Chapter 229: Destined Attraction

Arkai stood there, burning with so many different emotions that he couldn’t separate one from another.

What... did she just say...?

The words echoed in his mind, refusing to settle, refusing to make sense. He should have been angry. Any sane man would have been angry at being discussed this way.

But he wasn’t mad.

He was—

Shaful.

That was the word. Shaful. And beneath the sha, lurking in the dark corners where he didn’t want to look—

Aroused.

Shaful because he was aroused.

Why—

Why, when she spoke, did his mind instantly supply images? Cecilia, as his sister, walking through his room in sothing too short, too revealing, to borrow sothing trivial. Cecilia, brushing past him, her scent filling his lungs. Cecilia, pinned against the wall, his body pressed against hers, his hands—

Why was he imagining Cecilia Araceli as his sister and putting his cock inside her?

The thought was obscene. Twisted. Wrong in every way a thought could be wrong.

And yet his body responded anyway.

Cecilia already knew he was here.

Her eyes t his across the frozen cetery, across the suspended snow and the paralyzed girl and the impossible stillness. She had known he was coming. Had probably known from the mont he started running.

Upon her acknowledgnt of his presence, Sienna’s gaze followed. The frozen girl’s eyes widened further as she took in the scene. Her brother, standing at the edge of the cetery, his face full of sha and desire and recognition.

"It seems I didn’t need to record it at all." Cecilia’s voice was calm, satisfied. "You’re already here."

She smiled.

And Arkai knew that she had seen everything. Every flicker of emotion, every shaful thought, every inappropriate, impossible want that had flashed through his mind.

In the real world, Cecilia had a theory about Arkai. About why he could only fall for her, not for others.

Among beastn, there was a famous saying. Passed down through generations, whispered in mating rites and bonding ceremonies.

"One in a million beasts have their destined mate, the one they cannot help but fall in love and lust over, no matter what. But only one in a billion beasts will be able to find their destined one in their lifeti. And once they et, only God can stop their union."

The saying ant that so beasts were born with a mate designed for them by fate itself. But being born with one didn’t guarantee they would et. The world was vast. Lifetis were short.

Destined mates could be born on opposite sides of the world, could live and die without ever crossing paths. Could et at the wrong ti, in the wrong circumstances, and never act on the signs.

The way one simply breathed in their proximity, and the other would imdiately fall.

In a different tiline, Arkai and Cecilia never t. She perished young, that was her assumption. Or perhaps she died by Arzhen’s hand. Or Arkai died in that volcano. Or any of a hundred other scenarios where fate’s design was thwarted by circumstance.

But in this tiline they had t.

And in the matter of mind, heart, and body, Arkai’s attraction to her was instinctual. Primal. It might as well have been programd into his very vessel.

Rationality and conscience could have already gone out of the way.

"Say, Mr. Dawnoro." Cecilia’s voice was gentle, almost curious. "Wouldn’t it turn you on more... if we were... ’siblings’?"

In the real world, this man was her uncle-in-law.

It hadn’t stopped him. Hadn’t stopped her. It had never even properly registered in their minds as wrong from the start.

Not because being his niece-in-law was sohow further from being his sister. Arguably, thirsting over his younger generation, his nephew’s wife, was even worse.

It wasn’t their familial relation that could potentially stop them.

It was Oathran. From one angle and many others.

"Wouldn’t it be even more exciting?"

Arkai couldn’t move.

Couldn’t breathe.

The woman standing before him—who was she?

Was she truly the Cecilia Araceli he thought he knew? The distant top nerd he had academically admired from afar but never gotten close to? The quiet, studious girl who spent her ti in libraries and her breaks on magical initiations?

No.

No.

This woman... was terrifying.

Terrifyingly right.

But when Arkai thought it was over for him and his dignity, when he thought he would have to bite the bullet and double down on the sha, on the arousal, on the sheer impossibility of this woman, Cecilia suddenly giggled.

A sweet, warm sound.

It cut through the tension like sunlight through clouds, unexpected and completely disarming.

She reached into her breast pocket and produced a small vial. A one-use potion bottle. Before Sienna could react, before she could even process what was happening, Cecilia snapped it open and held it beneath the frozen girl’s nose.

Sienna tried to fight it. Her eyes widened, her nostrils flared, her body strained against the telekinetic hold. But the potion was faster. Her struggles slowed, her eyelids drooped, and within monts, she was unconscious, limp and slack in the invisible grip that held her suspended.

Cecilia gently lowered her to the ground.

The mont Sienna’s body touched the snow, the world shifted.

The pigeon fell to the ground slowly in the cradle of her power. The frozen snowflakes resud their fall. The wind stirred the dead branches. The cetery breathed again, ordinary and quiet and alive in the way normal places were alive.

Cecilia straightened, brushing snow from her shoulder.

"I will make sure Professor Lazuardi looks over this incident," she said calmly. "And since you’re here, I won’t give you the recording crystal, alright?" She held up the small orb, letting it catch the light before tucking it away. "It’s my own insurance. In case she tries to do more stupid things."

Arkai watched her, his mind churning through layers of calculation and instinct and sothing else he couldn’t na.

"What... are your plans, actually?" The question ca out warily, each word asured.

Because despite the attraction, this undeniable, overwhelming, primal feeling, this girl was still a mystery. Soone he didn’t truly know. Soone who could as easily be an enemy as anything else.

Holding this kind of information over the Dawnoros made her a liability. A threat. A variable he couldn’t control.

"And what are yours?" Cecilia’s eyebrow arched. "Weren’t you trying to bury it yourself?"

Arkai couldn’t deny it.

This incident was too shaful to ever co to light. Too damaging, too devastating to the Dawnoro na. And worse—far worse if his father found out. If he discovered that his daughter brought in from his second marriage had done this—

The thought alone made his stomach turn.

"What about I help you?"

Cecilia offered.

Huh...?

Why?
