Nina Thorne clenched her fists and took a deep breath to compose herself.

Trust is the most important thing in a marriage.

Seeing isn’t always believing.

She refused to wallow in her gloomy mood. Glancing at the disk, she sent a ssage to Serena Kane:

"You lied to about the disk. You’ll face the consequences."

Why would Serena Kane be afraid of her?

The video was deleted; she thought Nina had no way to threaten her.

She scoffed and replied, "The person who saved you died a long ti ago! Nina Thorne, you’ll never find out who he was in this lifeti."

Nina’s heart leaped in shock as she read the ssage.

’The person who saved is dead?’

’How could that be?’

She forced herself to calm down and tried to recall exactly who was at the scenic area that day.

Among so many people, who had she forgotten?

But mory alone wasn’t enough.

She rembered that the person who saved her that day had a crescent jade pendant on him, and she thought she’d also heard soone shout the na ’Ace’.

It was too long ago; her mory was hazy.

When she woke up back then, her father had also told her that Cole Kane saved her.

What exactly went wrong for even her father to say it was Cole Kane who had saved her?

Nina’s thoughts were interrupted by a ringing phone. She ca to her senses and saw it was a call from Albert Locke, so she answered it.

"How did it go? Did you get the surveillance disk? Do you know who saved you yet?" Albert Locke asked.

He had been incredibly busy the past two days.

As soon as he heard Nina was back in Sylport and had a free mont, he called her.

Nina rubbed her temples. "There was a complication. The disk was swapped. It’s gone."

Albert Locke was stunned. "What happened?"

Nina briefly explained what happened with Corinne Kerr, her head aching slightly. "Because of our families’ relationship, I always went easy on them."

"But Serena Kane targets at every turn. I can’t be soft on her anymore."

Albert Locke heard the determination in her voice. "Alright. What do you need to do?"

"I need a complete list of everyone who was there that year."

Nina paused. "But the disk is gone, so we can only start by investigating the people who were present."

"Also, the investigation has to be confidential."

She added this last instruction. It was obvious that the disk’s disappearance wasn’t solely Serena Kane’s doing.

Cole Kane’s decade-long impersonation of her savior was probably not that simple.

The marriage alliance between the Thorne and Kane families.

Given ti, the one who stood to gain the most was Cole Kane.

After thinking it over, Nina was certain that Justin Kane wasn’t the one who saved her, and he probably didn’t even know the truth.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have let Cole Kane keep up the pretense for so many years.

Albert Locke understood her instructions. "Don’t worry, I’ll be careful with the investigation."

"Thanks."

Before hanging up, Albert Locke ntioned that the new smart-driving system’s testing was stable and that it would be going into mass production.

He also asked, "How’s the developnt of that enhanced system you ntioned last ti?"

"It’s going smoothly, but there’s no rush. The currently released system is quite stable. This ti, I want to do so thorough research and aim for a breakthrough."

"Good. I’ll be waiting."

Albert Locke said with full confidence, "I believe in your abilities. There’s going to be a symposium in Sylport soon. Engineers from all over the world will be there. You should co too."

Nina hesitated for a mont.

Albert Locke thought she was going to refuse like she always did and was about to say, ’That’s okay’.

But to his surprise, he heard her agree. "Okay. Contact with the specific ti."

"Great, it’s a deal then." Albert Locke hung up quickly, as if afraid she’d change her mind.

Nina couldn’t help but smile, then fell into thought.

’Regarding what happened back then, maybe I can ask Seth Lawson,’ she thought.

Even though Justin Kane was discussing business with her father at the ti, Seth Lawson seed to have so mory of the incident.

Nina had assud Justin Kane wouldn’t be back tonight. She had just finished washing up and was about to get into bed when he suddenly returned.

Nina froze.

Looking at the man who was always so distinguished and elegant, she rembered the video, and her heart instantly leaped into her throat.

"Why aren’t you asleep yet?"

Justin Kane strode to the bedside with his long legs and leaned over slightly. Her expression was gentle, but he could see a faint trace of exhaustion in her eyes.

He was so close that Nina could sll a faint scent of perfu.

It was the sa one she had slled before.

Her first thought was of April Graham.

"I was just about to."

Nina gathered her thoughts and looked at him calmly, probing, "Why are you so late?"

"Sothing ca up."

The dim light falling on Nina’s face allowed Justin Kane to notice sothing was wrong. "What’s the matter? You look a little pale."

"It’s nothing. I was just overthinking things. I’ll be fine after so rest," Nina replied, her expression still placid.

Seeing that he didn’t intend to say anything more, her heart sank. She pulled the covers over herself and lay down.

Justin Kane leaned over, his tall figure casting a shadow on her face. He smiled. "Wait for . I’ll take a shower and co sleep with you."

Nina’s expression remained mild. "Mm."

Soon, Justin Kane went into the bathroom to shower.

Listening to the SPLASH of water from inside, Nina still felt a tightness in her chest, as if it were stuffed with cotton.

She couldn’t seem to take a full breath in or let it out.

His birthday was in two days. If he was still entangled with April Graham, was there any point in them staying together?

Nina didn’t think so.

But she didn’t want to ask.

When a person was determined to deceive, all she would get for asking was a carefully crafted explanation.

The sound of the water nearly lulled Nina to sleep, but then it stopped abruptly.

Soon, the space on the bed behind her dipped under a heavy weight.

Imdiately after, a warm embrace pressed against her back, and a scent of cedarwood mixed with shower gel filled her nose.

