Shangxue left the Xie Family and returned to the hotel.

As soon as she entered the lobby, she saw Cheng Yue entangled with a woman.

The woman reached out to hold his arm, crying and pleading, "Cheng Yue, don’t treat like this. I know I was wrong. What do you want?"

Shangxue stood still, her gaze deep as she watched the two.

Cheng Yue wanted to push the woman away but was helpless, showing a troubled expression.

It wasn’t until he saw Shangxue that he was startled, and regardless of whether he would hurt the woman, he forcefully pushed her away and walked toward Shangxue.

"Shangxue, let explain."

"Hmm, go ahead," Shangxue smiled at Cheng Yue.

But the more she wore that expression, the more anxious Cheng Yue felt.

He had liked Shangxue for two years, pursued her for one, and believed he knew her well.

Shangxue wasn’t a woman with a fiery or obsessive temperant, but the calr she was, the colder she seed.

In relationships, a woman’s excessive calmness is not a good thing.

"She’s my ex-girlfriend. I don’t know why she found . She wants to reconcile, but I disagreed," Cheng Yue explained.

Shangxue nodded, "Hmm, I noticed."

"So, Shangxue, you have to trust . I didn’t do anything to betray you. I’ve been waiting here for you to return," Cheng Yue said again.

At this mont, the ex-girlfriend ca over and once again held Cheng Yue’s arm.

However, she was pushed away by Cheng Yue.

The ex-girlfriend wasn’t angry, still approaching Shangxue and saying, "Hello, are you the one Yue likes now? I want to talk to you."

"Yao Min, we’ve already broken up. Why are you still tangled up?" Cheng Yue said angrily.

Yao Min said, "I just want to talk to Miss Shangxue. Why are you nervous? Or is it that your relationship can’t even withstand my conversation with her?"

"It’s not that it can’t withstand it; I just don’t want Shangxue to know too much about my past," Cheng Yue said with a somber face.

"Are you scared?" Yao Min questioned, "Is that why you don’t want her to know too much about your past?"

"Cheng Yue, don’t get agitated. I’ll talk to Miss Yao. She’s right; it’s just a conversation. Also, you know well, my decisions are not influenced by external factors," Shangxue gently soothed Cheng Yue’s emotions.

Cheng Yue felt comforted yet sad. Shangxue was always like this, with a gentle and understanding heart. She always made people feel like they were basking in the spring breeze, calming their restless hearts.

But the more this happened, the more frightened he felt inside.

Such a good woman, is he worthy of her, can he have her?

"Miss Yao, what did you want to say to ?"

Shangxue and Yao Min talked in the hotel’s café, each ordering a cup of coffee, but neither touched it.

Although Yao Min suggested the eting, it was Shangxue who spoke first.

"Cheng Yue and I have been childhood friends, known each other since kindergarten," Yao Min started slowly.

Shangxue nodded, showing a sincere listening expression.

Yao Min continued, "We went to the sa elentary and middle school, but later we were separated in high school entrance exams. However, we always kept in touch. Without any unexpected events, we would have gotten married, had children and settled down."

"What unexpected event caused your breakup?" Shangxue asked.

Yao Min bit her lip, "When I was in middle school, my father resigned from a state-owned enterprise and started his own business. He was lucky, and gradually, our family’s company grew bigger and beca quite reputable locally. But Cheng Yue’s family was just an ordinary working-class family. That wasn’t a problem; I loved him, not his family’s money, and I wasn’t afraid of living a hard life. Later in college entrance exams, he got into a prestigious 985 university, quite well-known in our area. I didn’t do as well, getting into an ordinary first-tier university. My father had money and sent to study broadcasting. Many excellent n pursued in college, but I was unmoved. I thought we’d get married after graduation since my parents liked him too. But unexpectedly, when I brought him ho after graduation, he broke off talks with my parents."

"Broke off talks?" Shangxue frowned.

Yao Min nodded, "My parents only have as their daughter, and there’s a family company. My father’s idea was to have him marry into our family and inherit the company. Although my parents’ request was demanding, it wasn’t entirely unreasonable. But he disagreed, more precisely, his father disagreed. His father was a middle school teacher, a bit conventional, and because of this, they broke us up."

"You broke up because of that reason."

"Not entirely because of that. How could it be just that reason? We continued secretly without our parents knowing. But unexpectedly, his mother suddenly fell ill and was diagnosed with brain cancer."

"At that ti, he had just graduated and planned to pursue a master’s degree but had no money. His family was a typical working-class household, supporting Cheng Yue to study without any savings. The surgery alone needed three hundred thousand, and that was just the surgery, not including subsequent expenses. His family couldn’t co up with it. My parents, disregarding past grievances, visited his mother in the hospital and proposed again. As long as they agreed to let Cheng Yue marry into our family, they would pay for his mother’s treatnt. Plus, all post-surgery dical expenses would be covered."

"Did his parents still not agree?" Shangxue asked.

Yao Min lowered her head, "Not only did they not agree, his mother killed herself to avoid burdening them. Cheng Yue knew it wasn’t my fault or my parents’ fault, but his father didn’t see it that way. At the ti, we had no way to escape this situation, so we broke up."

"Why are you seeking him now?" Shangxue asked.

Yao Min laughed bitterly, "In the years apart, I’ve had several relationships, but... I couldn’t forget him. I learned that his father passed away earlier this year, so I wanted to see him again, to give it another try, and give us both a chance. But he said he had soone he liked, which is you. I couldn’t understand why until I saw you, and then it made sense why he chose you."

"Why?"

"Because your features resemble his mother when she was young. He always feels guilty about his mother, and that might be why he likes you."

Shangxue: "..."

"That’s all I wanted to say. If you don’t believe , you can ask Cheng Yue. If under such circumstances, you still want to be with him, I have nothing more to say. I’ll let go," Yao Min said.

"Did the Xie Family send you?" Shangxue suddenly asked softly.
