At the Pet Beast Center.
After registering, Qiao Sang and Tang Yi went to different counters to wait.
The layout of the mission hall in the Lower Ten District’s Pet Beast Center was slightly different from others. In addition to consulting staff at the counter to find suitable tasks, one could also directly browse the mission board on the wall to pick a task of interest.
Due to the excessive number of wild pet beasts, hundreds of new missions were posted almost daily.
So tasks that had long gone unclaid would be pinned on the mission board.
Qiao Sang waited for a long ti. Seeing that her turn was still far off, she walked to the mission board to take a look.
[Mission: Drive Away the Leisure Python
Mission Location: No. 102 Tongfu Street
Mission Reward: 10,000 Alliance Coins
Mission Rank: Two-Star]
Qiao Sang looked at a nearby mission sheet that had already yellowed with age. Is this task really that difficult? It was just about driving away a pet beast, yet no one had taken it?
At that mont, a woman in a black long dress, her hair elegantly pinned up, approached Qiao Sang and asked,
“Are you interested in this mission?”
Qiao Sang glanced around to confirm the woman was talking to her before replying, “Not really, I’m just curious why no one has taken it.”
The woman's gaze subtly shifted to Yabao before she asked, “You’re not from around here, are you?”
Qiao Sang nodded.
“Mm.”
The woman withdrew her gaze, not prying further. Instead, she answered, “The missions pinned here are either too difficult, poorly rewarded, or, like this one, have misleading information.”
“This mission has been taken up by several beast tars before, but they all abandoned it as soon as they arrived.”
“Why?” Qiao Sang asked curiously.
The woman shrugged.
“Because it’s not one Leisure Python that needs to be driven away, it’s a whole group of them.”
The difficulty difference between these two scenarios was like night and day… Qiao Sang was shocked and asked,
“If they already know the information is wrong, why don’t they correct it?”
The woman replied indifferently, “There are too many wild pet beasts here and not enough beast tars. We simply don’t have the manpower to verify every single mission in ti. So tasks might take a year before they’re properly reviewed.”
No wonder so many missions go unclaid. Doing work worth 100,000 for only 10,000? Who would want to take that…? Qiao Sang silently complained in her heart.
She continued browsing the mission board for a while.
The woman didn’t leave either, occasionally chatting with her.
Suddenly, the woman asked, “I have a task, would you be interested?”
Not far away, a few beast tars were watching them, chatting with amusent:
“Maiya is trying to recruit soone for that mission again.”
“It’s been almost three months, and she still won’t give up.”
“If Nada Pong hadn’t spoken up, I might’ve helped her.”
“Look at her, she’s even targeting kids now.”
“That girl doesn’t seem to be from our Lower Ten District. I’ve never seen the pet beast in her arms before.”
“Maiya is only looking for people from other districts now.”
“Last month, she found soone from the 16th District, but that guy still backed off because of Nada Pong.”
anwhile, Qiao Sang asked, “What mission?”
“A Mura Monster keeps leaving trash at my doorstep every day. Sotis, it even sneaks inside and causes trouble. I need you to help drive it away.” Maiya said seriously.
Mura Monster, a mid-level Grass-type pet beast… Qiao Sang quickly recalled its details. All those sleepless nights studying weren’t for nothing, she had already learned quite a bit about Chaosu Star’s pet beasts.
“Why don’t you just go to the counter and post the mission?” Qiao Sang asked.
Maiya hesitated for a mont.
“I did, but no one took it right away. I didn’t want to wait. I saw that your pet beast seems to be a Fire-type, which should be effective against a Mura Monster.”
Qiao Sang thought for a mont and declined, “Sorry, this task isn’t quite suitable for .”
For the assessnt, mission difficulty directly affected the score. Driving away a mid-level Grass-type pet beast was clearly too easy, it probably wouldn’t earn her many points.
“Why?” Maiya asked, puzzled.
Because it’s too easy… Qiao Sang answered honestly,
“I’m still a student. I’m here for a school assessnt, so I have specific mission requirents. I can only take missions that at least a D-rank beast tar is allowed to accept.”
Maiya’s eyes lit up. A student!
She had noticed the girl when she first entered. From her deanor to her pet beasts, it was clear she wasn’t from the 25th District.
Young, a beast tar, carrying a pet she didn’t recognize along with a small Steel Falcon, it was almost certain she was a student from the Upper Ten District training here.
Students from the Upper Ten District always had high-ranking beast tars secretly protecting them, ensuring they wouldn't be truly endangered.
Only soone with a strong background wouldn’t be intimidated by Nada Pong!
Maiya took a deep breath and said seriously, “The Pet Beast Center ranked my mission as two-star. Only C-rank and D-rank beast tars can accept it.”
Qiao Sang was montarily stunned. After spending over a month on Chaosu Star, she had learned quite a bit about how things worked here.
The Pet Beast Center categorized missions into five levels, from One-Star (lowest) to Five-Star (highest). Beast tars could only choose tasks within their rank or lower.
For instance, One-Star missions were mainly for E-rank and F-rank tars.
Two-Star missions were for D-rank and C-rank tars.
While D-rank and C-rank tars could take One-Star missions, they weren’t allowed to pick Three-Star missions or higher. This system prevented beast tars from taking on tasks beyond their capability.
But even within these limits, there were always risks, especially on Chaosu Star, where wild pet beasts were everywhere.
Just driving away a mid-level pet beast was classified as a Two-Star mission? Qiao Sang was skeptical.
“Are you sure?”
“Of course!” Maiya pulled out her phone, operated it briefly, and showed Qiao Sang the mission request.
"If you don’t believe , you can ask the staff at the counter.”
Qiao Sang carefully examined the mission details on the screen. It was indeed listed as a Two-Star mission.
But why…?
After a brief mont of thought, she said, “I’ll ask about it, but I’m not promising I’ll take it.”
“That’s fine.” Maiya said with a smile.
"I’m just happy you’re considering it.”
Qiao Sang didn’t respond. Instead, she casually asked,
“By the way, what’s the reward for this task?”
---
Ten minutes later.
At Counter 27, it was finally Qiao Sang’s turn.
She sat down and handed over her ID card and beast tar badge.
The staff mber, accustod to handling hundreds of clients daily, barely looked at her details before asking,
“Are you here to take a mission?”
“Yes.”
“Do you have any specific requirents?”
“The harder, the better.”
The staff mber was montarily surprised. Such a strange request! But she quickly resud her usual work mode, typing on the computer.
Before long, a list of missions appeared on the screen.
Qiao Sang scanned them quickly, none seed particularly difficult.
She hesitated, then asked, “Can I ask why the mission to drive away the Mura Monster is rated Two-Star?”
“Do you know the na of the requester?”
Qiao Sang nodded.
“Maiya.”
“Please wait.”
After about two minutes, the staff mber looked up and said, “This mission has been posted for nine months. Sixteen beast tars have taken it, but all gave up. Due to the long duration and repeated failures, it was upgraded from One-Star to Two-Star.”
Sixteen tars failed? Qiao Sang realized the task wasn’t as simple as it seed.
I might as well take a gamble.
“I’ll take this mission.”
---
anwhile, on the second floor of the Pet Beast Center, in the mission managent departnt…
A phone rang.
A staff mber in a black uniform picked it up.
A clear, precise voice ca through the speaker: “Mission ID 0396268801, Drive Away the Mura Monster. Verified, two major obstacles: human interference and a swarm of wild Scale Moths. Recomnded upgrade to Three-Star.”
“Understood.” The staff mber hung up.
