Lyra left the training grounds and followed after the guard. They passed many rooms and it took a long ti to reach the queen’s chamber. She only now realized the vastness of Scorpion Castle. It did not consist of stories like her ho but instead was spread wide with many rooms. There was a clear distinction between each chamber and the queen’s chamber was in the innermost part of the entire castle.
The queen’s palace looked well-maintained and pretty. No.....saying pretty was an understatent because the place in front of her looked absolutely gorgeous. There was a flower garden in the front and a little stream right beside it. Crystal-clear water glistened due to the sun’s rays falling on it and one could see small colorful fishes swimming along.
However, there was sothing even more beautiful that caught her eye when she glanced around. There was a woman maybe in her late thirties sitting relaxed on a wooden chair as she basked in the sun with her eyes closed. The latter had familiar chocolate brown hair with almost identical facial features to that of her mates’.
Lyra stood stunned in her place with her eyes wide open. The woman that she was seeing right now looked just like Demir would have been if he was born as a woman. The only difference was that Demir had more masculine and rugged features while the woman was more on the softer and feminine side. And when the said woman opened her eyes, Lyra gasped. ’How can this be?’ the woman even had the sa golden eyes as her mate.
She waited with batted breath as the woman looked at Lyra. The woman’s golden eyes took in Lyra’s form as though she was observing a foreign creature.
"Take a seat" The woman’s lips parted letting out a soft voice breaking Lyra’s daze.
Lyra quickly recovered her composure before sauntering toward her mate’s mother. She also noted the woman’s eyes not leaving her as she sat on the opposite chair.
The woman relaxed in her seat before glancing at one of the guards beside her, "Leave"
The guards didn’t need more words as they scurried away right after that command.
"What’s your na?" a query left the woman’s mouth as soon as they were left alone.
Lyra ever so slightly straightened herself in her seat before answering, "Lyra, your majesty"
"There’s no need for all that formalities. You can talk freely with "
"I do not talk freely with people I just t, your majesty" Lyra countered. She didn’t have any intention of getting close to the woman that had hurt her mate. The only reason why she ca here was that she was curious about her sudden summoning and hoped to understand more about her mate’s torntor and nothing else. She did not desire to get chummy with her mate’s mother unless he wished otherwise.
"Very well" but unlike Lyra’s straight but slightly harsh words, the woman looked calm, "If that is what you wish then you may"
Lyra frowned as the woman smiled softly before adding, "I’m linda, by the way," Then she crossed her legs before continuing, "I will not waste your ti and co to the point, lady"
Suddenly linda’s eyes turned sharp as she stared at Lyra, "Why did you choose my son as your mate? Was it because he is a prince? Or was it for his strength and standing?"
"Do I have to answer that?" Lyra was displeased but held back from lashing out. That was not like her and no matter what, the woman was her mate’s mother and she had to respect the latter due to her position as the current scorpion queen.
Whereas on the other side, linda looked unapologetic and calm, "I would appreciate it if you do so. If there is no ulterior motive then I see no reason for you to not answer" and the next words ticked Lyra the wrong way, "Or is it that you can’t answer because I’m right.....did you mate with my son only because he is a prince?"
"And what the hell does that have anything to do with you!?" a familiar loud voice reverberated in the open space making Lyra surprised. She turned around and found Demir seething. He was glaring at his mother with so much hatred and hostility that it made even Lyra worried. She didn’t like seeing him like this. There was unmasked pain and misery under his anger and that made her heart ache for him.
Demir clenched his fists trying to contain his anger. Then he marched towards his mate and held her wrist as he said, "Let’s go, sunshine"
"I’m sorry" words left her mouth before she could think. She regretted coming here without informing him, "I-I didn’t an to hurt you...."
"I’m not angry at you, sunshine" Demir stopped her by cupping her cheeks, "I was worried when I didn’t find you back there" That was what got him rushing here. For the first ti in his life, nothing about his painful past bothered him and the real thing that bothered him was not seeing his mate back in the training grounds. Never before had he stepped foot inside his mother’s palace but now he did. Just for his mate. He wanted to see her and make sure that she was safe and that’s it. That was all he wanted.
Now that he made sure of his mate’s condition, his attention shifted to his tribe’s present queen and his mother, "This will be the last ti. Take this as a warning or whatever.....You will not see my mate ever again" then he pulled Lyra towards him before adding, "You have no authority to command my mate. Keep that in your mind"
Lyra looked between the mother and son in worry. There was a thick tension in the air and the first to break that was the scorpion queen, "I did not command anyone, prince. I just wanted to et her"
"Why?" Demir asked, "Why do you want to et her?"
"Can’t I even et my son’s mate?" asked linda with a frown etched on her face.
And to that, Demir laughed and Lyra could hear a mocking tone in his laughter as he uttered, "Since when did you start caring about all these? Huh? I’m your son all of a sudden?"
linda’s face darkened hearing his words and Lyra couldn’t help but look at Demir. She tugged at his robe before saying, "Demir that’s enough. I was the one who ca here and nobody forced . Now let’s go"
He frowned but still followed after his mate and started to walk out of the queen’s palace. But their steps ca to halt when they heard, "Lyra!"
Lyra turned around and looked at linda as the latter continued, "What will you do if one of your mates kills your other mates and family just to be your one and only?" the queen took a step forward and added, "Can you forgive soone like that? Tell ?"
