The desert was way tougher and more unforgiving than Luna and Liora thought. They were always being attacked, no matter it was day or night.
Liora soon crouched down as her claws were digging in the sand and shouted, "Luna, stay close to . These beasts won't give us a second chance."
Luna, who stood behind her, imdiately scanned the beasts and said, "I'm not just going to hide behind you, Liora. I may not have your claws, but I can fight in my own way."
Liora, who glanced at Luna, imdiately turned away as she fought and smirked, "I expect nothing less from you, Luna, so try to survive."
The ground soon trembled and a deafening roar appeared. A pack of desert beasts erged and began to rush toward both girls, as they were now hungry and wanted to test them.
Liora, who saw the beasts, imdiately frowned as she began to flex her claw and also tense her muscle as she was ready to fight. She then said to Liora, "They are here; get ready to fight."
Luna crouched down and grabbed her sharp bone from a previous kill. She also looked at the incoming beast and frowned. "Damn it, other beast from fla and earth elents. We'll have to do this the hard way."
Luna was a tar and tried to ta beasts around here but it was too bad that her talent connected to the moon elent, making it impossible for her to ta any beast with unrelated elents to her.
Liora then imdiately lunged forward with a roar. Her roar was Lunar Roar and it imdiately strengthened herself and also weakened the enemies.
Liora also used her Lunar Claws to kill the nurous desert beasts. She easily swiped her claws against the beasts and she didn't stop even though she was being attacked by the beasts.
anwhile, Luna didn't attack head-on like Liora. She moved strategically and waited for opportunities. She also soon spotted so smaller beasts that broke away from the pack.
She imdiately used the chance and rushed toward it. With her sharp bone, she struck at its legs, forcing it to stumble. She was nimble but still she didn't have the raw strength of Liora's attacks.
Suddenly Liora, while slamming her claw into another beast, began to realize that there was so beast that was approaching Luna. She imdiately shouted, "Luna, watch your left!"
Luna imdiately turned just in ti to see a beast charging at her with its claws. She imdiately defended by crossing her arms and was soon thrown out to the side.
Liora, who saw this, was enraged, and fortunately for her, the night had just arrived, so she imdiately used her skill. "This is where all of you will die. Lunar Blessing!" Liora shouted.
Liora then imdiately beca stronger as her power was imdiately doubled because of her skill that only worked at night.
The beasts who had now sensed the increased power of Liora imdiately hesitated. Luna, who saw them, beca enraged as she used her Lunar Roar again and this ti she imdiately paralyzed them.
Liora then knew that this was the chance for her and imdiately rushed toward them. She used her skill again, the Lunar Claws and made her claws even stronger because of the night and tore the beasts with ease.
Luna, who had just gotten up, was inspired by Liora's ferocity. She imdiately scavenged pieces of bone and hide, crafting crude but effective weapons.
Luna then imdiately rushed toward so small beasts that were also paralyzed and killed them, while shouting toward Liora, "You're not the only one who can adapt, you know."
Liora, who saw Luna killing other beasts, was smirking as she also killed other beasts. "Good. Let's show these creatures what we're made of."
But still, despite their efforts, the desert was rciless. Food and water were scarce, and every battle took its toll.
They drank the blood of the beasts they killed and roasted their at over makeshift fires. Although the taste was bitter, it filled their stomachs.
Each day was also a new battle for them and every day they will be exhausted. The beasts were relentless, and so were they.
But the cost was also high. Death had already beco a common occurrence for them. Luna died more tis than she could count.
Every death was a painful reminder of her weakness. She always revived, gasping for air, and the pain of her last monts was still fresh in her mind.
Liora was also the sa, as she had died even more than Luna, as Liora just charged toward the beasts without thinking of her own safety.
Then, after one particularly brutal death, Luna sat by a dying fire, her hands trembling as she stared at the bloodied sand.
Across from her, Liora also crouched near the fire. She was wiping blood from her claws. Liora could only be silent as she watched the trembling Luna.
Finally, Luna broke the silence and said to Luna, hesitantly, "Liora, after all this ti... after countless deaths... are you still loyal to Master?"
Liora glanced back at Luna when she heard what Luna asked. She was confused as she answered, "What kind of question is that? Of course, I'm loyal to Master."
She then stood and showed her claws to Luna. "He gave a second chance and also gave power."
She then also looked up and continued, "When I lost to that arrogant Kaelix, Master didn't scold or cast aside. He encouraged , reminded of my worth, and then... he evolved ." Enjoy more content from empire
Liora then sat down again and said, "Do you understand now, right? I was nothing but a slave. I only thought that my life would be spent in a cage. Master didn't just free , but he granted a second life."
She then turned her attention to Luna and also asked her the sa question, "Then, what about you, Luna? Don't you feel the sa?"
Luna looked away and a thin, bittersweet smile spread across his lips. "I'd be lying if I said I still felt completely loyal to him."
Liora, who heard it, was really shocked and confused. She then stood up and looked at Luna right in the eyes. "What are you saying? How can you feel that way?"
Luna shook her head as she began to cry. "Don't misunderstand , Liora. It's not that I've turned against him. It's just... I don't feel worthy of him. I'm not useful to him at all."
Luna then showed Liora her thin and scarred hands. "You're strong, Liora. You're his weapon, his shield. But ? I'm just a maid. I can't fight for him or even protect him."
Luna, who could not handle it anymore, began to cry even more as she shouted, "I keep telling myself that I'm loyal, that I'm important to him, but deep down... I feel like I'm just a burden."
Liora, who heard it was also frowning. She then stepped forward and hugged Luna imdiately. Luna was surprised as she began to stop her cry and relax after being hugged.
Liora then looked at Luna and began to smile, "Luna, you are not useless. You're my tar. My strength exists because of you."
Luna imdiately tried to release herself from Liora but she could not, as Liora was just too strong. She then glared at Liora and asked, "What do you an?"
Liora then began to loosen her hug and returned the glare. "Without you, I wouldn't even be here. I am your beast, and you are my tar. Don't ever think you're weak just because you fight differently.""
Luna wanted to open her mouth to protest but Liora silenced her with her claw in her mouth and a shake of her head.
"If Master didn't believe in you, he would have cast you aside. But he didn't. He chose to send both of us here to this brutal world because he has expectations for us." Liora said as she tried to cheer Luna up.
Luna then began to wipe her tears with her hands and soon asked Liora, "You really think so, Liora?"
Liora nodded. "Yes. Master doesn't waste his ti on people who can't et his vision. He sees sothing in you, Luna. Sothing worth investing in."
Luna then began to wipe tears from her eyes completely and began to smile. "Thank you, Liora. I really needed to hear that after surviving in this world."
Liora soon smirked and said, "Now let's focus on surviving this hellhole and becoming stronger for ourselves and for Master."
Luna nodded and Liora also nodded as both of them said simultaneously, "We will survive and grow stronger together."
Luna and Liora then stood up and went to fight again. They were not afraid anymore, as they don't have any doubt. They would fight and face whatever the desert threw at them... together.
