The caller quickly stated their purpose. It was a manager from Veridian Culture, who said over the phone that they wanted to sign Nina Thorne for a script.

This took Nina Thorne by surprise. "Excuse , but how did you get my contact information?"

The manager’s words were impeccable. "I’ve seen the two scripts you’ve released. They show great potential. Besides, Veridian Culture and OmniCorp are competitors. We’ve heard about what happened with you at OmniCorp. Miss Thorne, if you’re interested, please co to our office to discuss it in person."

Of course Nina Thorne was interested. Veridian Culture was where every screenwriter dread of working.

The platform was huge, the opportunities were plentiful, and it was very inclusive.

Besides, Veridian Culture was the cultural subsidiary of Sylport’s largest dia conglorate.

OmniCorp was already outstanding in the dia and culture sector, but in Sylport, it only ranked fifth.

This showed just how prestigious Veridian Culture was.

After scheduling a eting with the manager, Nina Thorne compiled her personal portfolio and went out to find a shop to print it.

It was the first ti she’d ever had to do this kind of chore.

Fortunately, Justin Kane had made her drink a hangover-soothing soup that morning. Her head no longer ached, and she felt much better.

After printing her docunts, Macy Lynch called to ask her to a beauty treatnt, and she went.

...

Inside the VIP room.

The two won lay on massage beds while a female technician gave them an essential oil back massage.

Macy Lynch let out a contented sigh. "Ah, this is the life. You have no idea. With all the fashion shows and photoshoots lately, my body feels like it’s about to fall apart."

"Your fa is growing, and you’re getting more runway offers. Congratulations, you’ve achieved your dream," Nina Thorne chuckled, genuinely happy for her.

"Of course! I’m going to make money, lots and lots of it. Then I’ll be able to treat you to the good life."

Macy Lynch lifted her head to glance at Nina Thorne beside her. "Wait, you’re already loaded. You should be the one treating to the good life."

"No problem."

Nina Thorne agreed, and their laughter filled the room.

After their beauty treatnt, the two went out to eat.

When they arrived at the restaurant entrance, Macy Lynch got a call, so Nina Thorne went inside with the waiter first.

She inadvertently caught sight of a familiar figure—it was Justin Kane. Sitting across from him was a beautiful woman with a chic, Sassoon-style bob and a capable air.

Nina Thorne’s steps faltered. Her heart felt as if it were being uncomfortably constricted by a thin thread as her eyes darted between them.

’What’s their relationship?’

Not far ahead of her, Justin Kane sensed her gaze and looked up, his eyes eting hers.

At the sa ti, the woman with the short hair followed his gaze and turned around, both of their eyes landing on Nina Thorne.

Suddenly, Nina Thorne felt incredibly awkward, not knowing whether to keep walking or stand still.

"Are you alone?" Justin Kane had already strode over to her while she hesitated.

Nina Thorne felt a tingling numbness spread across her face. She feigned composure and said, "I’m with Macy Lynch."

Justin Kane looked at the faint smile playing on her lips. "Co on, I’ll introduce you to a friend."

Nina Thorne looked at him, surprised. ’A friend?’

’According to the classic TV drama trope, when soone gets caught cheating, they always claim the other person is just a ’friend,’ or a ’colleague from work,’ or sothing.’

A sudden warmth enveloped her wrist. Nina Thorne looked down to see that Justin Kane had taken her hand and was leading her back to the table.

The woman with the short hair stood up, her smile generous and confident. "Kane, who is this?"

"Nina Thorne," Justin Kane made the introduction, then looked at Nina. "This is the friend I ntioned to you, Vanessa Walsh."

’So it’s her.’

’The VP of his company and his good friend, the one whose call I answered for him that night.’

Putting everything else aside, she was stunning in person, with a capable and radiant air.

Nina Thorne curved her lips into a smile. "Hello."

"Hello, Nina Thorne." Vanessa Walsh’s smile was brilliant. "I’ve heard Kane ntion you."

"ntion ?" Nina Thorne was surprised and glanced at Justin Kane beside her.

"Have a seat and we can talk." Justin Kane’s expression was calm, without a hint of panic. He thoughtfully pulled out the chair beside him for her.

Nina Thorne couldn’t very well refuse. After sitting down, she looked openly at Vanessa Walsh across from her.

