Chapter 637: Chapter 577: Caught so quickly?
After sending a ssage to Tang Yi saying “I’m leaving first,” Qiao Sang followed Mai Ya out of the Pet Beast Center.
The assessnt task had a ti limit, and she did not want to waste ti.
“I didn’t expect you would really accept my task,” Mai Ya said with a smile on the way.
“Since I’ve accepted your task, you should be able to tell
the real situation now,” Qiao Sang said.
“What?” Mai Ya’s smile faded.
Qiao Sang did not beat around the bush but directly stated:
“I just asked the staff, and she said the reason your task was upgraded from one star to two stars is that it’s been posted for nine months, during which 16 Beast Tars accepted it but none completed it. This is different from what you told
when you sought
out.”
At this point, Qiao Sang’s expression turned serious:
“If you want
to complete the task smoothly, you must tell
the real situation.”
Mai Ya fell silent for a few seconds before saying:
“I have a suitor nad Nadapeng. Every ti a Beast Tar accepts my task, he cos out to threaten them, telling them to give up my task.”
Qiao Sang was stunned for a mont.
She had thought the withheld information was related to the quantity or strength of the wild Pet Beasts, but it turned out to be just interference due to emotional issues?
This task’s difficulty had nothing to do with wild Pet Beasts at all!
Qiao Sang suddenly regretted accepting this task and wondered if it was still possible to switch tasks at this point…
The atmosphere between the two beca sowhat awkward and stiff for a mont.
“Isn’t he your suitor? Why would he do this?” Eventually, Qiao Sang couldn’t help but ask.
“Because I rejected him,” Mai Ya said with a cold smirk. “He hopes that this will compel
to ask for his help.”
Qiao Sang: “…”
Isn’t this task already nine months old? How can he persist like this? Qiao Sang couldn’t understand it at all.
Imdiately, she had another thought and asked, “What rank of a Beast Tar is he?”
“C-rank,” Mai Ya replied.
A C-rank Beast Tar… Qiao Sang cautiously asked:
“How many General-level Pet Beasts does he have?”
If the other party had two or more General-level Pet Beasts, it might be a bit troubleso.
“One,” Mai Ya answered.
That’s not too bad then… Qiao Sang felt relieved.
Mai Ya saw Qiao Sang’s composure as if she were a great master and silently breathed a sigh of relief, thinking her own guess was right, that a high-level Beast Tar must be protecting her from the shadows.
Not far from where they were, a Pet Beast about a ter tall that looked like a rock silently followed them. Its left eye emitted a faint green light, recording everything in front of it.
anwhile, in a coffee shop near the Pet Beast Center, Qu Zhuo sipped his coffee while staring at the screen on his computer in front of him.
The screen was split into two sections, displaying the live movents of Qiao Sang and Tang Yi.
…
About twenty minutes later, Qiao Sang followed Mai Ya to an area where the buildings were obviously decrepit.
People of various skin colors gathered in small groups, giving off the vibe of street thugs and hobos.
Their eyes brazenly scanned Mai Ya, but upon seeing the obviously expensive Pet Beast in the arms of the dark-haired girl and the Little Steel Falcon that followed, they shifted their gazes elsewhere, not daring to look for long.
In a corner, a black man who appeared to be around twenty-five years old took out his phone and typed a text:
[Mai Ya has hired another Beast Tar.]
…
“I live here,” Mai Ya stopped in front of a two-story building with a small courtyard.
Compared to the neighboring structures, this one obviously showed signs of renovation.
Mai Ya took out her keys to unlock the door.
After removing her shoes and taking just a few steps inside, a little girl about seven or eight years old wearing a goose-yellow dress ca running from the direction of the sofa and threw herself into Mai Ya’s arms.
“This is my daughter,” Mai Ya said tenderly as she stroked the girl’s head.
The girl turned her head and looked over timidly, her gaze shifting back and forth between Yaobao and Gangbao.
Wait a second… Qiao Sang was having trouble processing the information as she listened to the introduction.
She rembered that the task giver had ntioned a suitor nad Nadapeng…
Was the task giver divorced or widowed?
As Qiao Sang frantically filled in the blanks in her mind, Mai Ya continued:
“My husband works in the nineteenth district and seldom cos ho.”
So she hadn’t divorced or beco a widow… Qiao Sang fell silent for a dozen seconds to digest the news.
After a while, Qiao Sang asked, “Why don’t you go to the nineteenth district together?”
“My daughter is of school age now, and to go to school in the nineteenth district, one must have a house there. It will be a few more years before we can afford one, so we’ll continue to live here until we can afford a house in the nineteenth district,” Mai Ya explained. She seed to think of sothing, sighed, and added:
“My husband is also a Beast Tar. If he were here, Nadapeng wouldn’t dare to be so bold.”
Having said this, she suddenly rembered that the Beast Tar who had taken her task was still a student, she coughed to change the subject:
“What would you like to drink? I’ll get it for you.”
Qiao Sang wasn’t shy either and replied, “A glass of water will be fine.”
As Mai Ya turned to get the water, she suddenly noticed she was still being hugged around the legs by her daughter and said softly:
“Go play for a bit, okay? Mommy will get so water for sister and pour you so milk as well.”
The little girl then let go of her grip.
Once Mai Ya had left, the little girl asked crisply:
“Sister, why are you holding a Pet Beast?”
Qiao Sang smiled and said, “It’s soft and comfortable to hold.”
“Yaobao.”
Yaobao proudly raised its head.
“Really? It’s soft? Can I pet it?” the little girl asked cautiously.
“Of course,” Qiao Sang said as she let go, and Yaobao imdiately jumped down, obligingly walking up to the little girl.
The little girl tentatively reached out her small hand to touch it, and her eyes suddenly lit up at the feeling, leading her to stroke it a couple more tis.
When Mai Ya ca back with the water and milk, this was the scene she saw.
She couldn’t help but smile. Just as she was about to say sothing, she saw the previously docile Pet Beast step back, its eyes instantly becoming sharp as it bared its teeth in the direction of the door, showing a vigilant expression.
“Is there sothing outside the door?” Mai Ya asked quickly.
The little girl, very astutely, hid behind her mother.
Qiao Sang didn’t answer but gave a slight nod in the direction of the empty air to her left.
Xiao Xunbao imdiately appeared, floating over to the door, sticking its head out.
Mai Ya was stunned. She hadn’t expected the Beast Tar she had employed to have a Spectral Series Pet Beast accompanying her all the ti.
At that mont, a sharp cry of “Mumu!” ca from the door.
Xiao Xunbao then floated its entire body out the door.
About a dozen seconds later, the door opened under the control of an inexplicable force.
Xiao Xunbao floated in, using Shadow Control to bind a roughly green-bodied Pet Beast with sothing resembling a thicket on its head.
“Mumanster!” Mai Ya exclaid as she saw the bound Pet Beast being brought in.
Qiao Sang: “???”
What on earth?
Was that a quick catch?
Now, if she takes this Pet Beast to a far-off place, would that an her task is complete?
