"What? Too sad to speak?" Serena Kane ca up to Nina Thorne, dropping her usual disguise and revealing her sinister, vicious true colors.
"Using the connection between the Thorne and Kane families to force my brother Cole to date you for five years... you’re truly disgusting. Let tell you, Cole will never marry you."
Nina Thorne wasn’t surprised by this side of her in the slightest. After all, she had seen it for the first ti three years ago.
"If he’s not going to marry , is he going to marry you?" Nina’s expression shifted to one of dawning comprehension, and she sneered. "Right. Three years ago, you already tried to sche your way into his bed."
No one else was in the conference room, so Serena Kane admitted it without reservation. "So what if I did? Go ahead and tell my brother Cole. He won’t believe you."
That much was true.
When Serena had gone abroad, Cole had blad Nina for it.
If Old Master Kane hadn’t intervened, they probably would have broken up back then.
’If I’d known Cole was such an idiot, I wouldn’t have wasted another three years of my life.’
Nina snapped out of her thoughts and advanced on Serena Kane, her expression hardening. "First you try to steal Cole, and now you’re coming after my career? Serena Kane, do you really think I’m such a pushover?"
Serena let out a triumphant laugh. "I did it on purpose. What are you going to do about it?"
"My brother Cole is helping now, and the script is about to start filming. Nina Thorne, you should just give up. Anything I want, I’ll take it all from you!"
Nina narrowed her eyes, studying her for a long mont. Then, she smiled, a bright expression that was sohow chilling. "To plagiarize soone else’s intellectual property and be so brazen about it... Serena Kane, you really have no sha!"
"So what? I told you, everything you have, I want."
Serena shot her a contemptuous look. "You’re just a minor screenwriter, but what can I say? I happen to be interested in this industry. You were lucky enough to have my eldest brother help you a few tis before. This ti, I’d like to see who you can possibly find to help you!"
Nina’s gaze dropped to Serena’s chest, and she raised a hand to rub her wrist.
The look made Serena’s skin crawl.
The gesture looked like a prelude to violence. Rembering the hot water that had scalded her chest, Serena shuddered and hastily retreated.
Nina looked up, fixing her with a cold glare for a few seconds. "I’d like to see if you’re still smiling a few days from now."
Nina left quickly.
Watching her retreating figure, Serena sneered in triumph.
After a mont’s thought, she picked up her phone and called Cole Kane. "Brother Cole, Nina Thorne... she... after she found out my script was going to be fild, she tried to hit again."
"Brother Cole, I’m so scared. Maybe... maybe we should just give the script back to her?"
Instantly, Serena adopted a frail and fragile deanor again, her voice soft and sweet—enough to stir any man’s protective instincts.
Cole’s anger was easily ignited. His voice was heavy as he said, "This is the lesson she needs! Don’t worry. Go ahead and get the script fild. I’m here, nothing will happen."
"She still hasn’t apologized for what happened last ti. This ti, I won’t let her hurt you again."
A triumphant smile played on Serena’s lips. Her voice turned saccharine. "Thank you, Second Brother. You’re the best."
...
On the way ho, Nina was on the phone with Misty Hughes.
When Misty Hughes heard what happened, she was furious and told Nina to sue the company and Serena Kane.
Nina was already planning on it, but she didn’t want to drag Misty into it, so she kept her plans to herself.
By the ti she got ho and showered, it was already past five in the afternoon.
Nina opened her laptop and began organizing her script drafts, emails to the director, tistamps, and other related files.
All of this was crucial evidence.
Just as she was finishing up, she got a call from Macy Lynch. "Nina, is sothing wrong with your script?"
Macy knew plenty of people at Nina’s company; she must have heard sothing through the grapevine.
Nina didn’t try to hide anything and told her the whole story.
Sure enough, it sent Macy into a profanity-laced tirade.
"I swear, Cole Kane must’ve been kicked in the head by a donkey to do sothing like this! I don’t think he’s Serena Kane’s adoptive brother; he’s probably her lover!"
Nina was perfectly calm. "You might be right about that."
Cole’s affection for Serena had always gone beyond that of a typical sibling relationship.
Nina had her reservations about it, but had only ever comnted once: "Your sister seems more like your girlfriend than I do."
Because of that one sentence, Serena blew everything out of proportion, tearfully telling Nina she was sorry and that she was going to move out of the Kane family ho.
Cole had comforted Serena with soft words and then demanded that Nina apologize.
Thinking she had gone too far, and afraid of losing Cole, Nina had swallowed her pride and apologized to Serena.
After that, she was always cautious around Serena, walking on eggshells... until the school bullying incident...
Macy’s angry voice on the phone pulled Nina back from her thoughts.
"This script is your baby! You can’t just let that two-faced witch get away with it. Do you want my help? Or... have you thought about asking Justin Kane?"
Nina paused for a few seconds before replying, "I’ll contact a lawyer. Justin just closed a big rger. I don’t want to trouble him."
Macy hesitated. "Is it possible that for Justin, it wouldn’t be a bother?"
"Nina, honestly... I think Justin likes you..."
Macy’s serious tone only made Nina snort with laughter.
Nina’s finger froze on her laptop’s touchpad. "How could that be possible?" she rushed to clarify. "He doesn’t like . We’re only married because of the family alliance."
Macy pressed, "Setting that aside for a mont, do you like him?"
The bedroom was silent, making Macy’s voice from the phone seem exceptionally clear.
The man standing at the bedroom door couldn’t help but furrow his thick brows.
Nina thought about it for a few seconds, then shook her head. "I don’t know. I an, he seems like a good person. I don’t dislike him, and..."
’Justin Kane is a thousand tis better than Cole Kane.’
"And...?" Macy’s voice was practically buzzing with gossip.
Nina couldn’t help but chuckle. "Alright, stop trying to get all the gossip."
Seeing that Nina didn’t want to say more, Macy didn’t press, just reminding her to ask if she needed anything.
Nina hung up and went back to organizing her files.
A mont later, the door opened. Justin Kane, dressed in a dark suit, walked in, his gentle gaze falling upon her.
"Still working on your script?" Justin asked in a warm voice. "It’s ti for dinner."
At the ntion of the word "script," a flicker of disappointnt crossed Nina’s face.
She replied, "Okay," closed her laptop, and walked over to him as if nothing was the matter.
They quickly went downstairs.
The two sat across from each other at the dining table. Still affected by the day’s events, Nina had little appetite.
She had a bowl of soup and a few bites of food before putting down her chopsticks. "I’m done. I’m going back upstairs to work on my script."
She stood and was about to head upstairs.
Justin’s dark eyes were deep and gentle. He spoke in a low voice, "Are you upset?"
Nina glanced back at him, not telling the truth. "No, not at all. It’s just script stuff."
Nina quickly went upstairs.
Watching her slender figure retreat, Justin’s eyes darkened.
A mont later, a call ca in from Assistant Cheney. "Sir, I’ve found it. Three years ago, at school, Madam was frad for bullying. In reality, the one who bullied the female student was Serena Kane."
’Serena Kane again.’
"Keep digging. I want proof," Justin said, his expression cold. "And find out what happened with my wife at her company."
’Just now, outside the door, he had vaguely overheard her conversation with Macy Lynch.’
’It sounded like there was a problem with her script... and it had sothing to do with Cole Kane?’
