"Once again, we apologize for the lack of hospitality. We promise we will do better next ti."

Cardinal Joshua promised as he ca out to escort us. He looked sorry to see us heading back, but his gaze was more focused on the kids than on or the Duchess.

"It is a pity indeed. I had wished to be able to take all three kids, but I do understand that it is no longer an option."

The Duchess looked at Eon when she spoke these words. A part of her still wanted to take the kid with us.

But Eon had made his decision, and he gave the Duchess a small bow that made her sigh.

"Thank you for the offer, esteed Duchess, but as you can see, that is no longer a possibility for . I do wish you the best of luck on this endeavor."

He told the Duchess, and she sighed before she headed toward the wagon. The twins and I followed.

They looked at Eon once in a while, just to see whether he would follow them or not. But in the end, he did not co with us and continued to look at us from afar.

"Do you wish to say goodbye to him once more? We still have ti."

I reminded the kids, and they looked out of the window before they settled down beside .

"No, it’s fine. We will only burden Eon more if we speak up now."

Nyx told , her eyes barely holding back her tears. I felt sorry for her and glad for her at the sa ti. She was such a good and understanding kid.

Her brother kept looking out as well, his eyes tracing where Eon was, but they did not speak anymore.

The journey back was as calm as it had been while coming here. Since we were with the Duchess, we were given the best of the best.

I had even beco a little... spoiled at this point, which worried a little because I would soon go back to my normal life.

That would an that all these luxuries that were spoiling right now would no longer be available.

Before I could properly mourn this loss, we were back in the town, and it felt like I was waking up from a dream.

’We are... finally back here...’

I told myself as I looked out. The town looked just the sa as before. And truly, nothing drastic could have changed in a few days.

But still, sothing felt... different about this place.

"Shopkeeper, we are finally back. Do you need to help you with anything?"

The Duchess asked as she dropped in front of my store. I could see so people looking at us with curiosity, but due to the Duchess’s influence, no one ca close.

"No, it’s fine, Duchess. There is no need for you to do anything. I will be fine from here. I will contact you if the kids need sothing."

I assured her as I helped the kids down from the carriage. We had decided that the kids would stay with for so ti.

Had it not been for how gloomy these kids were, I likely would not have agreed to the request. But I felt like these kids needed and the stability I could provide them with.

"Alright. Please take care of yourself, shopkeeper. You never know what could happen."

The Duchess reminded before she went away.

"Master, we are finally back."

Fenrir reminded as he shook his body. His fur was all over, and he looked overdue for a bath as well. But he looked too happy for to tell him this right now.

I looked at my door and sighed as well. Finally, we were back.

The door opened without much fuss, but the inside of the store was dusty when we returned. It needed to be cleaned up.

But before that, I had another thing I needed to do.

"Alright, kids, it is ti for to show you to your rooms. Do you want to share or stay alone?"

I asked and imdiately hit myself because it was a stupid question. The twins were holding hands, likely to not get separated from each other. Their huge eyes looked at with innocence, and I quickly took them up.

There were a few things I needed to keep in mind when I found them a room—mainly, the proximity to my own room and also how much space the room had. It was going to be shared by two people, after all.

However, we were lucky because the room in front of mine fulfilled all these conditions for us.

Moreover, it was also close enough to not make the kids nervous.

"This will be your room from now on. You can stay here, and if you need anything, don’t hesitate to tell . And also, do not wander around as you please. This shop is not as safe as it looks."

I warned the kids, and they looked serious as they paid attention to . Their eyes were full of trust when they looked up, and I felt responsible for them.

I needed to protect them, no matter what. That much was certain.

"Alright, I am going to leave you here now. Do not move around too much and get settled down. I will co to et you again soon."

I told the kids, and they nodded before they settled down. They were good kids, and I felt sorry that they had to go through what they did.

So the sooner they settled down, the better it would be for them. I could not stay here to keep them company forever.

"Now, shall we head down for so food? I have not cooked, so let’s find sothing easy to make. If not, well, then I guess I will show you so magic."

After all, the system likely sold food as well, and I wanted so modern food—if it was not too expensive.
