The world fell silent.
As the sacred ritual began, every being except the wizard held their breath.
A mystery that even mysteries revered.
The Sky God.
[The preparations... are perfect!]
The sword mysteries swirled around each other, intertwining as they rotated.
Arno and Isil were born with the powers of the sun and moon respectively.
Though already powerful magical items, with the Sky God's quest and Ian's infused power, they had transcended their original strength to beco sothing far greater.
[Objective: Create the True Anor-lsil]
[Collect all of the following items to draw out Anor-lsil's power.]
[1. Sothing containing the power of the sky]
[2. Sothing containing the power of clouds]
[3. Sothing containing the power of wind]
[4. Sothing containing the power of stars]
[5. Sothing containing the power of the sun]
[6. Sothing containing the power of the moon]
Arno and Isil extracted the mysterious powers stored in the sword one by one.
[The power of the sky...]
[The goddess of the afterlife gave it to us!]
The power of the sky gifted by Hrundal.
[The power of clouds! This was originally possessed by the Mountain King!]
[We weren't there then...]
The power of clouds that the Mountain King had owned.
[This was given by the space-ti wizard, right?]
[It must have been part of the plan.]
The power of wind passed on by Gerard.
[A gift from the Duke with the narrow eyes!]
[I... actually like him...]
The power of stars found in Duke Roxlan's treasury.
Like children playing with toys, Arno and Isil wielded the powers dwelling within Anor-lsil.
The empty sky.
Beautiful stars rose densely above it.
White clouds appeared, pushed along by green winds.
Ian quietly gazed up at the sky created by Anor-lsil.
Since it was made with magical power, was this so kind of [artificial sky]?
[Are you ready, Master?]
The magic sword asked Ian.
Without hesitation, Ian answered.
"[Of course.]"
Arno and Isil absorbed the power of the final treasure.
The treasure containing the power of earth given by the Emperor.
The mystery born of fire and steel could make the powerful earth force its own.
After all, Anor-lsil was a magic 'sword.'
[This is the last step, Master!]
[Go and et the divine one.]
Arno and Isil transford into the sun and moon respectively.
Above the magically created sky—
The sun and moon rose.
With that, the sky beca complete.
Though created by magic and very small—
It was, undeniably, a sky.
"Yes! It's the sky~!"
Ian blinked.
A woman dressed in a pure white chiton stood in the center of the sky.
Ian carefully asked.
"Are you... the Sky God?"
The woman cheerfully answered.
"Yes!"
#
How to put it.
The Sky God truly looked like a 'deity.'
More precisely, she wore clothing identical to the goddesses in Greco-Roman mythology.
When soone dressed like a deity appeared as if from nowhere, there was no other conclusion but that she was divine.
Ian looked around.
He had clearly been performing the ritual on White Mountain...
But now he found himself in the middle of the sky.
Ian was... flying?
"The expression 'flying' isn't quite accurate," the goddess interjected naturally.
"This is an artificial sky created by Ian. In a world without ground, can the concept of flying truly exist?"
"Then let's say I'm floating."
"That's better!"
The goddess smiled sowhat ruefully.
"I enjoy casual conversation like this. I'd like to chat with Ian, but..."
"We don't have much ti, do we?"
"That's right. Ian's artificial sky won't last long. Five minutes at most?"
They truly had no ti.
Ian muttered with slight disappointnt.
"After all that effort to complete it, just five minutes..."
"With the normal world's technology, you couldn't even attempt this. Five minutes is quite impressive."
Though he had a mountain of questions, Ian stopped the small talk for now.
Such questions would be more appropriate for filling remaining ti.
"May I ask questions first?"
"Of course! But if it takes too long, I'll cut you off. I have things to say too."
Ian could barely suppress a smile.
It was literally a ti-attack QA session!
"Did you call to this world, Goddess?"
"Yes!"
"May I know why?"
"I can only say that I needed Ian!"
The goddess rattled off her words rapidly.
She was truly a fast-talking goddess.
"The world is far more vast and complex than Ian thinks! People call the 'Sky God,' but I'm actually closer to the [Will of the Universe]!"
"Will of the Universe?"
"It's simple! You've already encountered the wills dwelling in fire, water, wind, and earth, right?"
Ian understood imdiately.
What humans called [mysteries]... the goddess was referring to as [will].
Just a slight difference in terminology. The subject remained the sa.
Just as flas have the will of fire that wizards can contact through magical language—
This goddess was the [Will of the Universe].
Sothing that could never be contacted, communicated with, or understood through ordinary ans.
"There isn't just one universe!"
That could be possible.
