Chapter 57: The Cold Moon Sword Immortal

The atmosphere outside the Lotus Pavilion turned awkward. Lin Jing no longer had the energy to explain himself.

Witnesses: Tang Qinghan, the City Lord of Snow Moon City.

Evidence: The Ice Soul Gu.

And now, another "brilliant mind" was accusing him of being a demonic cultivator. He felt utterly exhausted.

Considering Divine Pine’s jokes about being a "demonic cultivator" and its teachings to the Pine Leaf Mouse about "demonic arts," Lin Jing figured his current situation was ironic yet fitting. He had almost beco a demonic cultivator himself.

"Detective Gao, stop speculating. I’ll explain everything later. For now, we need to capture the real Gu practitioner behind all this..."

Before Lin Jing could finish, everyone’s attention shifted to the sky.

At so point, a massive bronze ancient sword had appeared, blocking the moonlight as it hovered in the air. Standing atop the sword was a woman dressed in pure white, her cascading hair tied up with a simple jade hairpin.

Under the cold moon, her robes fluttered gently in the wind, giving her the appearance of an immortal untouched by worldly dust. Her gaze, sharp and focused, swept over the endless parasitic Gu spiders infesting Snow Moon City. Then, her lips moved slightly, her words dissipating into the snowy wind.

Without further delay, she reached for the white sword hanging at her waist. The sword humd faintly, emitting a soft green glow.

Hum!

In the next instant, the surrounding air seed to freeze. Thousands of sword lights burst forth from her blade, forming a dazzling array of icy swords that illuminated the heavens.

"Go!" she commanded.

The sword light rained down like a teor shower, piercing the night sky with overwhelming power. Each strike obliterated the spiders on the ground. The Gu insects shrieked and writhed but were ultimately reduced to icy fragnts that scattered into the wind.

In re monts, the cultivators clearing out the Gu insects in Snow Moon City realized the threat had vanished. They gazed upward in awe and disbelief.

Even Gao Sheng was stunned as he stared at the figure on the ancient bronze sword. His expression turned grim. "I’m dood."

As he spoke, the white-robed sword immortal descended gracefully. Her cold voice rang out, "Gao Sheng, you did not pass the Demon-Slaying Bureau’s assessnt, yet you stole a Demon-Slaying token. Do you understand your cri?"

"I’ve been instructed to take you into custody."

"Nooo!" Gao Sheng shouted. His dragon-horned white horse, sensing the ga was up, sighed heavily and trudged off into the blizzard.

"Could you be... the Cold Moon Sword Immortal, Feng Ning?" Tang Qinghan asked cautiously.

"City Lord Tang, I will need a detailed report on the cause of this calamity in Snow Moon City," she said coolly. Tang Qinghan nodded repeatedly.

"Thank you, Sword Immortal, for intervening. Without your help, the city would have suffered imnse losses in this Gu disaster."

"Sister Feng, wait! Don’t arrest —arrest him!" Gao Sheng pointed desperately at Lin Jing. "The Ice Soul Gu was reborn and entered his body!"

Lin Jing, feeling increasingly wronged, raised his hand obediently. "I already said it’s a misunderstanding," he muttered.

His eyes turned to Feng Ning, recognizing her instantly. On the Tianji Pavilion’s Celestial Rankings, Feng Ning, the Cold Moon Sword Immortal, ranked third on the Earth List of the Heaven-Earth-Human rankings. She was a peak Golden Core cultivator and the senior disciple of the Heavenly Sword Gate, the top sword sect in the Ancient Celestial Kingdom.

Moreover, she was a mber of the Demon-Slaying Bureau and had once single-handedly destroyed a demonic cultivator stronghold, slaying a Nascent Soul-stage demonic cultivator. The blood-soaked battlefield had earned her the moniker Blood Moon Sword Immortal.

She was a true prodigy of the cultivation world, standing at its pinnacle. In comparison, Lin Jing, a minor talent of the Beast Taming Sect, was not even in the sa league.

Lin Jing couldn’t fathom why such a legendary figure would co to the barren Great Wasteland Domain. He glanced at Gao Sheng and thought, So that’s why a Qi Refinent-level disciple managed to infiltrate the Demon-Slaying Bureau. He stole an identity and now he’s about to pay for it.

Still, Lin Jing knew that if he didn’t clear his na soon, he might also get arrested.

"I’ll give you a chance to explain," Feng Ning said, her gaze sharp as her sword.

"Thank you, Immortal," Lin Jing said, eting her eyes with a faint smile.

"I’m not trusting you. I just trust him less," Feng Ning replied, glancing disdainfully at Gao Sheng, whose face fell.

"Am I really that unreliable?" he muttered.

"Wise judgnt, Immortal. Allow to introduce myself—I am Lin Jing, a disciple of the Beast Taming Sect. I ca to Snow Moon City to investigate the disappearance of spirit beasts as part of a sect mission," Lin Jing began.

"Upon arrival, I discovered the growth of ‘Feathered Insect Grass’ beneath the snow. As you all know, this poisonous plant thrives in areas teeming with venomous insects."

"My Senior Brother, Ouyang Hao, was previously poisoned while investigating this case, the nature of which stumped even the sect’s experts. This led to suspect a rare Gu insect might be involved. Only a blend of multiple potent toxins could create such an intractable poison."

"To identify the Gu, I used illusion techniques to bait it out. This revealed that the culprit was indeed one of the Gu God Sect’s ten legendary rare Gu—the Ice Soul Gu."

"When I found it, the Ice Soul Gu hadn’t yet fully ford. Its poison had not developed, and it acted purely on instinct. This led to deduce that a demonic practitioner had already prepared a lesser Gu and cultivated a compatible physique, hiding in Snow Moon City to absorb the rare Gu upon its rebirth."

"My Senior Brother’s Primordial Yang Body made him a likely host, and I suspect this person targeted him out of fear that the Gu would choose him instead. However, they couldn’t predict that my Longevity Body, which far surpasses even their Fire Spirit Body, would be more appealing to the Gu."

"And so, as you saw, the Gu chose . I am completely innocent," Lin Jing concluded.

Gao Sheng gaped in astonishnt. "So that’s the truth behind the beast disappearances and your Senior Brother’s poisoning?"

"Was it Hua Qiandao?" Tang Qinghan asked, his expression darkening. "But why would a Fire Spirit Body be suitable for the Ice Soul Gu’s parasitism? Wouldn’t my Ice Spirit Body be a better fit?"

"The Ice Soul Gu’s intense cold nearly froze itself to death during its creation. To counteract this, the Gu God Sect imbued it with an innate preference for yang-rich, heat-intensive environnts to balance its own nature," Feng Ning explained.

After Lin Jing’s detailed explanation, Feng Ning seed convinced. Her icy deanor softened slightly as she studied him with interest.

"Even so, a re Qi Refinent fourth-level cultivator achieving all this—outmaneuvering a demonic practitioner’s years of planning—defies logic. I’m curious how you attracted the rare Gu and remained unhard as its host," Feng Ning remarked.

"Immortal, please don’t take such casual interest in people," Lin Jing replied with a wry smile. "As the future Holy Son of the Beast Taming Sect, I must have so hidden talents, no?"

"He’s right, Sister Feng! This guy is no ordinary disciple. A Qi Refinent cultivator with a Foundation Establishnt mount and Golden Core-grade treasures? If you told he secretly has a Nascent Soul guardian, I’d believe it. That’s the kind of setup I should have!" Gao Sheng declared, spinning yet another theory.
