Chapter 251: Taciturn People

The two assassins, disciples of the Twin Slaughter Ghost, rolled their eyes around. They too were Deathshroud elite assassins, individuals who possessed judgnt surpassing that of ordinary people.

‘How does he know the inner workings of Deathshroud so well?’

Moreover, the opponent was extrely young.

No matter how generously one judged, he looked to be at most in his mid-twenties.

He did not appear to be from the Beggars’ Union, the Hao Sect, or the leadership of so large organization.

In the end, the two assassins reached a conclusion.

“Cheonsal Ghost, the traitor.”

“The weakness of Divine Slaughter Ghost.”

Divine Slaughter Ghost was Seo Yu-gyeom’s master.

He had ultimately decided to let Seo Yu-gyeom live, even after Seo Yu-gyeom betrayed Deathshroud and left. That fact had sparked nurous debates even within Deathshroud itself.

There were voices insisting that Seo Yu-gyeom must be found and killed, and others saying that the once emotionless Divine Slaughter Ghost, cold as a blade, had gained the weakest possible flaw—sentint (情).

At that mont, Moyong Hyeon widened his eyes and looked at Seo Yu-gyeom. He had known there was so kind of past, but he had never imagined that Seo Yu-gyeom was from Deathshroud.

Furthermore, Moyong Hyeon also knew the alias Divine Slaughter Ghost very well. Alongside the King of Assassins, he had been the most famous assassin of the era.

“Y-you…….”

Moyong Hyeon stamred as he pointed at Seo Yu-gyeom.

In his mind, scenes of all the words and actions he had directed at Seo Yu-gyeom until now flashed past one by one.

From the very first eting, when he had constantly provoked Jin Seong-un and Seo Yu-gyeom whenever he had the chance, to the mont in Deyang, Sichuan, when he had nearly crossed blades with Seo Yu-gyeom.

Even after entering Seong-un Inn, he had repeatedly engaged in clashes of presence with Seo Yu-gyeom and Seomun Ak whenever there was an opening.

Only now did it dawn on him that all this ti he had been wagging his neck in front of the blade of an assassin from Deathshroud.

‘This isn’t a trivial problem…….’

As he thought that and looked around, everyone else appeared calm.

Now that he thought about it, it seed as though he alone had been unaware.

While a sense of bitterness welled up for no reason, the captured assassin continued speaking.

“Then you should know better than anyone what will happen if you kill us.”

From the mont they guessed Seo Yu-gyeom’s identity, a sense of ease settled onto the faces of the two assassins.

Anyone who knew Deathshroud could never turn it into an enemy. Once Deathshroud set its sights on soone, that person could no longer eat, sleep, or live peacefully on this land.

As the two assassins leisurely tried to stand up, Seo Yu-gyeom firmly pressed down on their shoulders.

“You only know my alias and haven’t heard the rumors, it seems?”

The two assassins looked up at Seo Yu-gyeom.

They recalled sothing their master, the Twin Slaughter Ghost, had said years ago, back when Seo Yu-gyeom had been active.

I do indeed despise Divine Slaughter Ghost, but he’s a man capable of leading an organization. His disciple, however, is different. If that thunderbolt-brained bastard ever leads Deathshroud, the organization will be ruined.

Their master had constantly referred to Cheonsal Ghost with words like executioner, madman, soone with neither basics nor foundation, muttering things like how on earth such a fellow could belong to Deathshroud.

The reason was simple. Among all assassins affiliated with Deathshroud, he was the one who followed the rules the least.

Even after accepting a contract, it was common for him to return without killing the target, claiming he no longer felt like it. There was also an incident where he had been sent out on a mission, only to disappear into fishing and not return for three months.

There was an especially famous case where he had been disguised as a chef for a mission, only to discover it suited his disposition and live as a chef for over half a year, before being dragged back by the Vice Leader.

What those consistent rumors pointed to was clear.

This man did not care about Deathshroud’s opinion.

In other words, he was soone who could kill them.

As their expressions stiffened, Seo Yu-gyeom calmly continued.

“I’m asking out of courtesy. Who was the client?”

The two assassins closed their mouths.

Seo Yu-gyeom nodded, as if that reaction was only natural, and then…….

Thud-!

He drove the Heaven-Slaying Dagger straight into one man’s neck.

Everyone except Jin Seong-un recoiled in shock and stepped back.

Ignoring them, Seo Yu-gyeom swung the Heaven-Slaying Dagger again.

Thud, thud-!

As he stabbed only vital points and killed, he felt no emotion at all. Executioner or not, Seo Yu-gyeom was, after all, an assassin who ca from Deathshroud.

