at him with all her strength.
But Dimitri had already moved. He stepped back effortlessly, dodging her attack as if it were a re inconvenience.
"Relax," he said lazily, stretching his arms as if nothing had happened. His shirt was soaked in blood, but he didn't even glance at it.
Instead, he turned toward the desk nearby, brushing his fingers over the scattered docunts in a show of utter boredom.
"You're really bold, though." He flicked his gaze back to her, eyes glittering with amusent. "No one dares curse at to my face, either. But you? You do it so easily."
His smirk returned, sharp and dangerous.
"It's fun being challenged like this. Keep it up, and who knows? Maybe your head will stay on your shoulders a little longer."
Sorayah's fists clenched at her sides, her entire body trembling with fury.
Dimitri turned away, unbothered. "Anyway," he continued nonchalantly, "you'll need to prepare yourself. There's a function at the palace tonight."
Sorayah's breathing slowed, her anger montarily eclipsed by his words.
"A function?"
"Yes." Dimitri didn't bother looking at her as he straightened the papers on his desk. "We're celebrating the Alpha Emperor and his Luna's bond. It's going to be a very long night."
A flicker of sothing dangerous lit up in Sorayah's eyes.
Lupien.
She was finally going to see him.
The one responsible for her pain. Her suffering.
For taking everything from her.
But as quickly as the hope ca, doubt settled in her stomach.
Was it truly wise?
Staying by Dimitri's side felt far safer than being anywhere near Lupien.
If Lupien recognized her, what if he ordered her execution on the spot?
The fact that he had co to the human kingdom only to destroy it without hesitation, without rcy proved that any love he might have once had for her was either a lie or long dead.
She couldn't be sure.
She could only trust herself now. No one else.
Dimitri finally turned his gaze back to her, his smirk firmly in place.
"Try not to cause a scene," he murmured, his voice laced with taunting amusent. "Unless, of course, you'd like to entertain our guests as well?"
Sorayah frowned. A scene? What was he talking about?
Still, she bowed her head slightly in forced obedience. "I won't."
Without waiting for a dismissal, she rose to her feet and turned toward the door, striding toward the exit.
But she barely took two steps before his voice stopped her cold.
"I don't recall giving you permission to leave."
Her spine stiffened. Slowly, she turned back to face him, her expression unreadable.
"Have you forgotten?" Dimitri smirked, reclining back slightly as if at ease. "You're my personal servant now."
Sorayah clenched her fists but forced her voice to remain even. "What else do you require, Your Highness?"
Dimitri gestured lazily to the wound on his chest, his smirk never fading.
"You should clean up the ss you made." His gaze darkened with amusent."Or perhaps do you prefer to drive the knife into my heart again, bringing out my heart this ti. Go on, I'm giving you the privilege." He added as he opened his drawer and brought out a dagger, threw it to the floor re inches away from Sorayah's foot.
