Chapter 201: Special Task Force (2)
When Jin Seong-un and Sword Dragon Moyong Hyeon locked eyes in a standoff, the entire room fell deathly silent.
Jin Seong-un found this situation rather peculiar.
‘Is this guy that exceptional compared to the others?’
Martial artists of the murim lived their whole lives pursuing strength. So even if unspoken, there was always a subtle awareness of each other's rank.
No matter how much the Chief Strategist had personally appointed him as a temporary captain, it was surprising to see the prideful successors of the Five Great Clans and Nine Sects acknowledge Sword Dragon.
Had they not, there would have been significant backlash when Sword Dragon tried to act as their representative.
‘His martial level is comparable to Sword Phoenix.’
As the successor of the Namgung Clan—renowned for producing the best swordsn—Namgung Rin’s martial ability was considered one of the most outstanding even among the Five Dragons and Three Phoenixes.
To be on par with soone like Namgung Rin ant Moyong Hyeon was undoubtedly a high-level martial artist.
However, was he so formidable that others would willingly follow him like subordinates? That didn’t seem to be the case.
At that mont—
As if he had noticed Jin Seong-un’s doubts, Huamyeong’s voice transmission ca through.
– The Moyong Clan is a little different from the other Five Great Clans. In truth, Liaoning is more akin to a vassal state, and it's the Moyong Clan that governs that region.
In other words, they were not just an ordinary murim clan but had deep connections with imperial authority.
Only then did Jin Seong-un understand the others’ attitude. Unless one was soone like Tang So-yeon, who had nothing to lose, there was no reason to provoke the Moyong Clan.
Jin Seong-un nodded slightly and said,
“In any case, I’ve made my position clear. If the day cos when the Murim Alliance takes
as an enemy, then I’ll either regret your words or not. That’ll be up to .”
“……”
Moyong Hyeon looked at Jin Seong-un as if he were insane. He was genuinely curious what gave an innkeeper such unwavering confidence.
Shaking his head in disbelief, he said,
“You really live up to the na 'Guest Dragon'—reckless to the core. I’ve issued my warning. Whatever cos next, you’ll deal with it.”
With that, Moyong Hyeon turned on his heel and left. His attitude suggested Jin Seong-un was no longer worth dealing with. Yet Jin Seong-un, as if he’d already dismissed the man from his thoughts, calmly walked back into the inn.
Seo Yu-gyeom, who remained behind, watched Moyong Hyeon’s departing figure. Just then, Jin Seong-un spoke.
“We’ve made too many enemies.”
Only then did Seo Yu-gyeom cough awkwardly and follow him into the inn.
Either way, they'd now turned the Myriad Gold Manor into an enemy.
On top of that, the Heavenly Poison Alliance—rulers of Sichuan’s Unorthodox Path—harbored deep hatred toward Jin Seong-un. Understandably so, since he had killed their Vice Leader.
There was never a need to provoke soone from the orthodox sects, especially the successors of clans like the Five Great Clans.
Jin Seong-un, Seo Yu-gyeom, and Seomun Ak returned to their everyday routines at the Seong-un Inn as if the earlier commotion had never happened.
Jin Seong-un was updated by Han Seong-chun on the various events that had occurred in the inn during his absence, while Jang Gwang, in Seomun Ak’s absence, had secured the waiter’s position firmly among the Yichang locals.
Feeling threatened, Seomun Ak tried overly hard to act friendly with custors, while Seo Yu-gyeom, as always, focused solely on his main task—cooking.
Ti passed in a blur, and night soon fell.
After cleaning up the shop and returning to his quarters, Jin Seong-un received a visit from so covert guests.
Sensing the stealthy presence, Jin Seong-un instinctively reached for his sword, but upon realizing who it was, spoke calmly.
“Co in.”
The door opened, and a man and woman stepped inside—it was none other than Tang So-yeon and Huamyeong.
