VALENCIA’S POV
It has been a couple of days since the incident with those dead bodies took place, and so far, we have yet to conclude.
The postmortem reports ca just fine, but we still couldn’t shake off the lingering feeling that sothing was wrong. Maverick and I exchanged looks as soon as we read through the report carefully.
"Are you sure that there was nothing suspicious?" Maverick asked.
The doctor before us nodded and explained how he had used his best knowledge and his doctor team to perform the postmortem, and the autopsy report was before us. Nothing could have escaped their notice.
Maverick nodded and dismissed the doctor before moving his hand through the hair.
"Sothing is wrong, Valencia. You can feel it, too, right?" He asked , and I nodded.
I knew why he was feeling like that. His wolf was one of its kind and the most potent beast wolf in the world. The chances that he held special sensory powers that everyone has been neglecting so far just in the na that he is a powerful alpha were more.
"If you want, should I ask so witch to do it and help us?" I asked.
Maverick turned to look at . He knew how much I hated interacting with those superficial ladies who act like they care but haven’t done anything apart from gloating and giving us useless warnings that were practically pointless since the devil was acting just fine against us.
Rather than agreeing to my words, Maverick held my hand and pulled in for a hug before pecking my forehead.
"You don’t need to go through all that trouble. I will think of a way to do things," He said.
I didn’t add further to it and nodded ekly.
He has been swamped these past few days, and while I was in no position to complain because I knew how dire the situation was, I didn’t like everything happening when it was supposed to be our honeymoon ti after the mark.
The idea made clench my fist, and I left the private house.
"Where are you going, Luna?" I saw Lovely walking towards with a bright, hopeful smile.
"I am going out to attend so business. Would you like to tag along?"
The girl’s eyes lit up imdiately, and she jumped into her place, excitent leaking from her body. I was taking her with because she was pretty talented and could put Alpha Maverick and his team at ease. They won’t have to worry about thinking I went out alone.
"Do you know how to drive?" I asked Lovely, but I saw Liam asking the truck to move towards our garage before she could answer.
Curious, I walked to him.
"Has Maverick purchased a new car?" I asked.
"No, Luna, this is the bike that I heard you are fond of," Liam said, and I imdiately smiled.
As soon as the workers pulled it down, I grinned.
It has been such a long ti since I rode my bike.
"Keys," I extended my hand towards Liam, who looked behind . Then, I placed the keys in my hand.
"Are you going sowhere?" Liam asked.
"You are not afraid of sitting on a bike, are you?" I asked Lovely, who shook her head.
I told Liam to tell Maverick I was eting a few human friends in the town if he asked about my whereabouts, and Liam nodded. He said I shouldn’t worry about my safety since the city was now full of werewolf security guards in disguise.
"Let’s go," I said to Lovely before accelerating the bike. I took a deep breath, as the adrenaline rush paired with the nice weather made feel good.
"Luna, I think you should slow down a little," I heard Lovely murmur from behind .
I am sure she was shouting at this point, but due to the speed, her voice was barely a whisper.
I didn’t yield. Instead, I parked before the fighting ring that Aiden owned.
"Is your friend here?" Lovely asked, and I humd.
Walking inside the ring, I greeted Seth and asked them where I could find Aiden. It has been a month since we last talked, and I thought eting and explaining in person was better than dropping a text.
Once I found out he was camping in the tourist area’s woods, I imdiately rode my bike there.
"Would you like to stay here?" I asked, and Lovely was witty enough to understand that I didn’t want anyone to eavesdrop on our conversation.
"Don’t worry, Luna. I will guard the place," She said with a sense of responsibility.
I gave her one last look before turning on my heels to go further into the tourist area.
Though it was a tourist area, people still camped farther apart to enjoy their solitude and nature.
I was more than halfway up and was about to call Aiden to find his exact location as it was a vast area, and I didn’t want to overwhelm myself uselessly, but before I could dial his number, I heard so hushed whispers around .
"What now? Valencia has shifted to the Dark Callisto pack. How are we going to step forward in our plans?" I heard a man talking, and Aiden’s distinctive voice made freeze in my place.
What plans?
I gulped, clenching and unclenching my fists. I wasn’t sure if I could take any betrayal from one man I had thought was my best friend. I licked my bottom lip, keeping my heartbeat steady so I didn’t attract any animals who would ruin my plans.
"I am not sure. I have inford the authorities, too. Since I am not able to et Valencia that much, I don’t think I would be able to complete the task," A female voice ca, and I felt disbelief wash over for the second ti.
Alina?
Why was Alina talking to Aiden like this? Did he know she was a demon’s daughter?
No wait. She wasn’t exactly a demon’s daughter. She was probably a witch. I had this doubt long ago and dropped hints, too.
But Demon or witch, why was she interacting with Aiden like this? Wasn’t he a re human? Could it be that Alina had arrived here with ulterior motives, and all that drama with the witches being behind her was just a facade?
If that was the case, what did she want to achieve?
I rember how Aiden had acted the day he saw Alina for the first ti. He acted like he didn’t like her at all, but after that, in the na of hating her, he had asked about her whereabouts quite a few tis.
Could it be that Alina was using Aiden against ? But why would she do so? I have done nothing but good to her.
Tears pricked my eyes at the possible betrayal, and I licked my bottom lip.
I was here to explain to Aiden how I was in a relationship with our forr professor. He had once hurt , and I forgave him because I thought he had feelings for .
However, everything felt useless now.
After eting Aiden, I was hoping to et Alina to let her know about the change in plans, and — I shook my head.
This wasn’t the first ti I had been betrayed. So what was the big deal about it? A sense of self-mockery hit my chest.
I turned on my heels, ready to leave, when Aurora’s words stopped .
’Why are you running away?’ She asked.
I glared at the wolf, who seldom talked to these days, another thing that was icking .
"I am not running away. Don’t you see what’s going on here?" I asked.
’And are you going to decide everything by yourself? Even if they are the culprits, shouldn’t you confront them? Haven’t you learned your lesson? Confront them and make it clear if they are your enemies rather than running away,’ Aurora said.
Her words made sense. If they were planning against , what were the chances they would not join hands with my enemy to take down? I needed to know if they were my ultimate enemies.
I turned in the direction the duo was and was about to walk ahead when Alina said sothing that made pause.
"You don’t need to shift into that leopard and appear near Valencia to protect her for the ti being. Last ti, you almost got caught by Alpha Maverick. He is her man now. He won’t stop at anything to ensure shapeshifters like you and witches like stay away from her. We must find a different way to protect her," Alina said.
While this corrected my doubt and negative feelings about them being my enemies, and I was glad Aurora stopped , I couldn’t shake off the shock after hearing Aiden was a shapeshifter.
