Elena felt that she had heard sothing wrong. Yes, that was it! She must be misunderstanding Lexi’s words.
"What do you an by that Lexi?" She asked ekly. Elena just wanted assurance from her friend but her face froze seeing the stern look in Lexi’s eyes.
"You heard right the first ti" Lexi’s tone was harsh saying, "The arrangent that you are asking to stop was decided by the kings of other tribes. They wanted my brother to beco your mate for him to enter the beast city. And this is a penalty for the black wolf tribe for ambushing the snake tribe. I ’CANNOT’ stop this even if I try"
Elena was stunned to hear Lexi’s resolute words. Now that she thought about it, Lexi was right. Even if Lexi tried to stop, the kings will never listen to her, and in the worst-case scenario, they could punish even her for interfering. Elena knew all of this but still, she wanted to believe that Lexi could stop this by talking to Prince Xavier.
"Lexi...Try talking to your brother. If he becos adamant then no one can stop him right?"
Lexi couldn’t stop herself from chuckling at Elena’s naive words, "Do you think my brother will listen to ? I will be lucky enough to walk out alive if I discuss this with him. Xavier hates when soone interferes in his life. You do know about how he didn’t bat an eye while killing a female that annoyed him"
"But he is your brother...." Elena tried to reason but Lexi snorted at her.
Xavier never thought of her as his sister and Lexi knew that. Maybe he had a soft spot for her mother in the past but not the level of agreeing to everything that they say.
She sighed and glanced at Elena, "I’m sorry Elena. I cannot help you in this matter"
Elena furrowed her brows. She felt betrayed and lost. But more than anything else, she felt angry. Angry at herself for being so weak and at her father for deceiving her and Lexi for not even trying to solve her problem.
Lexi noticed that Elena was going to lose her calm and warned, "You cannot bla for your father’s mistakes. If you want to shout and thrash then get out of here before doing that"
Elena glared at her, "I will never forget this day. You will pay for this"
"What did I even do?" Lexi asked incredulously, "I’m telling you! My brother won’t heed my words even if beg him. He does whatever he deems right" she was already surprised at his rcy in not killing Michael back in the ice room. Lexi knew that her brother must be holding himself back by not killing soone as soon as entering the city.
Elena clenched her fist and suddenly said, "Then let et him. I will persuade him to cancel this arrangent"
"Who?" Lexi asked stupidly.
"Prince Xavier" Elena pressed feeling frustrated by Lexi. She wanted this to be over and done as soon as possible.
Lexi sighed and opened her mouth to reply but stopped hearing a cold voice.
"I didn’t know that our tribe’s defense is this sloppy?" Xavier calmly said looking at the guard beastman beside him. Then his gaze shifted inside the room and fell on his sister, "What is going on here?"
Lexi flinched in her place hearing his cold voice. She slowly lifted her head and looked ar him, "This is...."
"I’m Elena, your Highness" Elena introduced herself before Lexi could continue, "I’m from the black wolf tribe and the one arranged to beco your mate"
"That will not happen"
Elena hastily raised her head and looked at him with wide eyes.
Xavier had a relaxed expression on his face while saying, "I will never beco mates with soone like you"
"Soone like ?" Elena felt oddly offended at his words. Now that she got to properly look at him, Elena was stunned by his handso features. Two different colored iris that was known as cursed looked incredible on him. She forgot her situation and started to stare at him anwhile Xavier continued his previous words.
"I will be the one to decide whom I mate with" his voice was harsh but clear, "No one can force to do the things that I don’t like. And I don’t like you"
"Pfff" Lexi stifled her laughter hearing his words.
Elena frowned at him and turned around to walk back to the balcony but Xavier’s voice made her halt.
"You can return in a normal way if you want," Xavier said, "The one who escorted you will not be able to get inside the tribe.
Xavier was already irked by his patrolling guards’ negligence. He was never the one to leave the loose ends when it cos to the security of his tribe. Now that he was the king, he had so ’Rules’ that he wanted his tribesn to follow whether they liked it or not.
Elena turned around and stord out of the room through the door. She quickly made her way out of the fox tribe while walking aimlessly in the night. She even forgot about her mate and continued to walk until she reached the forest.
Lush trees covered the dark forest and Elena hesitantly took a step inside. She wanted to be alone at that mont.
She should be happy about Xavier’s words but Elena felt frustrated and sad instead. She felt absolutely rejected. Prince Xavier’s face didn’t even flinch while saying those harsh words to her. And Elena was not able to help but compare him with Lucas.
Lucas too had that sa face whenever he looked at her. Repulsion, annoyance, and irritation were always on his face when she tried to get close to him.
Elena knew that she was pretty. Beautiful black hair and shining eyes with a lovely face that got so many males chasing behind her. Her father also liked that fact but Elena didn’t feel happy about it.
It was because the only man that she ever loved and wanted didn’t even take a second glance at her beautiful face. He left her for that bitch that he found in this very forest that she was standing in.
"If only she was not here" Elena murmured. Her chaotic heart started to bla Lyra. She cursed at her for coming into Lucas’ life. Elena wanted to kill that bitch and make her disappear.
"Do you really wish to do that?"
She snapped her head in the direction from which she heard a voice, "Wh-who.....?"
"Don’t need to get scared sweety.....I’m the last person that you should be scared about"
Elena’s legs shivered and she kept backing away. No matter how much she saw, there was no one around her. Then she heard a soft giggle that made her flinch.
"You cannot see no matter how you try but that is not the important issue here Elena," a soft feminine voice said, "The only thing you have to know is that I can help you get what you want, but...."
"But?"
"You have to lend your body for so ti"
Elena frowned, "I don’t understand your words"
"Don’t try to understand too much" now the voice sounded harsh, "Do as I say and you will get your man right in your arms"
Elena felt worried, "How do you know about him? Don’t you dare harm him...."
And another series of laughter followed her words, "You must really love him"
"I also really loved him" this ti the voice was sad.
The voice sighed audibly, "Elena you must trust . I’m trying to help you. The second you say ’Yes’ will be the second your rival’s bad ti starts. I will make her disappear from your life"
"Ho-how can I trust you?"
"Sweety, you don’t have any more choice but to trust . Everyone abandoned you right?"
Elena felt a pang in her chest hearing her words. It was sad but true. Her father locked her up, and her friend looked at her in disgust the one she loved never cared about her.
She felt compelled hearing the stranger’s voice. The stranger said that she would get rid of that ’bitch’ and Elena wanted nothing more than that. After she is gone, Lucas will have no other choice but to co to her. Suddenly determination burned in her eyes. She gulped and said, "I agree. I don’t care who you are or what you do, but I want her gone"
