The five intruders stood in a tight circle.
Their eyes tracked every movent in the swirling fog.
The Mist Human stood still, its single glowing eye watching them like a hawk.
The leader clenched his fists. "Activate [Execution Protocol Lock]."
At once, all five of them shimred slightly, their forms fading into a haze.
Their movents grew faster and quieter, their steps leaving no sound on the damp ground.
"Don't hold back."
The Mist Human moved.
It shifted its sword and gun.
The sword lengthened into an axe, and the gun stretched into a Gatling barrel, spinning fast.
"Watch out!" the fourth shouted.
He rolled aside as bullets of compressed mist flew in all directions.
The fifth operative lunged forward, his blades slashing at the Mist Human's legs.
But it jumped high, spinning as it landed.
Its weapon shifted again into a spear.
It thrust forward, the spear tip gleaming like a star in the fog.
The third operative blocked it with crossed blades, sparks flying.
"Damn it," he muttered. "It's faster than before."
The leader gritted his teeth. "Use [Adaptive Kill mory]!"
Their eyes glowed as their systems kicked in.
They recorded the Mist Human's moves, mapping its angles and analyzing the speeds.
The second operative grinned. "I've got its pattern—"
Before he could finish, the Mist Human's spear dissolved into liquid mist.
It then reford it into a shotgun, firing a close-range burst of compressed air.
The second operative flew backward, slamming into a tree with a heavy grunt.
"Ugh—"
The fourth grunted.
"It's changing too fast. Every ti we learn it, it switches."
The leader narrowed his eyes.
"Keep learning. It can't do this forever."
He dashed forward, blades crossing as he aid for the Mist Human's chest.
The Mist Human blocked with its shotgun barrel.
It then shifted instantly, the barrel twisting into a steel knuckle blade.
It punched forward—fast and heavy.
The leader caught the blow on his crossed blades.
But he was pushed back several feet, boots scraping the ground.
The fifth operative jumped in, blades glowing red, and slashed at the Mist Human's arm.
But the beast's arm twisted away, the steel knuckle dissolving back into mist.
"Don't let it reform!" the fourth shouted, lunging in from the side.
They slashed together.
Sparks flew as their blades cut through the mist form only for it to rebuild.
It shifted into a double-edged axe that spun with deadly speed.
"Switch!" the leader yelled, rolling under the axe and slashing upward.
The second operative was back on his feet, rushing in.
"I'll block—"
The Mist Human spun, its axe shifting back into a sword and gun.
It fired a shot at the second operative, but he deflected it with his blade.
"Ha! Learned that move," the second operative taunted.
But the Mist Human's eye glowed bright.
Its sword transford again, this ti into a whip of barbed mist.
It cracked the whip, catching the second operative around the waist, and yanked him hard to the ground.
"Argh—!"
The leader cursed. "Don't let it grab you!"
The third and fourth lunged in, blades striking like lightning.
They hit the Mist Human hard, their [Adaptive Kill mory] helping them dodge its next swing.
But even as they fought, the Mist Human's form blurred and reford.
It was faster and faster.
He shifted his weapons between gun, sword, spear, axe, and shotgun.
He even used hand-to-hand combat, every move flowing like water.
The fifth operative gritted his teeth.
"It's like fighting a hundred different warriors all at once."
The leader's eyes glowed brighter. "Then we fight like a hundred."
"Activate [chanical Mutation Surge]"
Their bodies began to shift.
Limbs split, gears clicked into place, and new arms grew from their sides.
Their torsos expanded, sprouting additional plates and armor.
Sharp claws erged from their legs, giving them extra grip and balance.
"[Silent Dagger Shift]" the fourth shouted.
Knives extended from their new limbs.
Blades appeared along their forearms, knees, and even along their backs.
Every part of their bodies turned into a weapon.
The Mist Human's single eye pulsed as it scanned them.
It shifted again.
Its sword and gun split into a Gatling gun and a massive energy shield.
"Hold positions!" the leader commanded.
The Mist Human fired a barrage of mist bullets.
The second operative spun his new limbs, blocking the bullets with blade strikes.
"Too slow!" he shouted.
His blades sliced through the mist bullets and dispersed them.
The Mist Human didn't pause.
Its weapons shifted instantly.
The gatling gun collapsed and reford into a rocket launcher.
A roar of compressed air echoed as it fired.
The third operative leaped forward, using his new legs to vault high above the explosion.
"Too easy!" he yelled.
He dove down with blades extended.
The Mist Human twisted, its launcher dissolving into mist and reforming into a giant steel hamr.
It swung upward, smashing the third operative back.
"Argh—!"
The fourth operative dashed in, blades whirling around his body like a tornado.
"Go!"
He spun, slashing at the Mist Human's hamr.
tal clashed with mist-forged steel. Sparks flew.
The Mist Human's eye glowed again.
It split into three separate forms.
Each one held a different weapon: a shotgun, a sniper rifle, and a plasma blade.
"Copying our own surge!" the fifth yelled.
The leader grunted. "Then we adapt!"
He and the second operative moved in together.
Their bodies were now bristling with extra arms and blades.
"Left!" the second shouted.
They ducked under the shotgun blast, then swung their new blades in perfect sync.
"Right!" the leader barked.
They pivoted, narrowly avoiding the plasma blade.
They then countered with synchronized strikes from their new arms.
The Mist Human's three forms rged again.
It beca one solid shape with a long energy spear.
It charged forward.
"Now!" the leader yelled.
All five operatives lunged together, every blade glowing.
They slashed from all angles, their [Adaptive Kill mory] reading every motion.
The Mist Human blocked, shifted, and countered.
But every ti it changed weapons, the intruders matched it with new angles and new strikes.
The leader roared. "We can't give it a second to breathe!"
The second operative scread, "Push! Push!"
The Mist Human's spear dissolved again, forming twin blades.
But the intruders' weapons were everywhere now.
Finally, the leader's main blade struck ho, slicing through the Mist Human's shoulder.
The Mist Human shuddered, its eye flickering.
It staggered, its weapons dissolving.
The leader panted, stepping back. "Did we get it?"
The Mist Human's eye dimd, then flickered one last ti, before fading to darkness.
The second operative let out a slow breath. "Finally."
The leader nodded. "Stay sharp. This forest doesn't forgive mistakes."
The five stood there, bodies still shifting slightly from the [chanical Mutation Surge].
They were ready for whatever ca next.