One blood-soaked assassin collapsed limply onto the floor.

Seo Yu-gyeom wiped the blood from the Heaven-Slaying Dagger by rubbing it against the other man’s clothes and said,

“Who is it?”

Seo Yu-gyeom had no intention of interrogating them.

Deathshroud assassins had peculiar dispositions; the more one interrogated them, the tighter they shut their mouths.

“How would I know?”

That was how the assassin answered.

Whether those words were truth or lies was unknown.

What was certain, however, was that once he decided not to answer, there was no way to extract the truth.

Seo Yu-gyeom nodded and swung the Heaven-Slaying Dagger once more.

Thud, thud, thud-

Only the chilling sound of flesh being pierced rang out repeatedly.

After killing both assassins in an instant, Seo Yu-gyeom glanced around briefly and clicked his tongue.

He had intended, if possible, to avoid spilling blood inside the inn…… but there was no helping it, as they would have been constantly preparing to escape.

“I’ll take care of it.”

Saying that, Seo Yu-gyeom dragged the two corpses away and disappeared sowhere.

After a short while passed and Seo Yu-gyeom returned, he looked spotless, as if he had never killed anyone at all.

He continued speaking in a composed tone.

“Their failure will reach Deathshroud soon. Higher-ranking assassins will co. The Twin Slaughter Ghost himself might even co. Deathshroud never gives up.”

Jin Seong-un let out a small sigh.

He usually paid little attention to ordinary Black Path figures or demon lords, but Deathshroud was different.

Their thods were ticulous, vicious, and exhausting to deal with.

If Jin Seong-un were alone, even that would not matter much, but now there were others with him. Especially Lee Seowon and Han Seong-chun, who knew almost nothing about martial arts.

After thinking for a mont, Jin Seong-un asked,

“How strong is Deathshroud?”

“Martial prowess isn’t what matters. They’ll never fight in the way we want.”

Unlike Murim forces, it was impossible to confront them head-on and resolve things cleanly.

They did not even have a true base to begin with, making it difficult to track the location of high-level assassins, let alone the Deathshroud Leader or instructors.

“Even if they did fight us head-on, we still wouldn’t win. You said you fought the Wudang Sword Immortal, right? Could you defeat him?”

Jin Seong-un briefly recalled the Taiji Wisdom Sword of the Wudang Sword Immortal and shook his head.

“The King of Assassins is a man who could kill the Wudang Sword Immortal. This is troubleso…… I did think sothing like this might happen soday.”

After pondering briefly, Seo Yu-gyeom continued.

“It really could be the Myriad Gold Manor, or the Heavenly Poison Alliance Leader who lost his child, or the remnants of the Namok Trading Company, or perhaps the spite of so rchant whose Eonsa Prefecture comrcial rights we took away…….”

Listing them one by one, there were surprisingly many enemies.

In the end, there was no way to find out unless they confird it directly through Deathshroud.

Seo Yu-gyeom spoke.

“Whether it’s the Myriad Gold Manor or not, we have to find out what kind of bastards did sothing like this. I should go see my master. In any case, Uncle Seong-chun already knows the recipe for Seolhwa Undon inside out, so if I pick a few chefs and teach them, it’ll work out.”

Even in the midst of all this, Seo Yu-gyeom was still a chef.

After all, to handle the enormous volu of orders from the battlefield, they needed to recruit at least several chefs anyway. Rather, this was the perfect ti for him to step away briefly.

Seo Yu-gyeom glanced around and suddenly made eye contact with Seomun Ak. Seomun Ak abruptly let his gaze go slack and stared into empty space.

“Want to co with ? You’re a chivalrous hero, aren’t you.”

“…….”

“Y-yes? Th-then let’s go together! Great Hero Seomun!”

When Seo Yu-gyeom said that, the focus in Seomun Ak’s eyes vanished even further.

At that mont, Seomun Ak quit being a chivalrous hero.

Seo Yu-gyeom’s gaze then shifted to Moyong Hyeon.

“Then…….”

“Did I train too hard yesterday? I think my wrist might be broken…….”

As he said that, Moyong Hyeon clutched his own wrist. Seo Yu-gyeom wore a dumbfounded expression, but Moyong Hyeon remained resolute.

“If only my wrist were fine…….”

“I’m joking. Do you really think I’d take you to sowhere that dangerous.”

At the sa ti, the focus returned to Seomun Ak’s eyes, and Moyong Hyeon’s wrist was healed.

Thinking that the mbers of Seong-un Inn probably would not die easily wherever they went, Jin Seong-un spoke.