As he fetched a tea set from the corner of the room, Jin Seong-un said,
“What brings you here? And in such an assassin-like, secretive manner at that?”
“Hahaha, as expected, we couldn’t fool your senses, Jin Master. So, did your visit to the Wudang Sect go well?”
Huamyeong asked with his usual friendly smile. When Jin Seong-un nodded, he and Tang So-yeon exchanged a brief glance.
Sensing they had sothing important to say, Jin Seong-un quietly brewed the tea and waited.
As the aroma of tea began to fill the room, Tang So-yeon cautiously opened her mouth.
“We ca to Yichang with two missions.”
“One of them must be the Special Task Force’s assignnt.”
“That’s right. We’re here to capture the ones behind the child abductions connected to the Baek Li Clan. And the other one…”
Tang So-yeon glanced around nervously and lowered her voice even more.
“The Chief Strategist suspects that there are collaborators among the Nine Sects and Five Great Clans.”
“So the two of you are trusted by the Chief Strategist?”
Both Tang So-yeon and Huamyeong nodded at once.
This ti, it was Huamyeong who spoke.
“I was one of those who helped imprison the Baek Li Clan in the Murim Alliance prison alongside you, and Miss Tang here owes her life to you. As you know, the Tang Clan is quite rigid when it cos to favors and grudges.”
It was a rational judgnt.
The Tang Clan was known for their near-fanatical obsession with repaying both gratitude and resentnt.
From the perspective of Sima Baek, the Chief Strategist, it was unthinkable that such a clan would plot to endanger Jin Seong-un’s life.
Especially considering the Baek Li Clan had indeed tried to kill Jin Seong-un, Seo Yu-gyeom, Seomun Ak, and even Huamyeong.
“I see. I trust both of you. And although they aren’t here right now, I also trust the Wudang Sect and Baek Sang Dojang.”
Tang So-yeon nodded.
“Exactly. That just leaves the Four Great Clans and the Nine Sects. The Tang Clan truly doesn’t engage in such filthy sches.”
“Nine Sects?”
Huamyeong furrowed his brow and asked.
Judging by context, they seed to be referring to the Four Great Clans excluding the Tang Clan, and the Nine Sects excluding the Wudang Sect.
“Let’s call them the Seven Sects instead. Our Mount Hua Sect is truly innocent, you know. Honestly, even Shaolin should be excluded…”
“If you start excluding them one by one like that, who exactly are we supposed to suspect?”
Tang So-yeon’s sharp retort made Huamyeong cough awkwardly. Jin Seong-un, watching the two of them in silence, eventually spoke.
“So, why are you telling
all this? It seems like a mission secretly entrusted only to the two of you.”
“Why do you think the Chief Strategist sent us to Yichang in the first place?”
Jin Seong-un paused for a mont, then quietly sighed. It seed they were seeking help in uncovering the traitor.
“Is there sothing I can do?”
“I doubt the Chief Strategist had a detailed plan either. But among those outside the influence of the Nine Sects and the Five Great Clans, you’re probably the one he can trust the most.”
Jin Seong-un was one of the few masters untouched by the power struggles of the current era.
It was natural—those he revered as masters were beings who transcended the Nine Sects and Five Great Clans altogether.
Tang So-yeon continued.
“Whatever you know, please don’t share it with the Special Task Force for now. If there really is a traitor among us, the information might leak to their backers.”
Jin Seong-un nodded.
He hadn’t planned to trust the Murim Alliance anyway.
“If the ti cos and you need help, I’ll offer it.”
“Thank you. We’re tracking the ones behind it as well, so we’ll share any useful intel we get.”
That was the reason Tang So-yeon and Huamyeong had co to him in secret.
They believed Jin Seong-un likely possessed information even the Special Task Force didn’t have yet.
Their visit was preemptive—to prevent any of that knowledge from flowing into the Task Force’s hands.
And along the way, to properly express their respect, which they hadn't been able to earlier.
Thus, a secret alliance was ford among the three of them. After so ti passed, the pair disappeared as quietly as they had co.