Justin Kane gently held her from behind, his chest against her back, and asked in a low, husky voice:

"Asleep?"

Nina’s voice was drowsy and languid. "No."

"How about we go take our wedding photos in the next couple of days?" Justin Kane’s hand rested on her slender shoulder, gently caressing it.

The motion was gentle, almost soothing.

Nina’s eyes suddenly snapped open in surprise. "Wedding photos?"

"Mr. Jones called today. He’s chosen a date at the end of the month. After we hold the grand banquet, I can officially beco your husband."

Justin Kane lowered his face, bringing it close to her ear. His magnetic voice, mixed with his warm breath, teased the back of her neck.

Nina’s heart traitorously sped up.

She shifted her shoulders to resist his teasing but didn’t refuse the wedding photos. "Okay."

She was truly sleepy and closed her eyes to rest again.

A smile touched Justin Kane’s lips. He leaned down to kiss her cheek, pulled the blanket up for her, and then lay down, holding her as they fell asleep.

The next morning, the two of them sat facing each other at breakfast.

Justin Kane seed to have a preference for dark colors. His custom-tailored suit fit him perfectly, making him look as distinguished and handso as ever.

With looks like that, it was no wonder April Graham was so persistent.

Nina was enjoying her food with her eyes lowered when she suddenly heard Justin Kane ask from across the table, "Is Mrs. Kane free this afternoon?"

"I’m not busy. I’m free." Nina had to go out for a bit later, but it wouldn’t be a problem.

"Why do you ask?"

"Have you forgotten? I ntioned taking wedding photos last night. Mrs. Kane didn’t seem very interested." Justin Kane took a sip of coffee, the corner of his lip curling slightly.

He had always been a calm and steady person.

At least in front of her, he was always gentle and elegant, with an occasionally sharp tongue.

But he wasn’t as ruthless as the rumors claid, like so ’Reaper’.

Nina hadn’t forgotten. She looked down, her expression mild. "I’m free anyti. Just call ."

Justin Kane’s brow furrowed slightly, and he raised his eyes in confusion. "What’s wrong with you? You don’t seem very happy today."

Hearing this, Nina looked up to et his gaze and gave a serene smile. "How could that be? As long as Mr. Kane does nothing to wrong , there shouldn’t be anything that can make unhappy."

She thought of the incident from ten years ago and was just about to ask him about it.

Assistant Cheney walked in from outside, dressed impeccably. "President, Madam."

He stood respectfully to the side, holding a manila envelope.

Justin Kane glanced at it and nodded.

Nina gave him a faint smile and a nod.

After breakfast, she walked Justin Kane to the door. Noticing his tie was slightly crooked, she reached out to straighten it.

Her movents were gentle and ticulous. Her features were soft and lovely, and her skin was so fair it was almost dazzling.

Justin Kane looked down at her, and after a mont, a smile played on his lips. "Mrs. Kane is treating better and better."

Nina looked up at him. No matter how she looked at it, she felt he wasn’t the type to ss around with April Graham.

Although she had felt uneasy yesterday, she ultimately trusted him, so she decided not to press the issue.

However, there was another matter she had to ask about. "Justin Kane, do you rember when I almost drowned ten years ago?"

Justin Kane raised an eyebrow slightly. "I rember."

Nina’s eyes widened, and she pressed on, "Then do you know who saved ?"

"Why are you asking about this?"

Justin Kane’s pupils contracted slightly, his eyes as dark as the night.

Nina figured a man like him wouldn’t dwell on such a minor detail, so she said casually, "No reason, just curious."

Justin Kane suddenly recalled sothing, and his eyes darkened.

He reached out and ruffled her hair, his voice husky. "All that matters is that you’re okay. Don’t dwell on the past, and especially don’t dwell on people from the past."

This was within Nina’s expectations.

She had guessed she wouldn’t get any answers from Justin Kane. It seed he wasn’t clear on the details either.

After Justin Kane got in the car, Assistant Cheney handed him a file from the passenger seat. "President, Miss Thorne does indeed know Engineer Locke."

This investigation had been difficult; it took him several days to find this out.

"Engineer Locke is the son of a forr engineer at the Thorne Group. But sothing happened to Engineer Locke’s father, and their whole family left Sylport."

"Before that, however, Madam’s father, Mr. Thorne, was on good terms with their family. They would get together for als during holidays."

"There’s one more strange thing. During her university years, although Madam took programming courses as electives, her grades weren’t very good..."

That made it all the more baffling how she had so easily fixed the tampered system in Vistara.

Justin Kane finished reading the file, his brow tightly furrowed.

’If they know each other, why did they pretend they didn’t when they t last ti?’

’And that ti Nina was ssaging ’Mr. Locke’ on her phone, the screen looked strange.’

’It didn’t look like a normal ssaging app.’

’It seems my wife is hiding quite a few secrets.’

’Even her sudden question about the drowning incident today was clearly off.’

Justin Kane called Seth Lawson. The man on the other end answered in surprise, "Calling this early in the morning? Sothing’s up, groom-to-be."

Seth Lawson teased, "Don’t tell you want to ask to be your best man?"

Justin Kane’s expression was cold as he cut him off in a low voice, "Cut the crap. I need you to do sothing."

After Justin Kane left, Nina also drove to the office.

She had a eting soon, but since there was still ti, Nina went straight upstairs to the CEO’s office to find Seth Lawson.

She needed to ask him exactly what he knew about her near-drowning incident ten years ago.