Vanessa Walsh wore elegant, light makeup. She was dressed in a white satin blouse paired with black, relaxed-fit trousers. Her overall look was simple and stylish, and her eyes shone with confidence and ease.

Nina Thorne had the utmost admiration for professional won like her.

Vanessa Walsh initiated the conversation. "I heard Kane ntion you before. He even saved your na in his contacts as ’Gas.’ I never expected you to be so gentle and beautiful in person."

’Contact na, Gas?’

Nina Thorne looked at Justin Kane, confused. She rembered their conversation about contact nas the other day. ’So it really wasn’t anything nice.’

’What ’Gas’?’

’Don’t I deserve a proper na?’

Justin Kane put a hand to his forehead and shot a look at Vanessa Walsh. "You really know how to make conversation."

Vanessa Walsh was surprised. "Nina Thorne doesn’t know?"

Justin Kane shot her a glare.

Nina Thorne’s smile was a bit awkward. Vanessa Walsh said apologetically, "Nina, I didn’t an to make fun of you."

"This guy, I’ve known him for over ten years. He’s always kept to himself, never had a girlfriend. I answered the phone that day because I was worried it was about the rger and acquisition case. I never thought it would be my sister-in-law calling. I was even more shocked that he got married so quickly."

Vanessa Walsh spoke with open frankness. "I was even thinking of telling Kane to find a chance to bring you out for a al with us. I never expected to run into you here like this. What a coincidence."

Nina Thorne was astonished. ’He actually told her he got married?’

’Isn’t he afraid that...’

’Never mind.’ Nina Thorne didn’t dwell on it and just smiled faintly. "Yes, what a coincidence."

Noticing her slight discomfort, Justin Kane gently patted the back of her hand. "Aren’t you having dinner with Macy Lynch? You should go join her."

Nina Thorne nodded and said okay, then said goodbye to Vanessa Walsh before getting up to leave.

She could tell that Vanessa Walsh wasn’t like Serena Kane. But she was curious—why on earth did Justin Kane save her contact na as ’Gas’?

Nina Thorne and Macy Lynch had just finished ordering when Justin Kane and Vanessa Walsh ca over to say goodbye before leaving.

"Nina, we have sothing to attend to, so we’re heading out," Vanessa Walsh said with a bright smile. "Let’s et again when we have the chance."

With that, she nodded at Macy Lynch as a greeting.

"Okay, goodbye," Nina Thorne replied with a smile.

Before leaving, Justin Kane reminded her in a warm voice, "Don’t drink. You’ll get a headache."

Nina Thorne nodded obediently, seemingly accustod to his thoughtfulness.

After they left, Macy Lynch leaned in close, eager for gossip. "Who was that woman?"

Nina Thorne had guessed she would ask. "The VP of Justin Kane’s overseas company. It seems they’re old friends."

Macy Lynch said, "Oh." After a few seconds of thought, she said seriously, "Justin Kane seems like an upright guy. I doubt there’s anything going on between them."

A warmth spread through Nina Thorne’s heart. The foundation of a marriage is faithfulness, whether there is love or not.

In that regard, Justin Kane passed the test.

After finishing dinner with Macy Lynch, the two of them walked out of the restaurant.

As luck would have it, they ran right into Cole Kane and Serena Kane, that despicable pair.

Serena Kane was clinging to Cole Kane’s arm intimately. Anyone who didn’t know better would have thought they were a couple.

"Nina Thorne, what a coincidence, you’re here too." Serena Kane greeted her warmly, as if their prior unpleasantness had never happened.

Macy Lynch scoffed. "Serena Kane, you’ve really got so nerve. Who do you think you are, getting all chummy with her?"

"Macy Lynch, this is between and Nina Thorne. It has nothing to do with you. We might have had a little misunderstanding, but you shouldn’t be deliberately fanning the flas," Serena Kane said, displeased.

"There’s no misunderstanding." Nina Thorne gave her a cold look, reminding her word by word, "Serena Kane, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say we’re enemies."

"Nina Thorne!"

Cole Kane’s gaze fell on Nina Thorne, and he said harshly, "We’ve already decided not to hold it against you that you injured Serena, cost her the script, and even sued us. How dare you push your luck now?"
