Chapter 39: Chapter 39: How to Deal With Them

Zhou Biao was certainly in the wrong for breaking into the Chen Family ho at night, but at the ti, Chen Cheng wasn’t part of the City Guard Departnt, so it wasn’t a major problem.

It was a common occurrence for mbers of Jianghu Gangs to occasionally murder for profit.

The trouble was that after Chen Cheng joined the City Guard Departnt, Zhou Biao still wanted to go after him. That was simply courting death.

To make matters worse, Zhao Yongfeng was also mixed up in this.

It was no secret that Zhao Yongfeng and Liu Yunfeng had always been at odds. His reason for having Zhou Biao target Chen Cheng was simply to use the opportunity to undermine Liu Yunfeng.

But regardless, mbers of Jianghu Gangs absolutely could not murder an Official from the City Guard Departnt.

Not only could they not do it, but they could also never bear the bla for such a cri. They absolutely couldn’t afford to. This was the Vital Point of all Jianghu Gangs, a cardinal taboo.

If they were found guilty of this cri, it would be enough for the City Guard Departnt to eradicate the Flying Eagle Gang overnight.

SLAP!

Cao Fei swung his hand and slapped Zhou Biao across the face. He struck with imnse force, and Zhou Biao’s cheek instantly swelled up.

"You cur! Tian Qi breaking into the Chen Family ho was a heinous cri. Even though Tian Qi was expelled from the Flying Eagle Gang, he was once your man, so you bear responsibility. Now, hurry up and apologize to Master Chen!"

"Yes." Zhou Biao knew he had screwed up. Clutching his face, he stepped forward, cupped his fists toward Chen Cheng, and said, "It was my failure to properly discipline my subordinate. I hope Master Chen can be magnanimous and overlook my transgression."

Chen Cheng ignored Zhou Biao completely. He turned to look at Liu Yunfeng, and seeing that he had no intention of speaking, said:

"Incense Master Zhou, I can let the matter with Tian Qi go. But you had your n follow

with the intent to do

harm. How do you explain that?"

Zhou Biao would never dare admit to such a cri. Besides, for sothing like tailing and surveillance, there was no concrete evidence. It could be easily denied.

"Master Chen, you’ve wronged ! Even with a hundred tis the nerve, I would never dare plot against a Lord Officer of the City Guard Departnt."

Chen Cheng frowned, pondering his next move, when he suddenly spotted a shifty, weaselly-looking figure hiding behind Zhou Biao.

"Hou Gui, get out here!"

Hou Gui was the very subordinate who had co with Zhou Biao to collect the "example money," an incident that had left a deep impression on Chen Cheng.

"Ma-Master Chen, why... why are you calling for ?"

Hou Gui’s eyes were filled with panic. He remained hidden behind Zhou Biao, refusing to step out.

Chen Cheng raised his Long Saber. "I don’t want to say it a second ti."

Hou Gui’s face was a mask of fear, yet he still refused to move.

Seeing his abnormal behavior, Liu Yunfeng sensed that sothing was amiss.

"Gang Leader Cao, Ah Cheng’s words are my words. Or is it that this Hou Gui of your esteed gang is too shaful to be seen?"

Left with no choice, Cao Fei said, "Hou Gui, get out."

Hou Gui cautiously stepped out from behind Zhou Biao. His right shoulder was wrapped in thick bandages, a clear sign of a serious injury.

Chen Cheng turned to Liu Yunfeng. "Mr. Liu, during the night raid on the Chen Family ho, there were two intruders. I killed one of them, and I wounded the other in the right arm."

"The man I wounded... that should be Hou Gui."

Hou Gui was so frightened he thought his soul would leave his body. THUD. He collapsed to his knees.

"Master Chen, you must be mistaken! I injured my shoulder fighting the Chishui Gang."

Chen Cheng remained expressionless, waiting for Liu Yunfeng to speak.

Liu Yunfeng glanced at Cao Fei, his expression impassive.

"Gang Leader Cao, are you telling

you intend to harbor a criminal who commits ho invasions?"

The truth will always co out. Cao Fei naturally understood that it would be easy to find out how Hou Gui had been injured.

His thick brows furrowed. He raised his Ghost Head Saber and brought it down in a vicious slash.

Before Hou Gui could even react, his head was separated from his shoulders. Blood sprayed everywhere in a grueso display.

