Expert Rage Baiting
"This thing is way harder to pull than I thought," Kurt grunted as he fitted another lance into the makeshift Ballista and strained his muscles as he pulled.
The thing had lots of tensile strength and was quite hard to pull, especially considering that Osho hadn’t pulled his punches when he tied to the trees quite thoroughly.
He watched from his vantage point as the group engaged the beasts, his watch buzzing as the kills Clyde got registered.
Despite the strain, he couldn’t help but grin as he focused on another alligator.
’This is kinda fun, though.’ He thought as he pulled.
One might question if allowing Kurt to do the shooting was a good idea, but one needs to rember that Osho and Ellie weren’t the only ones who could use the elents of their beasts.
True to Clyde’s abilities, Kurt had the sound Affinity. Granted, he couldn’t do much besides control it on a pretty basic level. However, that didn’t an he couldn’t use it effectively.
As he pulled, he strained his ears and focused on the sounds around him. Everything beca amplified as he concentrated. He paid attention to the speed of the wind as well as the direction it moved. The sounds of the battle below also reached him. He zeroed in on the alligator he’d hit before. It was being protected by other alligators previously, but with the chaos caused by the group, it wasn’t being covered anymore.
As such, Kurt had another opening.
He let the lance fly, and it soared through the air at startling speeds.
Once more, it smashed into the alligator, embedding itself into the creature with a spray of blood.
What’s worse is that each of the lances had their tips covered in the necrosis and acid mix, causing additional damage to the alligator as its blood started to stain the water.
It seed to be effective as a mont later, his bracelet buzzed as he got his share of points for the kill.
Naturally, not all the points went to him as many factors allowed the kill to happen, most of which were not being a result of his actions but the actions of others.
But he didn’t mind. He just wanted to continue his killing!
Osho stared at the big boss alligator as its underlings were getting picked off one by one.
So far, it hadn’t done much besides let out roars towards its underlings and move around a bit, which suited them fine at the mont, but Osho wanted to eventually draw the thing out of the water. While the poison was great, its effects were bound to be limited on the Adept rank creature. Moreover, it was obvious that the thing possessed water magic, and it has been reiterated many tis that being in an environnt where your Affinity is prevalent is always beneficial.
Osho intended to remove as many advantages as possible from the Alligator.
Moreover, he was also keeping an eye on the creature in preparation for when it made a move. As ntioned before, it hadn’t done much besides trying to command its underlings. Sothing that would soon change as they were slowly being whittled down.
The mont ca soon after as he felt a torrent of Mana begin to get sucked towards the Alligator as it opened its mouth, its head facing the agile Blackie.
’Gale!’ Osho yelled through their bond, but the bird was already on it. In one smooth motion, Gale twisted his body to throw Clyde into the air, then he blurred as he once more moved at incredible speeds, and a mont later, sothing fast smashed into the side of the Alligator’s face, throwing its aim off course as a powerful blast of water was unleashed.
The blast parted the swamp as water was thrown in two directions from the power behind the attack. It didn’t stop there as it reached the land and tore through the ground and several trees, leaving a visible scar in the earth before finally stopping.
’That’s an Adept rank, alright.’ Osho thought as Gale smoothly returned to where he had thrown Clyde into the air and effortlessly caught the slightly distraught-looking fennec fox who hadn’t expected to be thrown into the air so suddenly.
The blast had also happened to hit so unlucky Alligators who were in the way, blowing them apart and fortunately registering the kill as Osho’s.
This also enraged the leader as it turned 8ts attention to the bird that had thrown off its aim and caused it to commit friendly fire.
Gale seed wholly unperturbed as he continued to fly around with Clyde, sending down wind blades and supporting the fox as he unleashed powerful sonic attacks. The bird spared a glance at the angry reptile and just snorted, not even seeing it as a threat.
This seed to further enraged the Alligator as it roared and several globes of water floated from the swamp water around it. They churned before highly compressed beams of water fired out, similar to what Hydro had done during the Beast Tide, but noticeably weaker.
Poor Clyde was taken along for a ride as Gale’s figure blurred once more and effortlessly evaded the beams of water that would be able to slice through most common tals with ease.
Despite the speed, there was an obvious lack on urgency in Gale’s movents as he dodged the Alligator.
What’s more, when the salvo ended, Gale looked this thing dead in the eye and had the audacity to do a flip and let out several mocking chirps. He didn’t use any words, but Osho got the gist. He was basically talking about how the Alligatir couldn’t hire him even though he was carrying another beast.
That’s so expert rage baiting right there.
Naturally, the Alligator did not take kindly to this sort of behavior. It let out a powerful bellow and completely ignored everything eyes as it dived below the water, leaving just its head visible as its tail began to propel it forward.
Gale chirped and began to fly towards the shore, dodging ranged attacks with continued ease as he lured the Alligator away from the rest of its congregation.
’Well that was easy.’ Osho thought, surprised that Gale had accomplished their task so easily. Then again, beasts, especially ones at a higher grade, were inherently proud. Said pride seed to trump whatever intelligence they may have achieved as a result of entering a higher rank, causing acts against their pride to be quite effective when it ca to manipulating them.
With their leader being lured away, the congregation had beco even more vulnerable. Well, not that it had been doing much before besides roaring at them to act in certain ways, sothing that had little effect as most of them were having their skin lted off by the water they called ho.
Moreover, with the strangest alligator removed from the equation, Sugil and Blackie no longer needed to be so cautious to avoid its attention.
Spikes erged from the water far more frequently to impale alligators while Blackie made full use of her agility to hop around and inflict deep wounds on the alligators.
Inagi and Irene had not stopped injecting poison into the swamp once, causing its toxicity to rise steadily, and the effects were apparent as the alligators went from having vague burns on their skin to having entire bits of it fall off or rot away as the Necrosis started to take effect.
So alligators tried to protect themselves with magic, but those that did imdiately beca targets of Sugil as they got impaled from the waters below. So also tried to dive down and attack the creature that was doing all this impaling, but they had limited success as Sugik had essentially turtled herself under the water as she no longer moved but instead had a dense barrier of crystal around herself that was covered in spikes. Any alligator that managed to get close had limited success in breaking through the barrier before getting impaled. Sugil’s defensive capabilities were truly astounding.
Also, one most rember that, while not as potent as Gale, Sugil still possessed a bloodline. And while Snakes and Alligators weren’t too closely related, they did still share a similar ancestor.
As such, bloodline suppression was a real factor here as the Alligators moved sluggishly and responded to attacks far slower than they normally would.
As such, while it wasn’t exactly easy, the beasts were having a much better ti dealing with the Alligators compared to if all the aforentioned factors weren’t in place.
Now, back to the chase of the big Alligator.
Gale had led the creature to a suspiciously open area that, by all ans, t the criteria for a boss arena.
The Alligator did not stop its pursuit even after it was led to to the shore, and only slowed down when Gale also stopped flying away.
Seeing this, the Alligator’s Aura surged. A swampy color with a blue undertone spreading out as it aid to suppress the hateful bird.
In return, Gale just shrugged off the attempt at suppression and used wind magic to ease Clyde to the ground so ways away from the Alligator.
Gale’s task was simple. Buy ti for the others to finish up and have them co together to kill the Alligator.
But Gale also had his own desire. Sothing Osho granted when he heard it
Kill the Alligator by himself.