Imdiately after they left.
Jin Seong-un entered the Martial God Realm.
An infinite space where heaven and earth were indistinguishable.
A place filled with endless night and stars.
It struck him again how unchanging this place was.
Jin Seong-un imdiately explained to the Martial Gods everything that had happened.
From rescuing children during the flood recovery, to uncovering the vile cris of the Baek Li Clan, the Blood Demon Qi rampage during their confrontation, and finally, the near certainty that Myriad Gold Manor was the mastermind behind it all.
Everyone sighed, but only Blood Demon and the rchant King wore hardened expressions.
Blood Demon, who rarely spoke, said in his characteristically low and gloomy voice,
“For now, refrain from using the Blood Demon Art. Your condition is likely unstable.”
As always, his explanation was brief, but Jin Seong-un now understood Blood Demon’s words well.
After experiencing a rampage induced by the Blood Demon Qi, one’s vulnerability to further incidents remained heightened for so ti.
As if he had said all he needed to, Blood Demon lay back down far off in the distance.
This ti, the rchant King spoke.
“It’s fortunate, in a way, that the Murim Alliance is taking action. Even if there is a traitor among them, the entire Alliance couldn’t have fallen into Myriad Gold Manor’s grasp.”
“Is that so?”
“Yes. There are things in this world that money can never buy. Those people will lay low for now. They’ve prepared for far too long to risk it all with a single rash move.”
The Murim Alliance had publicly declared the existence of a group kidnapping children. They had dispatched the Special Task Force and other teams across the martial world.
Myriad Gold Manor was a calculating organization. They would know that now was the ti to stay quiet and out of sight.
The rchant King continued.
“So, the conclusion is that you need to locate the group known as Mu-gung. You’re reaching out to various people for help in the anti.”
“That’s correct.”
“What do you plan to do if you find them?”
Jin Seong-un looked steadily at the rchant King.
He had no idea what kind of answer the man wanted.
Rather than make assumptions, he chose honesty.
“I plan to take them down. I may just be an innkeeper, but if I ignore the evil I face directly, then everything I learned from my masters would beco aningless.”
The Sword Immortal and Noble Enchantress smiled broadly in approval, while the Divine Thief and Blood Demon lounged about as if it didn’t concern them.
Jin Seong-un looked to the rchant King.
The man, lost in thought for a mont, asked again.
“It won’t be easy. Even in my ti, Myriad Gold Manor’s unseen power far outweighed what they showed. It’s likely only grown worse since.”
There was no knowing how many top-level masters Myriad Gold Manor had. No telling what portion of their wealth, influence, and force had been revealed to the world.
But Jin Seong-un’s answer didn’t change.
“If I keep cutting them down one by one, I’ll eventually reach the end.”
“You might die before that end cos.”
“I’m not particularly afraid.”
The two n locked eyes for a mont.
Lee Pyo-sang, the rchant King, could feel the sincerity in his disciple’s heart.
Having confird Jin Seong-un’s resolve, the rchant King raised the corners of his mouth in a smile.
“Seong-un.”
Jin Seong-un looked at him.
To the Martial Gods, Jin Seong-un was like a newborn. Yet here he was, declaring that even at the cost of his life, he would carry on their will in this era—how could they not find him admirable?
Smiles flickered across all their faces—except for Blood Demon—as the rchant King spoke in a firm tone.
“If the truth behind Myriad Gold Manor turns out to be anything like what you suspect, then that place has no reason to exist in this world. Do you understand what I’m saying?”
“Yes. I understand.”
Jin Seong-un nodded.
A man who had once built the strongest and largest Golden Fortress in all history was now telling his disciple to tear it down.
The destruction of Myriad Gold Manor.
Lee Pyo-sang’s first and final command to his disciple, Jin Seong-un.
“Before you leave, co see . I’ll place in your hands that which the ones behind Myriad Gold Manor so desperately crave.”
“I will.”
