“This rotten bastard…”

Arthur’s fists began to tremble. Richt, too, seed to be swallowing the curses he couldn’t bring himself to say out loud.

Laius, who had been frowning, raised his head.

“Still, I think we found out everything we need to know.”

Although he was as expressionless as usual, his face sohow seed to contain the sorrow of a parent who realized that raising a child was useless.

It wasn’t so strange, since he had been dealing with Arendt’s misdeeds lately and was on the verge of having his stomach ripped to shreds.

Anyway, the job was done very well.

The problem was the insults.

There was no point in getting irritated any longer. Richt also let out a deep sigh and followed up on the topic the captain had changed.

“Yes, it seems that there are eyes watching the palace.”

“What kind of person did they send?”

“Well, whoever it is, it won’t be easy to deal with them.”

It was probably an owner of an artifact.

Laius absentmindedly looked down at his hands. A black ring was sitting on the finger exposed outside of his leather gloves.

Glenn, who had been silent, carefully opened his mouth.

– It seems like that woman Rebecca… is more deeply involved in the church than we initially assud. Is that okay?

The person who caught their attention the most was none other than Arendt.

Even though he was such a guy that they couldn’t help but want to smack him, they couldn’t help but be worried about him since he was infiltrating the enemy’s den alone.

Arthur groaned, as if he was thinking the sa thing.

“That kid should know to do things moderately. He’s a bit… no, he’s the kind of guy who goes out of his way to get away with things.”

He already knew that Arendt was a man who would do anything to achieve his goal. How on earth could he gossip about the enemy leader and his fellow knights in just two days?

Laius sent him away believing in his unique talent, but he couldn’t help but be dumbfounded by his shaless behavior that he couldn’t get used to no matter how many tis he saw it.

“Glenn, stay there for now and report any changes imdiately. Be careful not to get caught. If it becos dangerous, leave imdiately.”

– Yes, I understand. Please take care too, Captain.

The communication was cut off, and Laius shook his head to shake off his thoughts.

“We’ll take a short break. Then we’ll leave right at sunrise.”

“Yes!”

The other side must have already made all the preparations. All that was left was to defeat the enemy.

‘May God bless us.’

To himself, to his n, and to that damn brat who was alone in the middle of enemy territory.

Laius, who had been praying briefly, clenching and unclenching his fists several tis, slowly let out a sigh.

There was now just a little over a day left from the three days he had promised Arendt.

After that, Arendt had to spend quite a bit of ti in boredom.

After being scolded by Warren, the rcenaries beca quite wary and did not try to talk to him anymore. Arendt also did not bother them any more, because he had already figured out everything there was to figure out.

‘He saves those who have been abandoned by the God of Light.’

Salvation is bullshit.

The words the rcenaries were muttering together were still vivid in his ears.

The reason his life fell into a pit of despair was because he was abandoned by the god Luce, and the ones who saved him were Rebecca and the evil god Chernion.

All the cris he had committed so far had been justified as being for God.

While waiting for the day when the evil god would return, Rebecca and them were working hard and it seed that so level of sacrifice was unavoidable.

Those who have been specially selected to co to this temple must undergo separate education and training and be baptized before they can enter it.

‘Baptism given by the priest of the evil religion…’

It was said that they were covered in black robes from head to toe, so it was difficult to tell their gender.

The rcenaries all spoke in unison.

After the priest finished praying, they placed their hand on the believers’ heads, and the believers felt a warm energy enveloping their bodies. So also said they saw a peculiarly shaped bracelet on the wide sleeve of the priest’s clothes.

It was clearly the ‘Breath of Mnemosyne’. The baptism must have been a process of manipulating people’s mories.

Seeing how the priest personally touched each and every believer, it seed like they put a lot of effort into keeping it a secret.

‘But what about Warren?’

Warren was not baptized. He was exposed to a lot of information whether he liked it or not while he was around Rebecca, but no action was taken against him.

That is to say, Rebecca’s possessiveness and faith operated separately, or Warren’s presence here was not the will of the church…

Werewolves are a rare force to be found, so even if they were allowed to stay here, it would be better to have insurance just in case.

It was certainly strange that they took care of the other lower-ranking guys one by one, but left Warren, the strongest of them, alone.

‘Maybe this was a clue.’

The artifact did not work on people without faith… that hypothesis ford in Arendt’s head.

“This is becoming a nuisance.”

Ultimately, it ant that whether or not one had faith could be judged by whether it worked or not.

He was starting to feel a little irritated.

Arendt sighed briefly and closed his eyes tightly.

As he lay on the sofa and killed so ti, he heard the noise outside. He tried to ignore it and close his eyes a little longer, but the door opened and Warren ca in.