“Young Master Seo. I’ll go with you.”

“Are you crazy? If I take you along, they’ll think I’m trying to start a war.”

Seo Yu-gyeom’s judgnt was reasonable.

The reason he could not take Moyong Hyeon and Seomun Ak was because Deathshroud would likely kill them as easily as crushing insects.

On the other hand, the reason he could not take Jin Seong-un was because Deathshroud would sense genuine danger and draw their blades in earnest.

“I can go alone. It’s not like I’m going to fight Deathshroud. I’m just going to see my master.”

“Are you really sure you’ll be all right?”

“Don’t worry. If, by so remote chance, sothing happens, I’ll imdiately run back to the inn. It’ll be quite a nuisance for you, but surviving cos first.”

“Please do exactly that.”

Jin Seong-un nodded, while Seomun Ak and Moyong Hyeon muttered softly, ‘Why are you coming back to the inn, of all places.’

Seo Yu-gyeom looked at the two of them.

“Great Hero Seomun, Great Hero Moyong. It seems we’ll be going together to Deathshroud after all…….”

At once, the two suddenly claid they had sothing urgent to do and vanished. Seeing that, Seo Yu-gyeom chuckled for a mont, then, without any particular preparation, left straight away carrying only a single Heaven-Slaying Dagger.

There were many who wished to know Deathshroud’s location.

Not only the Beggars’ Union and the Hao Sect, but also the Murim Alliance and the Imperial Court’s intelligence organizations were surely curious.

They often assud that Deathshroud would be situated in so remote mountain. After all, many sects and clans of the Orthodox Faction, including the Murim Alliance, were lying in wait for them.

That was half right and half wrong.

Deathshroud was operated almost like a network of cells, so so indeed settled in deep mountain valleys, secluded and desolate, just as expected.

However, others chose a place right under the lamp.

The most representative example was the Vice Leader, Divine Slaughter Ghost.

Hubei Province, Jingzhou.

If Wuhan was the heart of Hubei, then Jingzhou was like the armor that firmly protected that heart.

As a true military stronghold of Hubei Province, the city was filled throughout with generals dispatched from the central governnt and elite imperial soldiers, and branches of prestigious orthodox sects were also nurous.

Right there was Divine Slaughter Ghost’s safe house.

Directly across from the Jingzhou Prefecture governnt office.

Seo Yu-gyeom calmly walked into an alley lined with rows of ordinary shops.

rchants and custors haggled everywhere, families went out on excursions, and imperial soldiers strolled about with their hands clasped behind their backs.

Seo Yu-gyeom entered a shop that was neither so shabby as to be suspicious nor so flashy as to draw attention—a truly unremarkable place.

It was a store selling wooden handicrafts and small bowls in a miscellaneous assortnt.

An old man who had been dozing off while holding a carving knife in his right hand and a block of wood in his left discovered Seo Yu-gyeom and widened his eyes.

Seo Yu-gyeom greeted the old man familiarly.

“Oh! You’ve sohow managed to stay alive all this ti. You’re the first assassin I’ve seen who’s lived this long.”

“What brings you here?”

“I ca to see my master.”

Scrape, scrape.

The old man spoke while carving wood out of habit.

“Not now.”

“Why not.”

“He’s entered closed-door training. He said not to let anyone in for the ti being.”

“Closed-door training? What kind of closed-door training does an assassin do?”

“Seems he’s had so kind of recent enlightennt.”

The old man spoke in a listless tone, and Seo Yu-gyeom nodded while looking over the handicrafts displayed in the shop.

“Your craftsmanship seems to improve day by day.”

“Well, this is all I ever do.”

“Aren’t you bored?”

“……Not really.”

At the sa ti, Seo Yu-gyeom suddenly flung the piece of wood he was holding toward the entrance.

The fragnt severed a cord hanging above the doorway. A secret iron curtain dropped down, completely sealing the entrance.

The interior of the shop was filled with darkness so deep one could not see an inch ahead. Strangely, not even a trace of light seeped in.

Seo Yu-gyeom’s voice rang out simultaneously from both the left and right of the old man.

“My master trusts no one. Not even the likes of you.”

That his master would trust this old man enough to enter closed-door training inside? That was nonsense.

Seo Yu-gyeom’s voice continued. This ti, it ca not only from the left and right, but also from above and behind.

“Is the Twin Slaughter Ghost here?”

“…….”

“We’re all far too taciturn. That’s the problem.”

Thud, thud-!

In the darkness, the chilling sound of flesh being pierced rang out repeatedly, followed by the sound of a carving knife and a block of wood falling to the floor.