"Chief Liu, I was also deceived by Hou Gui," Cao Fei said coldly, a vicious glint in his eyes. "Since he has now paid for his cri, can we consider this matter closed?"

Liu Yunfeng said lightly, "Since Hou Gui is dead, the cri of ho invasion naturally no longer needs to be pursued."

With that, he turned to Chen Cheng, a sharp glint in his eyes.

"Ah Cheng, how do you think we should handle the rest of today’s events?"

Chen Cheng had only sought out Liu Yunfeng for protection. He never expected Liu Yunfeng to be so aggressive as to lead his n straight to the Flying Eagle Gang’s headquarters.

With Hou Gui’s death, the case of the raid on the Chen Family ho was now closed.

As for Zhou Biao tailing him, there was no concrete evidence, so it wouldn’t be good to press the issue further.

’After this, Zhou Biao and the Flying Eagle Gang will definitely not dare to try anything with

again.’

’Of course, as a subordinate, no matter how highly Liu Yunfeng thinks of , I can’t possibly make the decision for him. Even offering an opinion would seem rash. That’s just how it is; it’s the proper attitude for a subordinate toward his superior.’

"I will follow Mr. Liu’s orders," Chen Cheng said calmly.

"Oh?" Liu Yunfeng’s eyes lit up. Chen Cheng’s answer surprised him yet again.

’This kid knows exactly when to press forward and when to fall back. His mind is terrifyingly sharp. If I didn’t know his background, I’d assu he was so reclusive young master from one of the great Noble Families.’

’In that case, I’ll show this kid how a Chief Constable of the City Guard Departnt handles business!’

Liu Yunfeng thought to himself, then turned back to Cao Fei, his expression growing stern again.

"Gang Leader Cao, I can drop the matter of the raid on the Chen Family ho. However, Zhou Biao’s attempt to assassinate a City Guard Departnt constable cannot go unpunished."

"Considering Zhou Biao’s sincere attitude, this official will be lenient and only demand one of his arms. After that, today’s business will be concluded."

Cao Fei’s thick brows shot up. "Chief Liu," he said angrily, "the Flying Eagle Gang will not accept that charge."

Zhou Biao was his most capable subordinate, his right-hand man. If Zhou Biao lost an arm, he would be crippled, and the Flying Eagle Gang’s power would be severely diminished.

Liu Yunfeng stared at him intently. "Don’t tell , Gang Leader Cao," he said coldly, "that you’re willing to go to war with the City Guard Departnt over one of your subordinate’s arms?"

"Chief Liu, watch your words. You alone do not represent the entire City Guard Departnt," Cao Fei said, his expression dark.

He had been perfectly courteous and had even executed one of his own n in public. He felt he had given Liu Yunfeng more than enough face, but Liu Yunfeng refused to yield an inch. If he didn’t take a harder stance, he would lose the respect of his followers.

Liu Yunfeng was a Chief Constable and held great authority, true, but did he really think the Flying Eagle Gang could have established a foothold in Ruyi District without powerful backers of its own?

"In that case, this official shall test your Ghost Head Saber for himself!"

Liu Yunfeng took a step forward and raised his Long Saber, leveling it at Cao Fei. His entire aura turned cold and murderous, brimming with battle intent.

Chen Cheng and the other constables also stepped forward, raising their Long Sabers in unison.

"Chief Liu, you’ve forced my hand! I’m afraid I’ll have to offend you today!"

Cao Fei brandished his Ghost Head Saber, his expression turning ferocious. "Brothers, take them down! I’ll deal with the City Guard Departnt myself later."

There were sixty or seventy mbers of the Flying Eagle Gang. Emboldened by their superior numbers, they all drew their Weapons.

Just as tensions reached a breaking point, a squad of City Guard Departnt Officials rushed to the scene.

Leading them was none other than Zhao Yongfeng, the Chief Constable of the Ruyi Square Sub-Departnt.

Seeing Zhao Yongfeng arrive, Cao Fei’s face lit up. He quickly put away his Ghost Head Saber, stepped forward, and cupped his fist in salute.

"Greetings, Chief Zhao."

"Gang Leader Cao, there’s no need for such formalities." Zhao Yongfeng gave a faint smile, then turned to Liu Yunfeng. His voice turned cold. "Chief Liu, mobilizing your n to cause trouble in my jurisdiction... aren’t you overstepping your bounds?"
