Chapter 52: Chapter 49 The Taste of Money
“Could that be an investor’s relative?”
The thought was quickly dismissed by everyone.
Investors were usually flush with cash, their relatives wouldn’t likely contract with just a Cotton Caterpillar…
Qiao Sang felt relieved.
Whether it was the first battle or not, this must be Fang Sisi’s and the Cotton Caterpillar’s first official match, and it was a good start that they made it without any issues.
“Fire-Toothed Dog, who do you think will win?” Qiao Sang asked.
The pet beast of contestant number 12 was a Sha Duo mouse, skilled in self-defense and evasion.
And the Cotton Caterpillar, a synonym for weakness, was basically at the bottom of the strength rankings among all entry-level pet beasts until it evolved.
Unless there was an unforeseen event, Fang Sisi had no chance of winning.
Qiao Sang asked Fire-Toothed Dog rely to get it to observe the situation on the field more closely, to develop the ability to judge the level of both sides.
“Ya.”
Fire-Toothed Dog pointed in the direction of Fang Sisi and barked.
Qiao Sang: “…”
Was the Fire-Toothed Dog’s vision really that bad?!
“Why?” Qiao Sang couldn’t help asking.
“Ya Ya.”
Fire-Toothed Dog explained in its slightly hoarse voice.
This person had just complinted it for being handso.
Qiao Sang breathed a sigh of relief.
At least it wasn’t because of poor vision…
“Contestant number 12, Zhang Shuo, is 16 years old and already has one year of beast taming experience, while his opponent, Fang Sisi, only beca a Beast Tar not long ago. Sha Duo, what do you think will be the outco of this match?” the middle-aged comntator with slicked-back hair asked the handso young man next to him.
A typical pet beast competition comntary is divided between a main and a co-comntator.
The main comntator generally has keen eyesight and a fluid tongue, responsible for fervently reporting the live developnts of the match.
The co-comntators are usually guests with a following, invited by the organizers.
They are generally responsible for analyzing strategies and tactics from a professional perspective to help the audience understand the match.
The guest that Bai Xinsai invited this ti was Sha Duo, who recently beca quite popular.
He won over the audience with his handso appearance and never-give-up attitude in the Yuhua Region competition not long ago.
Although he only made it to the top 24, his popularity was even higher than so who were in the top 10.
“I think…”
Before Sha Duo could start sharing his opinion, the match on the field had already ended.
He continued, “It seems I don’t need to say anything.”
Right at the start of the match, the Sha Duo mouse burrowed underground, and the Cotton Caterpillar was simply left bewildered on the spot, getting knocked unconscious by the Sha Duo mouse as it erged from the ground.
Qiao Sang put away his phone he was using to record the match and checked the ti.
21 seconds.
It was not all that surprising…
Fang Sisi returned to her seat with the Cotton Caterpillar, sighing deeply, “I lost so badly.”
Qiao Sang nodded, “It was quite bad.”
Fire-Toothed Dog didn’t speak, but nodded several tis in agreent.
Fang Sisi: “…”
As her friend, shouldn’t she be consoling her?!
“But at this stage, the Cotton Caterpillar naturally doesn’t have an advantage. Once you evolve it into a Baxue Butterfly, the opponent likely won’t stand a chance against you,” Qiao Sang said.
Fang Sisi looked at her plump Cotton Caterpillar and was sowhat consoled.
She hadn’t co to the competition expecting to go far, just to join in the fun and gain so experience.
Fang Sisi quickly adjusted her attitude.
She pointed at the match of group seven and laughed, “Hahaha, that Deep-fur Turtle is so silly, just standing there stupidly getting hit.”
Qiao Sang: “…”
Did she forget that just now the Cotton Caterpillar also remained motionless and was taken care of by the opponent…
There wasn’t much to see in the competition.
Most of those watching in the stands were friends and family of the competitors, and as the number of participants dwindled, so did the audience.
But soon, the spectators who had not gone far upon hearing the buzz returned to their seats one after another.
“My God, it’s a baby Jiao Dragon!”
“Which young master from a big family ca to play?”
“Didn’t you hear the host? His na is Lu You.”
“In Hangkang, besides Lu’s Group, which other Lu family could be so lavish?”
“Isn’t Lu’s Group one of the investors in this competition? Did they invest just for their young master?”
The battle between F-rank Beast Tars didn’t attract them, but a Dragon-type Pet Beast that hadn’t evolved yet drew them all back.
Qiao Sang stared intently at the baby Jiao Dragon on the field.
This was her first ti seeing a Dragon-type Pet Beast in reality.
Those scales…
Those sharp claws…
Those Jiao horns…
Constantly exuding a scent of money…
As expected, the baby Jiao Dragon won the match with absolute superiority.
There’s a reason the Dragon series is recognized by most as the strongest elent.
Whether it’s defense or attack power, they are far superior to ordinary Pet Beasts.
Luckily, they are rare and slow to develop, with long evolution cycles, otherwise, they really wouldn’t leave any room for ordinary Beast Tars to survive.
“Contestant number 67, Lu You, has just achieved an impressive victory, it seems he’s the seed player of this competition,” the comntator praised Lu You.
Qiao Sang agreed with the second half of the sentence but thought the first half was quite exaggerated.
The baby Jiao Dragon, though a Dragon-type Pet Beast, was still a low-level one.
It was clear it hadn’t been cultivated for long, winning in two rounds after a skill showdown, eventually victorious with Dragon Claws, a stronger attack skill.
Compared to previous matches, this could be considered exciting, but not exactly impressive.
Qiao Sang put down her phone and started to watch the video she had just recorded.
If they kept winning, there was a high chance they would beco opponents later.
As a qualified Beast Tar, analyzing competitors and devising tactics was also part of the curriculum.
“Qiao Sang, send
the video you just recorded, I only focused on the match and didn’t record it,” Fang Sisi suddenly said.
“Do you like the baby Jiao Dragon too?” Qiao Sang asked.
She had a reason for asking, considering there had been over thirty matches before, but Fang Sisi had never thought about recording any video.
“What? The baby Jiao Dragon is so ugly, I don’t like it at all. Did you see the Apricot Fungus kind just now? How cute is that, especially the sound it made when it was defeated and fell down, it’s so adorable! Hurry up and give it to , I have to see it again!” Fang Sisi said excitedly.
Qiao Sang: “…”
She forgot Fang Sisi was all about looks…
…
After several more matches, there finally appeared the first F-rank Beast Tar with a mid-level Pet Beast — contestant number 99, Guo Yiqi.
This was a truly overwhelming battle.
With just a flap of its wings, Guo Yiqi’s Poison Butterfly scattered toxic powder that knocked out the opponent’s White Sand Fox.
Qiao Sang noted this down on her mo pad as she watched the recorded video.
“What do you think about the Poison Butterfly?” Fang Sisi asked beside her.
Qiao Sang was taken aback, not expecting Fang Sisi to discuss this with her.
After a mont of thought, she answered seriously, “Fire Elent overcos Bug Series but not Poison Series. Fortunately, the Poison Butterfly’s toxicity isn’t very strong, and the Fire-Toothed Dog can disintegrate its poison powder with high temperatures. But in this match, the Poison Butterfly only used poison powder and didn’t use any other skills. I think if we encounter it, it’s better to strike first and keep the rhythm in our own hands.”
Fang Sisi: “…”
“I wasn’t asking you about that. I was asking what you think about the Poison Butterfly’s appearance.”
Qiao Sang: “…”