Ian, a forr science student, accepted this without much doubt.
"There's not enough ti to explain now, and even if I did, it would be difficult for Ian to understand."
"We can skip it. I'm not particularly interested anyway."
"Good! Then I'll teach you properly after you die!"
"..."
Perhaps because she was a deity, she spoke of matters of life and death so casually.
"To explain simply, we needed to advance the ti of contact between the universe and humans."
"The ti of contact?"
"The timing when humans understand the universe... that is, . We needed to trigger that earlier."
Ian just laughed.
Truly, he had no idea what she ant.
Even if he asked for an explanation, it would be impossible to explain within five minutes.
"For now... understand it as needing to [survive]."
"I'll think of it as the universe needing human help to survive."
"Excellent!"
That answer was good enough.
The goddess continued her explanation.
"To initiate contact earlier than the world had determined, we needed a variable capable of distorting space-ti."
"...Is that ?"
The goddess nodded.
"Ian is like a spark."
"???"
"Left with ordinary air, it burns normally and goes out. But when it contacts gas..."
She made a sound effect like "boom~" with her mouth.
Even though she was a deity, making sounds with her mouth was really amusing...
"In short, Ian's soul gained the special ability to resonate with 'mysteries' the mont it crossed over to [this] world."
Ian understood without difficulty.
"So I'm like Kira, born in the modern era?"
"Much more extraordinary, but... similar in a way?"
Ian laughed with a touch of emptiness.
People have their own talents. Random ones, but still.
A fisherman might have a poet's talent, or a taxi driver might have an engineer's gift.
Many people never discover what talents they possess until they die.
Kira was born with trendous entertainnt talent... but in the dieval era.
So she took the wandering jester-scamr route.
Ian was the opposite.
Born with powerful talent for contacting mysteries... that is, a [wizard's] talent, but in the modern era.
In a world where mysteries were limited to religion, fortune-telling, and tarot cards, Ian's talent went forgotten by everyone.
Why did this happen?
The goddess explained that it was the universal will of the world.
"It's about controlling the pace so the world doesn't grow too quickly."
If Ian was a spark, he was born in the modern Earth so that spark wouldn't [explode].
Originally, it should have ended there.
With Ian's talent never blooming.
But after Ian died...
For the briefest mont, his soul passed by the goddess.
In that frozen, fleeting mont.
The goddess conceived a plan to use Ian to change the world.
"Ian's [other possibilities] have already begun their work."
"..."
Gerard's story ca to mind.
It was about Ian in other world lines...
Now he understood why the goddess ntioned an 'explosion.'
Truly, Ian's existence was changing countless tilines like a bomb.
"You heard from the space-ti wizard, it seems."
"Ah! The space-ti wizards! My cute helpers~!"
The goddess clapped her hands once and said.
"Yes. I asked the space-ti wizards to help Ian."
Ti and space are the universe.
In a sense, space-ti wizards could be seen as those who worship the universe.
"Of course, without Ian's efforts, it would have failed."
Ian responded awkwardly.
"I'm not sure what efforts I made."
The goddess smiled gently as she spoke.
"Humans tend to underestimate themselves."
"...Underestimate?"
"You said you don't know what efforts you made."
The goddess stretched out her hand.
Beyond the sky, Ian's life began to flash by like a kaleidoscope.
From his childhood as a farr's son, wandering through forests...
Taking Eredith's hand and entering the Golden Mountains.
Sharing drinks with Drake Longtail.
Having a fake magic duel with Kira when they first t...
Countless adventures swept over Ian's head.
"Rember. The purpose of living beings is survival."
"Survival..."
"Yes. Ian has lived well and survived to reach this mont."
Life is a struggle.
Once born, everyone struggles to live.
So struggles are more desperate, others more comfortable to witness.
But from the goddess's perspective.
From a cosmic viewpoint, the intensity of effort isn't visible.
Can we definitively say that a poor person's efforts are more painful than a wealthy person's?
Can we claim that a talented person's achievents are necessarily more excellent than an ordinary person's?
The goddess said.
The purpose of living beings is survival.
If one 'lives well,' that alone is success.
Wild creatures strive ceaselessly to achieve that success.
No matter how much humans belittle each other's 'efforts' for survival.
"Ian has lived sufficiently well."
"..."
"You studied hard, traveled the world, made friends, and found people to love."
He had lived each mont fully—
And thus wrote his own life story.
Ian quietly smiled.
Life really isn't anything special.
Ian knelt before the goddess.
Truly, there wasn't much ti left now.
"If you have sothing to tell , I'm ready to listen."
The goddess looked down at Ian and smiled softly.
"Then..."
