Chapter 8: Why Didn't You Turn on the Lights?
Fortunately, Qi Shenbai seed to have disappeared for the past few days. Xu Jiaojiao learned from the butler that Qi Shenbai had gone on a business trip. Furthermore, every ti he went on a business trip, he would be gone for a long ti. Only then did Xu Jiaojiao feel relieved.
At night, when the butler and servants were resting, the lights in the villa were all switched off, and only the wall lamps shone with a dim yellow light.
After Xu Jiaojiao finished the howork assigned by her teacher, she was a little hungry, so she quietly went downstairs to the kitchen to look for food.
She loved the night the most. The entire villa was quiet, as if she was the only one left in the world. Others would feel lonely, but Xu Jiaojiao felt free. At tis like these, she could do whatever she wanted, such as cooking supper for herself.
In order not to alarm the others, Xu Jiaojiao's movents were very light. She cooked a simple bowl of noodles and walked towards the dining room with the steaming hot noodles.
Suddenly, a black shadow appeared in front of her!
In her shock, her fingers loosened and the bowl of noodles was about to fall to the ground. Just in ti, the black shadow took a step forward and caught the bottom of the bowl.
Xu Jiaojiao held her breath. Under the dim yellow light, she could finally see the black shadow's face. She stuttered as she greeted, "M-Mr. Qi…"
Qi Shen's thoughtful gaze fell on Xu Jiaojiao's face as he asked in a deep voice, "Why didn't you turn on the lights?"
Xu Jiaojiao explained, "I don't want to disturb everyone's rest." She knew that if she ntioned it, the butler would definitely arrange for soone to make food for her. However, she was the freeloader here, so she did not want to cause trouble.
Qi Shenbai's eyebrows moved slightly. Just as he was about to speak, the crystal lights in the villa suddenly lit up. Pei Yan was a step slower as he walked in with his luggage. When he saw Qi Shenbai and Xu Jiaojiao standing so close to each other, he was so shocked that his mouth fell open.
Mr. Qi was actually standing that close to a woman?! Qi Shenbai usually could not stand it when a woman stepped even a little closer to him. He never interacted with anyone of the opposite sex! Today, though, he was actually standing so close to Xu Jiaojiao that the two of them were almost touching!
Qi Shenbai glanced at Pei Yan imperceptibly before carrying the bowl of noodles to the dining room. From the corner of his eye, he noticed that the noodles in the bowl looked delicious. He put down the bowl and said in a low voice, "You can tell the butler if you want to eat supper next ti."
"There's no need to trouble anyone. I'll make it myself." Xu Jiaojiao followed Qi Shenbai to the table and added, "Thank you."
Qi Shenbai stood in front of the dining table without moving as he stared at Xu Jiaojiao.
Xu Jiaojiao was confused.
The atmosphere was a little strange. Xu Jiaojiao was the first to speak up. "Mr. Qi, it's already so late. You haven't eaten yet, right? Do you want to eat sothing?"
Pei Yan was about to refuse on Qi Shenbai's behalf when Qi Shenbai agreed. "Okay."
Pei Yan was confused. "???"
Xu Jiaojiao was speechless. "…" She had only offered to be polite.
Fortunately, Xu Jiaojiao had made a bigger portion of noodles, so she could easily give so to Qi Shenbai. By the ti Xu Jiaojiao went to the kitchen to get a bowl, Pei Yan had already left, leaving Qi Shenbai sitting alone at the dining table.
After Xu Jiaojiao finished serving the noodles, Qi Shenbai took a bite. He originally thought that Xu Jiaojiao's noodles looked good, but he did not expect them to taste even better than he had imagined.
When Xu Jiaojiao saw Qi Shenbai silently eating his noodles, she held her small bowl of noodles and sat at the seat furthest away from Qi Shenbai. She also lowered her head to eat her noodles.
After a while, Qi Shenbai finished eating and put down his chopsticks. His thin lips parted slightly. "Yunduo is awake."
Xu Jiaojiao looked up, her round eyes filled with joy. "Really? That's wonderful."
As she said this, she heaved a sigh of relief in her heart. It seed that Qi Shenbai had suddenly returned because Qi Yunduo had woken up. She was also glad that Qi Yunduo had woken up. Otherwise, Xu Jiaojiao suspected that Qi Shenbai would treat her as a liar and send her to the police station.
Qi Shenbai's deep gaze fell on Xu Jiaojiao's ankle. "Is your ankle alright?" He rembered that she had sprained her ankle on the day of the wedding.
Qi Shenbai was not soone who cared about others. He only asked now purely because Qi Yunduo was awake, and he was in a good mood.
Xu Jiaojiao shook her head. "I recovered a long ti ago."
Qi Shenbai nodded and got up to go upstairs. As soon as he left, the pressure hanging over Xu Jiaojiao's head also disappeared. She let out a long sigh of relief. Just then, Qi Shenbai's voice sounded behind her, "Xu Jiaojiao."
"Huh?" Xu Jiaojiao stood up in shock, almost knocking over the bowl of noodles. She turned around and looked at Qi Shenbai, who was standing by the stairs. She was so nervous that she did not even dare to breathe loudly. Uh-oh, was Qi Shenbai going to ask her how she knew about Qi Yunduo again?
