VALENCIA’S POV
I looked around myself helplessly. Though I was almost out of no man’s land, I was still in the danger zone.
My foot ached a bit because of how terribly it got twisted just now.
I wanted to stop too, but stopping here was only like signing my death sentence.
’You can do it, Valencia,’ I told myself before nodding at myself with a newfound strength.
I stood and was about to run again when I heard the clicking of the gun.
No. Don’t stop. This person was just scaring you. I told myself to keep running.
"This is your last chance. If you don’t stop this ti, I will really shoot," The rogue said again, and the next thing I heard was the loud sound of the gun shooting.
Covering my ears, I froze in my place, ready to feel the pain.
However, the pain that I thought I would feel, never ca.
And wait. Why the hell did the shot appear so close to ?
I opened my eyes that I had closed earlier in fear and looked at the muscular build that was standing right in front of .
My eyes widened.
This...
"Go catch them," Shadow ordered before he turned around, and judging from the sll of the gunpowder and the little smoke from his gun, it was clear that the gunshot was his doing.
"Are you okay?"
I could hear Shadow asking , but I was only focused on the gun in his hand.
It was one of the best-classified guns that were only allowed to the alphas.
"Y-yeah, I am fine," I whispered before shifting my gaze ahead to where the rogue who was probably asking to stop was lying dead.
"Thank you," I gulped before finally looking into his eyes.
His gaze. Why was his gaze so intense?
He held my hand and without waiting for his people to return, he started pulling away from the scene, making look around.
I knew this path. He was taking to the lake. But why?
"Mr. Shadow, where are you taking ?" I asked when he didn’t stop even after so distance.
After what felt like an eternity, he finally stopped, and I was forced to stand in front of him.
He looked at with the sa intensity once again, stepping forward, making step back subconsciously.
He stepped forward again, his hazel eyes telling sothing was amiss with this situation.
"What were you doing there?" He asked , and I gulped when my back hit the tree.
He stopped only an inch away from , making my breath hitch when our bodies almost touched.
"I was taking a stroll and ended up on that side. It wasn’t until I reached there did I realize I was in the no man’s area," I said truthfully.
He raised his hand and grabbed my chin, making look into his eyes as he bent to my eye level, forcing to inhale his intoxicating scent.
I flinched back.
I didn’t flinch because it was uncomfortable. I flinched because the way he was looking at was making think about the dream I had half an hour ago in my bathtub.
"Why were you so lost in your thoughts, Miss Valencia that you didn’t even realize where you were going?" He asked before he left my chin, his hand trailing down to my neck.
"Can I go?" I rather asked and he scoffed.
His deep velvety scoff made my fists clenched by my side.
I didn’t like this feeling much. It was almost as if I was prey and he was a predator ready to hunt down and eat as he desired. That was exactly how his eyes were looking at intensely.
"Tilt your head," he said suddenly.
"What?" I furrowed my brows, and he, who was gazing at my neck, shifted his attention to my eyes before licking his bottom lip.
He snuck his left hand around my waist before pulling forward, making gasp as I looked at him wide-eyed.
What was he doing?!
"Tilt your head, kitten," he said, forcing my head to the side.
My eyes closed inadvertently when he road his index finger on my collarbone before scoffing again.
"I wonder what kind of stain this is," he said, and I opened my eyes when I realized what he was talking about.
The black ink stain on my neck!
Mustering all the courage I could, I forced him back.
Shadow stumbled back. If there had been anyone else as powerful as him, they would’ve turned angry, but he was smiling at . The kind of smile that was telling he had figured sothing about , and I didn’t like it.
"You can’t touch a woman like this. I am neither your mate nor your pack mber," I said to him with a glare.
He raised his hands defensively.
"I am sorry, Miss Valencia. Maybe I got a little too carried away," he said.
Though he was apologizing, there was no remorse on his face. He was mocking .
"You are an," I whispered before turning around to leave.
However, before I could take another step, he walked and held my hand again.
"Send her again," he said.
"Hmm?" I looked at him, confused.
"The kitten that only seems to be listening to you. Send her to the pack again. In fact, are you willing to sell her?" Shadow asked, and I stood there frozen in my place.
What did he say?
If I was willing to sell that kitten? Sell myself? This atrocious son of an unmarried man!
’Why are you getting so worked up, Valencia? He is just asking you to sell that cat. Besides, you always hated that cat, didn’t you? How much you wished you could change into a wolf and not a cat. How about selling and sending her away?’ Aurora imdiately chid in, laughing at my miseries.
I gritted my teeth.
’You and I both know the cat can’t be sold. We are not talking about any other person here. That cat is . Do you want to sell myself to the beta of a pack that wants killed? I can’t live my entire life as a cat,’ I said.
However, as soon as I said those words, I realized my slip up, and Aurora grinned, probably already catching it.
’So you are saying you would’ve sold it if you didn’t have a ti limit on being a cat?’ Aurora asked.
I was about to reply to her when Shadow stepped closer to .
"You know, you have this really weird habit of getting lost in your thoughts. For soone that doesn’t have a wolf, it’s quite peculiar," Shadow said before he bent, almost hugging .
"H-hey, what are you doing?" I asked, my heart drumming in my chest as my fists clenched again.
"I miss that kitty. Since you are her owner, you must sll like her, no? I am trying to find the sll and be comforted," he said before pushing back into another tree, his nose rubbing on the side of my neck, making close my eyes.
I didn’t know what it was. But the way he held close, sniffing , it was almost as if we had so kind of connection between us.
"How co your sll is so faint and untraceable, but out of all the scents in the world, it’s your sll that I can’t get out of my head?" Shadow asked and my heart trembled at his choice of words.
Sothing inside reacted, the kind of reaction that was akin to feeling excited and nervous at the sa ti.
I could feel sothing bubbling in my stomach and my heart, which was already pounding in my chest, seed to relax with his choice of words.
"What is your answer about the kitten?" He asked, stepping further closer to and holding even tighter.
"I... I don’t know. She won’t be able to stay without ," I whispered slowly, trying my best not to stagger as his proximity was affecting .
"Is that so? Then do I have to make do with the owner and keep her close first?" He asked , making bite my lower lip.
We were too close. I could feel it the way I was feeling the heat from his body seeping into my clothes, but for one brief second, I wondered what it would feel like if I wasn’t wearing this top. At this point, we were almost hugging each other, drunk in each other’s sll.
And that thought alone was enough to bring out of my thoughts and clear all the haze I was feeling earlier because of his proximity.
"Shadow -" I pushed him away again.
Judging from the shock in his eyes, I could see that he was probably equally shocked about what happened between us just now.
Shaking my head, I turned around and ran the fastest I could. I needed to be away from him imdiately.