Arendt opened only one eye and looked at him.

“What?”

“They say Sir Laius approached nearby.”

Warren said with a slightly nervous look on his face.

“Follow .”

Arendt, who had been staring at the large werewolf with indifference, suddenly got up without saying a word.

Warren didn’t say a word as they walked down the hallway. The other rcenaries, who had already received their combat orders, simply headed to their positions, not even glancing at the two of them.

As the surroundings beca a little quieter, Warren opened his mouth.

“If you really think you have no chance of winning.”

It was a dry sentence that conveyed no emotion.

“I will complete today the mission I was unable to complete that day.”

“…”

If Laius failed, he would kill Arendt with his own hands.

“You can curse. I’m the one who dragged you here. But I…”

“You sure talk a lot when you’ve just been beaten up.”

But his words were not finished.

When Warren stopped walking and gave him a look of bewildernt, Arendt snickered.

“If you can, try it.”

Arendt tapped him on the shoulder and strode ahead.

“You’ve arrived?”

Rebecca greeted the two people who entered her office warmly as if they were good friends.

A tall man stood silently beside her.

The man with his face covered by a pure white mask just like Vincent turned his gaze and looked this way.

‘Is this the second pervert mask?’

It was a ghostly presence. Even though he was standing right next to Rebecca, there was barely any sense of presence.

“Is it you? The one who killed Vincent.”

A voice flowed out, as if it had been altered. He was staring at Arendt alone, seemingly oblivious to Warren, who had co with him.

“Then who else would it be?”

“…”

Swish.

The man slowly closed the distance between them, taking silent steps, like a beast approaching its prey.

He stopped right in front of Arendt and shouted ominously.

“How dare you beg for your life.”

The murderous intent that had been obscured by a hazy presence in the eyes behind the mask was fully revealed.

Arendt felt instinctively that if he wanted to, he could kill Arendt in one breath. On the other hand, his side didn’t have a sword or any artifacts.

His fingertips tingled with the sensation that his flesh would be cut at any mont, but Arendt was not the type to stiffen his expression at the threat to his life.

Arendt slowly took a deep breath and relaxed his body.

“Why can’t I do it? We all do it to survive.”

A familiar sneer appeared on his lips as he stared straight into the eyes covered in darkness.

“If he didn’t want to die, he should have killed first. If he was going to die from a re apprentice knight, he wouldn’t have lived long anyway.”

“…”

“If he wanted to live long, he shouldn’t have hurt people in the first place.”

The man slowly studied Arendt as if observing him.

From the unwavering eyes, to the childlike face that didn’t waver an inch even while spewing out abusive language, to the legs that stood with ease.

Arendt also did not avoid that gaze but accepted it fully, but in his head, he was searching through his mories diligently.

A man with a ghostly presence, tall and lean as a tree branch, gestures like cloth swaying in the leisurely wind, a cool voice, and an unusually long sword tucked into his waist.

‘Blake.’

A na ca to mind naturally.

He was one of the key rebel fighters in ‘The Blue Knight of the Holy Sword’.

He had expected an artifact holder to show up, but Blake was an unexpected figure.

That was because…

Because he was the original owner of the Frosty Touch.

‘Did you get your hands on another artifact?’

It was a little disappointing that he couldn’t see what artifact he had because of the robe covering his entire body.

“It’s interesting.”

After a mont of deep silence, Blake blurted out, emotionless.

He turned around and went back to Rebecca.

“I will deal with Laius de Winfried and retrieve the artifact. If we keep him alive long enough, he will one day beco a great enemy of the cult.”

“The preparations are complete, Blake. Those who ca with you have also moved to their positions.”

“Yeah, good job. I should start moving too.”

“All right.”

Rebecca bowed her head slightly to Blake and gave Warren an order.

“Warren, bring Lord Arendt’s sword.”

“What?”

“We should fight together. You want to beg for your life, don’t you?”

As she said this, she gave Arendt a aningful look.

Blake added in a flat voice.

“Fight Laius de Winfried before my eyes. If you cannot, I will kill you first.”

His sincerity could be felt in the tone in which he calmly conveyed his words.

Warren, who had been observing Arendt’s complexion, was taken aback.

Even at this mont, the guy was smiling.

“Oh my. Since when has my life beco so valuable that there are so many people after it?”

The golden eyes had a coldness that suited the owner of the Frosty Touch.

“If I cut off the captain’s head with my own hands, will this be enough for the pitiful price of my life?”

“…”

The eyes behind the white mask, whose expression was unreadable, studied Arendt closely, as if examining a curious object, but that was only for a mont, as Blake looked away from him and turned away.

“Let’s go.”
